Visited with friends but not my first visit and I always recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Buda side of the city. Lovely setting, very good menu, excellent staff and service. My friends pronounced everything delicious and freshly prepared including the green tea with...rice. Highly recommended.More

Finding different types of cuisine in large cities has become easier over the years. While I'm a big fan of trying local foods, I still go back to my favorite styles during longer trips. We decided to try the Sushi Sei on my recent trip...to Budapest. The restaurant is located close to the main downtown tourist areas but not necessarily walking distance. The decor is upscale and we were immediately seated. All of the staff were friendly and we didn't have any issues speaking English. We ordered a wide variety of food, starting with some of their fresh oysters (served either French or Japanese style), Miso soup, Spicy Octopus salad, side salad, chawamushi, and having tempura, chirashi (sashimi) and zaru soba as our entrees. They have some dinner sets but other than the chirashi we went full tapas style. Everything came out beautifully presented and everything was good. While we had some minor issues (they brought out Japanese style oysters instead of the French that we ordered), the staff and owners took care of everything immediately and went above and beyond. Oysters - 5 star. Fresh and delicious. Miso - 4 star. Very good Octopus Salad- 3 star. The octopus was a little dry and they mix it with real wasabi which was a nice surprise. Not to my taste though. Side Salad - 4 star. Nice light dressing and fresh Chawamushi - 3 star. Done well (which can be hard to do) Tempura - 4 star. Delicious. Not as crispy as some but very good, sauce was amazing and tasty Chirashi - 4 star. Great variety of fresh seafood Zaru Soba - 5 star. Basic dish but like the tempura the sauce was delicious. Noodles were a little overdone but good. Ambiance - 5 star. Staff - 5 star. Overall I would recommend coming here if you're in the mood for some Japanese food in Budapest.More

We love Japanese food and honestly I would say that Sushi Sei is the best by far in town. The Japanese Chef must definitively make the difference as all is prepare by respecting the high Japanese authentic cuisine standards; tradition, taste, freshness, presentation… Just avoid...the terrasse which is noisy and full of mosquitos in summer!More

3.5 stars- Love coming here with friends to catch up and just have a nice lunch! The food is pleasant but I think the real reason I keep going is for the atmosphere! Also staff is super helpful and friendly!

We come here frequently from 2018 but from our last visit, we think they do not provide the food quality for the price they ask. The same food but the portion becomes smaller, not mention how expensive it is now.... I do not know we...will return or not...More

I've been to a number of Japanese restaurants in Budapest and I can say none of them can be compared to the high standards of Sushi Sei. Food is always excellent, fresh and tasty, done under the supervision of a Japanese chef. Service is also...very good. Also a chance to escape from central Budapest and explore the charming Óbuda area.More

Sushi Sei is one of the few really authentic japanese restaurants in Budapest, with a relatively high price range, but if you want to have the real deal, you need to pay for it. All the dishes served here are super fresh and incredibly tasty....There is a wide range of lunch offers as well as bento options. The only downside, and the reason for my 4 stars is the staff... really not friendly and feels like they hold their noses way too high.... I think for what you get the price is very worth it! The staff needs to get some social skill training... Still I recommend.More

#maki #sashimi #business #lemonade #mizo The waiter was very kind, he helped with choosing the dishes, and explained everything (what sorts of fish had been served, how to eat bentos) The atmosphere was undeniably one of the most unique and remarkable. If you want to...taste real japanese dishes, then it worth visiting this restaurant at least on one occasion.More

We had a wonderful diner there. Trully a delightful and enjoyable moment dedicated to japanese food! You can feel the attention of details on every piece, and you often get more than expected, more texture, more taste, more delicacy... anyway, i think our recommendation is...crystal clear!More

We visited on a Wednesday night with family. The overall experience was pretty good. The fish was fresh, the green tea cheesecake was delicious and they also had a playroom for children which was perfect for our 20 months old baby. The surprise at the...end was also very pleasant. The only thing I would highlight was that our server didn’t smile once and he told us the kitchen closes at 21:15 (when on the phone they said 21:30, and the same thing is written on the door.More

It’s kinda posh, so I feared Sushi Sei might be a case of style over substance - not-uncommon problem among BP restaurants. Yet fears vanished upon arrival or our food: sashimi, nigiri and maki were fresh and by-the-numbers delicious. Salmon and sea bass, interestingly, were...standouts. The agedashi tofu, served in a pool of thick smoky sauce and dusted with fluttering bento petals, was also lovely. Service was on point. Our waiter was friendly, patient and attentive without hovering or attempting to up-sell -- basically, what a server should be. The house also threw in a free birthday desert, complete with sparkling candle. Nice touch. Sushi Sei is kinda pricey, albeit not outrageously so. It might not astonish the hardcore (although it WAS packed with Japanese guests when we visited), however it IS a delicious sushi fix, served with care by pros, right here in Budapest. That’s rare. That is value for money. And that's why we'll be back. Domo arrigato!More

Kept on coming back to this restaurant as it is still one of the best in town. This time I've one of the seasonal menu consisting of Unagi. Really not too bad considering this part of the world! Seriously, if you require pretty authentic japanese...food at a reasonable price in Budapest, this is the one! Fuji is another good one but is way more pricey.More

My Hungarian friends brought us here and told us that because it's out of the way not a lot of tourists go to it. When we arrived we got the best table in the place in a little alcove room. Most of us are vegan...and the waiter was exceptionally helpful about what he could do for us. The presentation of the food is fantastic and the taste and quality was superb. i could not fault anything that I had. it was also reasonably priced in my opinion. This was easily the best meal that I had the whole trip. Well worth making a trip to go and visit it.More
