We had the five course degustation at Csalogány 26 on a midweek night in July. This is one of Budapest's hidden gems - offering top quality food and wine for prices a significant step down from the top rated Budapest fine dining establishments. Everything was superbly cooked and presented, and portions were enough to fill us up without being excessive.... More

As other reviewers have commented, please do not be put off by the location or outside of this restaurant. If you are staying on the Buda side of the river this is a 10 minute walk from the castle area and definitely worth making the effort. We had one of the 5 course menus with matching wines. The food was... More

Second time here, and just as good as last time! The place looks simple and in a quiet street in Buda, but nothing simple about the food and the service! Had the 8 course menu with wine pairing - it was wonderful, but the desserts can be a little more exciting. Good wine pairing!

Quiet, and posh with very attentive waiters. I had the 8 course degustation, which had a very pleasing selection of tastes. I'm not a big eater, but I was a bit envious of the slightly larger portions that were served with the 5 course meal. I needed a snack before bedtime.

We enjoyed the 5 course degustation, which was plentiful without leaving us bloated. The wine degustation gave us a chance to try some excellent local wines from small vineyards, that we could never find on our own, and having just completed a tour of Bordeaux I would say the wines presented were far superior race to most of the French... First off the food is really good, nice service, although a bit pushy at times. Many sites talk about the 3 course lunch that comes in around nine bucks. But when you go for lunch they only bring you a menu for a 5 course lunch that costs three times as much. Everything was cooked perfectly. The rabbit had a... More

Absolutely loved this place. A little off the beaten track in Buda - you'll need a taxi to take you there but it's worth it. Basic decor - almost like being in someone's house, very good service. Quiet place even when it's full. We had the 5 course tasting menu which is really 7 courses if you count the amuse... More

Close your eyes and sense different taste that perfectly complements each other, with a contrast of soft and crunchy! Try their hungarian wines, they are delicious. This week I am visiting Budapest again, so I can't wait to visit this restaurant again. Hopefully the food is as good as last time.

The restaurant offers 3 menu choices for dinner-two alternative 5 course taster menus or an 8 course taster menu reflecting a combination of the other two. The menu can be had with or without wine(10,000 HUF or 13, 000 HUF with wine). Our party of 2 opted for the 5 course taster menu and one person had menu A while... More

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighborhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
