Decent bistro style restaurant with plenty of open spaces. Good, authentic hungarian food with speedy service. Reasonable prices, large portions.
The place it was freezed in time, back in '90 and not very clean. The food portions were big, good taste, but not something special as we expected based on reviews and on the paid price.
Staff that barely speaks english, very unprofessional, uninterested and unhelpful. We sat at a table on the terrace, waiter noticed us when we walked in and greeted us. We proceeded to wait for 20 minutes after which nobody showed up to service us, since we...are understanding people we reminded the waiter again of our presec to which he noded and said he is on the way. We proceeded to wait another 20 minutes and since nobody came up to our table we simply packed and leaved. It was a rush hour but the restaurant is not that big, there was enough waiters, and waiting 40+ minutes to simply get the "hello, here is the menu, do you want something to drink?" is unacceptable....More
Like others who have been to this bistro we were done with touring the Castle area, and hungry, and looking for a place nearby that wasn’t too expensive. This more than did the trick. The food was very tasty and although we went for local...fare everything looked good. The staff were excellent and spoke fluent English. It isn’t in the most prepossessing part of town but is very close to a tram stop and has got a lovely friendly feel to it as every good bistro should. Thoroughly recommended.More
One of the best in the city. I recommend trying the traditional dishes, not the burgers. Good service Best staff Medium to low prices
Great place. We very tired and in the way to Buda Castle went inside the first bistro in our way. The food was tasty and good quality. Service was excellent. I can recommend this bistro to everyone.
We stumbled upon it accidentally, because the place we intended to go to was closed, and we loved it: great food and service! I had a chicken papricacs and my husband a gulash. We totally recommend!
The food was awful! We had a traditional dish, that they call “chicken goulas with Hungarian noodles”- the chicken meat was old, soggy and horrible. We tried the beef burger and that was extremely salty- you could not taste anything else except a salty taste....The garlic-mayo dip was old too.More
The food was very good and the waiters was very nice. the food came also very quickly. we will definitely be back here one day.
Small place, good food, good service, but a group of people ruined it all. It is ok to have chattering and laughter after all, but they were screaming and shouting all evening. They should have booked a venue for themselves, because they were clearly having...a party, making everybody else feel that we are in a club, not in a restaurant.More
I live close so I used to go there a lot when it was an honest place with nice atmosphere, food and good prices. I think they had an owner-change or sg, because now the whole place looks like an Italian-american-hungarian traditional-modern confusion, they raised...the prices and the menu so now they don't have those typical hungarian meals anymore, only the 'pimped' touristic versions of them which looks fancier but tastes worse. There are some very nice waiters still like in the old days but not all of them. As a Hungarian I should say that to find a polite waiter in the entire country is more difficult than finding coriander (which is also hard). So overall I don't want to be mean but this place is only good if you are very hungry and don't have any serious expectations. Don't bring your girlfriend here on a date, you will have a sad one.More
We had a very lovely dinner at Mákosguba. We found out about this place via Tripadvisor so it's only fair that I leave a review. What I loved about this place is that it's not one of those huge restaurants but it almost felt cosy....The waiter was very kind. We shared a starter and both had a main course and we were very happy with all the food. The portions are big if not huge so maybe avoid lunch if you go there for dinner. The location is just perfect too, a short distance from the Buda castle area or the Chain Bridge.More
Unfortunately the very first item on the menu - the one we went there for - was out. :( I had chicken paprikash instead but it was really average. Also I have to add that in the next table every single dish they got, looked...way better than my chicken paprikash so I was simply unlucky. I will return and order something else and hopefully re-evaluate my decision in the near future.More
This was recommended by our accommodation. We went on spec and were lucky to get a table. The waiter spoke excellent English and was very attentive. The salmon and pork dishes were very good.
