We had an eye on visiting this as the terrace was set in a real sun trap. We went to visit as the lockdown for Corona was announced. They were closing as we walked in, but were so lovely. served us hot drinks that we ordered and then gave us complimentary desserts as they needed to clear their fridges. They were so helpful, chatty and friendly. Do pay them a visit.

The food is exceptional with very little diversity but it is the best I have tasted in Budapest. The service was really good with friendly staff and courses arriving just in time. Although portions may seem small they are more than enough if you go through a 2 course meal. We did not try the wine but there is a huge selection of hungarian wines and some champagne choices most of which you can order by glass or bottle. The cocktails were amazing - the best Hugo I ever tasted. You could go there just to enjoy a cocktail and spend time with someone. The location is great with an averrage sized terrace away from the main alley and pretty big interior with an industrial design and open kitchen where you can see the chefss doing their magic. It is a bit on the pricey side for Budapest but it is worth every penny. They also have a weekly special between 12-15 with 10€ for a 3 course meal. I did not like the fact that I was charged for the bread and butter we did not order. They were really cheap and great tasting but Id rather leave a tip. All in all it is a great experience with spectacular food in a quiet place and amazing cocktails. Will come back every time I am in Budapest!

I think it’s the after affects of Covid that restaurant standards have really slipped whilst prices have rocketed. But…this place is fantastic. Everything felt authentic and thoughtful. A restaurant where real people are thinking daily about how they work, the food they cook and how it’s served. All the dishes were interesting and well done. And the prices are reasonable. Set in a rustic setting with an open kitchen. In an area full of tourist restaurants it’s got to be worth a visit.

We recently visited on the 7-6-22 I ordered a Bombay Safire mixed with Lemonade. The waiter argued that it was two separate drinks and they don’t believe in mixers, although another waiter took the Bombay Safire back off me when I said I wanted sprite instead. The waiter still continued to charge me for the drinks, although none of us had touched it and believes that, because it touched our table, it should be charged for. Will not be coming back, as being over charged for drinks that we physically did not touch.. would never recommend to anyone. After paying our bill, overheard another couple with the same waiter being scammed out of more money because they was told a drink would be mixed, and arrived unmixed and taken back by a waiter. Avoid, unless you wish to be scammed.

Dear Guest! First of all, we are very sorry for the inconvenience you have encountered. We sincerely regret that the time you spent at Monk’s Bistrot was not perfect for you. As can be seen from most of the posts and comments our waiters and our entire staff do everything they can to make our guests feel impeccable and this is all reflected in the quality of service and guest reviews. In the case of long drinks (not cocktails), our waiters always pour the spirit of the requested brand (in this case Bombay Sapphire Gin) at the guest's table and take out the ordered soft drink separately to make sure that she received the brand and in the quantity in which she ordered. This is the custom of a quality restaurant. Of course, if the guest wishes it, our waiters mix it, but we tend to leave this to the taste of our guests, in what proportion they would like to mix their long drinks. Given that the waiter served the right drink you’ve ordered - so there was no quality defect – just because you didn’t feel like to drink it, I as the restaurant manager, do not think it is legitimate not to charge for it. Despite the fact that we are extremely sorry that your experience was not perfect during the time you have spent at Monk’ s Bistrot, my colleague acted right. Best regards. Is was a nice day in spring and I noticed the terrace from a block away and decided to take a look. It was a perfect spot to have lunch. The catfish was delicious and looked amazing. The fresh mint tea was great, and one of the few restaurants where they give you value for money (so a large pot instead of just a small glass). The chocolate dessert was nice too. Don’t forget to use the toilet. I wish I had a door like theirs.

We went here for dinner based on another article. So glad we did. Ate on side patio under awning. Sophisticated but not stuffy atmosphere. International menu with ample portions elegantly presented on black plates. Service was great. Not rushed but there when needed. Menu changes quarterly. We had two starters, bone marrow with roasted cauliflower, and duck liver flan with figs, onion compote, gnocchi, and roast veges. Entres were whole bream and duck breast. Both with interesting accompaniments. Black forest cake of dark chocolate and sour cherries. Two drinks each. Total bill including 15% tip and tax was less than $90! Great time to be in Europe!

Amazing atmosphere, great setting and very welcoming people. The beef tartare is simply divine, and would ideally be paired with a local Cabernet (heavy on the nose, but worth it). For the main, the cod is just amazing! Beautifully prepared and exquisitely balanced with a nice Hungarian sparkling wine (yes, I was surprised as well).

The restaurant is modern but cosy, with a fireplace and open kitchen. Service is friendly and efficient, the menu is in English and the staff do speak English very well. The food was very tasty, with traditional, local ingredients, the wine list extensive and not only Hungarian. Would definitely return.

We had wonderful service and delicious food. The price was great and the food was amazing but the service was the best part. Our waiter made excellent food and wine recommendations so just ask what they like and go with it - you will not regret it!

Nice, convenient place with its own spirit and atmosphere. Very short menu, which is good thing as chef can master every item on menu to the limit and here, he definitelly does….. wuality and serving is just a pice of art …. Service is at very high level, great experience Prices are fairly set, maybe rather at lower side considering quality , service and overall experience

The meal was ok. Service was awful. From the way they were taking orders, bringing food (meat from the plate fell out) and waiter almost took it with hand. Then grabbed the fork and moved it back. Did not offer to replace it. Changed the wine glass and did not offer anything extra. At the end when we asked to pay separately, he printed out the bill and said they cant split the bill and we still cant pay separately. For a "fancy" restaurant the service was extremely poor and we felt unwelcomed! In addition: They brought me tea, and the lemon and holder fell on the table. The waiter cursed and just left leaving everything as it was

Monk’s. Visiting for work from the US and was walking around looking for something cozy and good. If you are in Budapest for a few days this should be on your list. The Chef takes extra special care of each meal he prepares. The waitress gave us recommendations for small plates to main course as well as drinks and desserts. The food was as great as promised. My coworkers and I had a nice dinner.

We chose to book a table here for our wedding anniversary night out and we were certainly not disappointed. We both had the mangalitza pork for our main dish which was really good - it was great to have the opportunity to try this style of pork. I had the crepe suzette for dessert which was great but very sweet (accompanied by a fabulous dessert wine from 2002 that was nearly as expensive as my main course but worth it!) and my husband had the Gerbaud dessert which he liked but was a little sweet for him as he doesn't normally go for desserts. The service was excellent and the ambience of the restaurant superb. It really was the perfect place for us to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary.

The duck and the butter fish main courses were delicious to eat and beautifully presented. We both enjoyed the soup entrees - the paprika with smoked trout was warm, smoky and perfectly spiced. Wine suggestions were excellent for the meal and service was attentive and friendly. We were delighted to find Monk’s Bistrot and highly recommend it.

On our second trip to Budapest we felt compelled to return to Monks Bistrot. Their 3-course lunch menu is not just great value for money, but top quality Hungarian food. The place itself is elegantly modern, the service is attentive and not fussy. The chefs are visible from the tables and the place is spotlessly clean. We happily recommend this place to anyone.
