We visited for the bi-annual “dining city” offer whereby a large number of restaurants offer a limited choice set menu for a low fixed price. We were highly impressed by the food - the kitchen produced 3 excellent courses, with the final one being a chocolate soufflé that was about the best I have had. We did feel a disconnect between the amazing food and the more average service and rather non-descript decor for the restaurant. With some improvements to the latter two, these could act to complement the impressive food. Very enjoyable meal and the sort of restaurant that appears on “hidden gems” listings.

Had trepidation’s when I sat down and looked at the menu but I was extremely pleased with the results. The duck was extremely moist, juicy and tasty. The veggies in a white sauce were delicious and perfect for the duck. Great wine was available and had a great meal. Ambiance not the greatest but service was friendly.

Many restaurants in Budapest appear to be closed on Sunday evenings during our visit, but this bistro was open. After all the tourist traps we had experienced, this address was a true discovery! A small but intimately decorated restaurant, with a particularly efficient and nice waiter, who also turned out to speak good English. Quite rare in Budapest. He also turned out to be very helpful after dinner, in finding the right bus stop further away. The menu consists of mostly local Hungarian specialties. The bone marrow dish is rarely seen on a menu but here it was maybe one of the best dishes of our dinner. Simple but refined. Very nice to be able to eat such a classic dish. Then goose liver on toast - no foie gras, thankfully - followed by a delicious, well-seasoned steak tartare. All dishes are generously supplied with delicious fresh salad and vegetables. My companion had a sirloin steak, well seasoned and roasted, under a mountain of fried potatoes and crispy onions. Very traditional, but very tasty. The menu also lists some delicious Hungarian wines. This address is highly recommended for honest Hungarian cuisine at a very affordable price.

I am working in Budapest, and after a hard days work I wondered through the West shopping centre and along the back streets. I came across a lovely looking Bistro and thought I would have an evening meal. As in Budapest the only thing for me is the Goulash (Or Irish stew) as my Nana called it. Any how in I went and had the stew it was not the best but as I have been in Budapest for 6 months I've had my fair share of Goulash. I had a pint with my soup as I was cold and wet £20.00 Euros I was charged £20, now I realise the cost of food has gone up and they must be less busy as it is the second week in Jan A little advice from the Jolly Irish Backpacker ( the last time I was robbed the Fu%%er had a knife)

Looking for anywhere to sit and eat. Stumbled across it and sat outside. Lovely waiters. We are from western USA, so used to pretty good beef. This was one of the best hamburgers I have ever had.

Nice surroundings. A little strange serving food. But in the best possible way. We waited a little longer for the food, but it was definitely worth the wait.

We were staying in Budapest for a weekend and our best food experience was in Kanaan. The place is quite small, but oh my god, the food is amazing!

It was two blocks away from our AIRBNB apartment in a great area of Budapest...I just found it by typing in Restaurants nearby on google maps. We just arrived without reservation..on a quiet night..Stunning food...try the Sword Fish main course ! oh and the Tartare starter! Reasonable prices compared to the UK. Friendly staff...the waitress (who had worked in the UK and on Cruise liners ...you know who you are) was really nice to us ( English Couple 26th Feb ) and very professional...a real asset to the Restaurant ..which I believe is family owned since 1989. I would eat here again, highly recommend !

We went here for our last Night in Budapest. That was the best meal we got the whole week. Goulash soup as a strater was brilliant, so much taste! Main cours we selected loin, with fries and pepper saus. The meat almoust melting in the mouth, and the peppersause was very god. AS dessert we eat cocolate suffle, with ice cream, and its taste was really good. Exelent service and they speak English good. Worth a visit!

Arrived in Budapest late on a rainy night, and Kanaan was a warm, friendly eatery. Wonderful chicken paprikash and goulash soup. Zoltan was a great server. Would go back and recommend to friends.

Ate there twice during a recent Budapest visit. Found the place via TripAdvisor. Both times the food was delicious and the service very friendly. The prices are moderate. Highly recommended.

What a total delight to be recommended this restaurant on a recent stay in Budapest. We’ve been to & fro since May filming - this has by far been our favourite. Local, friendly, atmospheric, good food, nice staff - reminded me of secret NYC bars- thanks for a great time - see you soon.
