This is the worst restraint in the world it takes 1 hour for a peace of steak and it’s the same for a drink I don’t recommend it and food isn’t worth it

We googled this restaurant and saw some pretty great reviews and decided to give it a shot. We are so thankful that we did. We ended up being early for our reservation and the owner/host joyfully greeted us and seated us right away. The menu...looked a bit daunting as there were many items that we were unsure of and I am pescatarian and so wanted to be very careful not to order a dish with any meat, however the host took such great care and time to explain the entire menu that we were excited and comfortable by the time we ordered. The same with the wine which we were able to taste before committing. It was great and also Organic. When the dishes came they were extraordinary. Taste, texture, aroma all were over the top. The men got the Goulash soup which they proclaim to be the best they have ever had. They had two menus, one a special Harry Potter menu and all came with different types of potions or a sorcerers stone and a story. We had the Cod which was amazing and the dish was placed on another which had dried ice underneath and they poured a potion, water, over it and the dish began to smoke. It was a fun and incredible experience and meal. They also made from scratch an infused oil which had some great heat to it but the taste was most incredible. We will try to duplicate it at home but I am sure it will not be like the original. It’s even hard to explain how great this taste was. How the Chef worked with herbs and spices was like none we have ever encountered and it was well beyond our expectations. The room itself is cozy but not crowded and you are surrounded by all kinds of books as if you were eating in a library. If we were there longer than two days we would have returned, if we come back to Budapest we will definitely visit again and again. A culinary delight and we felt so welcome! Needless to say this place is a “must see”. The best place to dine in Budapest. Di and DonMore

Restaurant had been recommended by a number of people on a Facebook group and did not disappoint. We had Hunger Games menu, not read the book but if it’s as good as the food then I should. I opted for the wine pairing too and...it was perfect. The presentation, explanations, ingredients and cooking were all on point. The ribs and rabbit were my favourite if you were to make me choose. Our waiter was excellent, he was so knowledgable and had a great and fun personality too.More

How can you go wrong with a setting that looks like a library?! The selections were very good. Buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes and watermelon was tasty. Potato casserole with sour cream and pickled onion and beef sausage hit the spot. Topped off with cottage cheese...dumplings with gooseberry. Yummy. Also, nice wine selection.More

Highly reccomended place in Budapest. Foods are excellent and a lovely, cozy place. You will feel like you are having dinner in a sweet library decorated with candles. All the foods we tasted were amazing. You should try gulash and coffee mousse dessert for sure.

An absolute pleasure to the pallet. The goulash was an amazing starter followed by a delectable venison shank. Dessert was a coffee flavored mousse with coffee flavored cotton candy to mimic steaming cup of coffee. A must do place on your visit to Budapest!

I highly recommend KönyvBár & Restaurant. We have been there multiple times and it never disappoints. The service is excellent. The waiters make sure to answer all your questions, tell the story of the dishes or recommend a good wine. The restaurant has good vibes...and a nice, cozy atmosphere. Visited this week as a family of 5 and had the best experience. 3 of us had the tasting menu and two of the children had the main menu. The waiter was really attentive, talked us through the food and wine at each course; he...was great with the kids and their met all their wishes. The food was exceptional; the flavours, creativity and links to the book were amazing. My eldest, who is 11, described the whole experience as sensational! We loved how each dish was presented, with a description of each. I also loved trying some new Hungarian wines. I cannot recommend the experience enough. Thank you so much to all the talented chefs and wonderful front of house staff at KonyvBar.- we truly loved our evening. If only we could come again!More

This was our second visit to this amazing restaurant in the Jewish Quarter and was one of our "must-do" activities for our trip to Budapest. We love the concept of designing a menu around a book and this time it was Harry Potter and the...Cursed Child (OK, it's a play rather than a book but when the food is this good, who cares?). The courses tell the story and some of the presentation was truly innovative and added to the overall experience. Wine pairing provided for the most part was excellent too and I think this time around the overall meal was even better than our previous (Lord of the Rings) visit several years ago. We have sampled more expensive tasting menus (including in Budapest) that in our opinion are not as good as this and I believe it offers exceptional value for money.More
