We had past the boat on our sight seeing in the city and with good reviews decided to go here for my b'day meal. Not mega busy but it was a Monday evening but still enough people eating for it to have some atmosphere. All the food dishes that we ordered (only 2 starters) 4 mains and one desert were all very well presented (see my pictures of the ones loaded) and the food was very tasty. Although not the cheapest place in Budapest (we knew this) it felt like good value for the quality of the food and service that we received. menu's attached so you can judge for yourself. nice to sit on the Danube having a lovely evening meal with great scenery.

First of all let me start by saying we understand that service is different in different countries but this was lacking by European standards. The boat is beautiful and they were very nice about changing a reservation for us. The guys at the front desk were nice and helpful and the two or three people that waited on us were pleasant enough but simply not very present. We each had one cocktail or glass of wine to start and intended on having more but we never saw our waiter again until after we were done with our food. They were willing to make some accommodation for one in our group that had some dietary restrictions which was nice. The taste of the food itself was good but not outstanding for the price. My risotto was a tad undercooked but tasty flavor wise. I enjoyed my wine as well just wish I could have gotten another. The golden chocolate dessert sphere was a fun amusement but a bit basic in taste. One in our group got water buffalo which basically tasted like beef stew and another had what was supposed to be the rack of moufflon but we aren't sure if it really was as the description did not mention there being any waffle/dumpling but the dish came with what were essentially Belgian waffles on it. Would have asked the server but decided just to eat it since we never saw him for a long time. It was pretty good. Probably should have realized it was more of a place for the view but had hoped for a little more.

Atmosphere: great place, nicely decorated, great classic music. Reservation is advisable. Service: great, staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Food: just loved the food: the Hungarian soup is amazing, the main course cod fish is extremely tasty, one of the best i ever had. The dessert is very tasty and amazingly served: they pour the hot caramel over a chocolate ball.

The Spoon offers an excellent view because of its location on the Danube but the food was ok; expensive when compared to other touristy fine dining restaurants that provides better service. We dined at the Spoon our first night in Budapest because it came highly recommended and the reviews were positive but having dined at other fine dining restaurants, what we ate at the Spoon was not worth the money and the lack of service that was automatically included in our bill (15%) was a rip off. For better food (not on a boat or Danube) in central tourist areas, we paid half the price and had better service. To define service, we ordered a bottle of wine, a large bottle of water and each had an appetizer, main course and dessert. We had to ask our server to fill our wine and water since the bottle was not placed at our table. When the appetizer was done, our server delivered our main course but failed to provide us with cutleries. When we caught the attention of a server, she asked "What is it" to which we asked, can we have some cutleries. After our mains were finished and removed, and have ordered desserts, the waiter followed up with us 15 minutes later to confirm our dessert order. The Spoon did not deserve the automatic 15% service fee for overpriced food and the mediocre service and I would encourage any tourist to dine elsewhere.

We spent New Year’s Eve there. The food was absolutely horrible. The vegetarian options a joke and the waiters would not even give us extra bread after paying 190 euro each for horrible vegetarian food that was tasteless and cheap. I would never recommend this place.

The restaurant on the boat looked appealing and elegant turned out, it was just an illusion. The salad I ordered was unwashed (as the dirty root was still attached to the lettuce) The lemonade that on the menu was labelled as 0,5l came in a 0,3l glass, when we noticed the waitress about this no efforts were made to rectify this mistake. When the bill came, the waitress announced that there is a 12% service fee added to the bill (which was not obviously specified on the menu). As if this was not enough disappointment, I got really sick after eating there (this was the only food I had that day) and spent the night with a stomach ache. I can definitely not recommend this restaurant due to it’s poor quality and dishonesty.

Visited here today so looking forward to this as the reviews were so good. My husband and I had two delicious starters. Then on to the main course I ordered duck which I was told would come medium. The first attempt came very slightly pink mainly overdone so I sent it back. The second attempt came completely brown it obviously had been redone in microwave as part of the meal I had tried was still there. Sent this back and after 50 minute wait during which time my husband had eaten his main meal mine arrived. Yes it was good but our whole experience was ruined. When bill came there was no reduction due to their problems when discussed with the manager they said well you did eat the duck and we had to waste one !!! Expensive meal completely ruin don’t go is all I can say

I attended an official dinner at Spoon. It was a set menu activity but quite enjoyable. The Restaurant is on a large boat on Danube promenade, situated right across the road at 1 minute walk from Intercontinental Budapest where I was staying. Its convenient if you are staying in District 5. We were served Quinoa starter followed by Meat main Course and Baklava with Ice cream Dessert. Everything was above average. The staff attitude at the restaurant is positive too but the real winner is the view of Danube which is magical. As I didn't order Al a Carte, I cannot comment how extensive their menu is or about the price but I can say its a place worth giving a shot, at least for the view.

Stepping into this place feels like you’re heading back to LA in the 1980s. The decor is shiny and black, the host greets you like an old school MC, the food is decidedly old school (but delicious). Prices are high for Budapest but not terribly expensive by American standards. The servers are gruff, not very happy to be there, which would be the only negative. The food has definitely improved over the years. And it’s a very celebratory/romantic place.

The restaurant has 2 sides, on the right it is a more luxurious place with a wonderful piano live music and on the left side more family friendly and more quiet. We went in the right side restaurant and from all the 4 main dishes we ordered i could not decide which one was best, all of them where very good and special in their own way. I recomend this restaurant for people which are interested in the view and food, very good experience.

Visited here with my daughter as part of her birthday celebrations. Made to feel very special, given a window table with beautiful views, the pianist played happy birthday and staff brought out for her a sparkly lit up dessert. The pianist was superb as were all of the staff. Lovely evening, thank you.

Have been lucky to experience amazing restaurants around the world. This is definitely up there as a whole experience. My mother and I were unsure as we walked up (as it was raining and dark, no fault of spoon) we opened the door and we were instantly greeted by the friendly hostess (Sonia?Selena? Sonika?) who showed us to our table, discussed where we were from and made us feel very comfortable! Within seconds of us sitting down our waiter Balint was there with the menus, friendliness, amazing english, and opinions/ advice on the menu. We ordered cocktails which were very good and priced for the presentation and drink itself (if compared to London and other major cities) we were served warm bread which was gorgeous and our food was excellent, it was very obvious it had been made especially for us, it was fresh, perfect temperature and beautifully cooked. The dessert was the gift that just kept giving it was exquisite. Balint was attentive, friendly and ensured we had everything we needed all whilst overlooking the Danube. The hostess was very friendly when leaving. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. Service impeccable. Food exquisite. Views and atmosphere unmatched. Very reasonably priced for what you are getting, would go again

This spot is awesome. Every course we ate was delicious, the venue is on a boat, great styling, and a piano player adds to the fabulous atmosphere. The staff were all attentive and warm, and we were really impressed with both the cocktails and the Hungarian wine list. I see that the rating for Spoon is “expensive”, and well that may be true locally, I think many tourists (especially from the UK) will find it quite affordable. Highly recommend.

Very frustrated with our dinner, made a reservation and arrived on time. All was fine, was seated and loved the space. We were upstairs and the place is set up well for everyone to have a great view of the Danube and all the water traffic plus the Buda Castle across the way. It took 5 minutes for a staff person to finally come up to us and ask what we wanted to drink. We actually placed our entire order at that point. All staff had appeared busy so we were not upset at this point. Our Beet salad arrived pretty quickly, was still waiting for our drinks to arrive which they finally did. The beet salad was wonderful, it was portioned well and had been prepared very nicely. Then came 45 minutes of waiting for our main entree’s. We saw 3 tables who all ordered after us be served including a table of 8. Very frustrating to say the least. No one came up and asked if we wanted another drink, had to ask 1 server for more bread when she was walking buy with the basket. Finally got our servers attention and she said she didn’t know why our food wasn’t up yet. It arrived maybe 12-15 minutes after I asked about it. We ordered 2 chicken dishes, was fine, it had the mushroom risotto and had nice flavor. The 2nd dish had less flavor, the chicken paprikish dish. The pasta served with it was overly cheesy and just not that nice. The best part was the cucumber salad that was served with it. Just very disappointed in the experience. Pricing was fair, understaffed most likely but not one person checking on us for over 30 minutes till I flag our server down is not acceptable. I would not go back and would tell others to stop here for a drink but not trust them to put out a nice meal.

Dear Michael, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We sincerely apologize for the frustrating experience you had during your dinner. It’s disappointing to hear that our service fell short of your expectations, especially with the long wait for your main courses and the lack of attentive service. This is certainly not the standard we strive for. We’re glad that you enjoyed the beet salad and the view, but we regret that the rest of your meal didn’t meet your expectations. We booked a table of 2 on the afternoon excited to try this place as it had so many good reviews, upon arriving on the evening the lady on the desk couldn’t find our reservation but was quick to sort this and advise our table would be ready shortly. We were seated on the upper deck and quickly greeted by our waiter and given menus, we placed our order and drinks came within a couple of minutes. 30 minutes later our starter had still not arrived but tables who had arrived after us had ordered and been given their food, we decided to be patient and waited another 10 minutes when more tables arrived and had their food brought out I called the waiter over to ask what was going on. He came over and asked if we’d had our starters which we explained we hadn’t and he just walked away presumably to check, another 10 minutes went by and we still hasn’t received our starters almost an hour after ordering! No one came over to explain what was going on or apologise. We made the decision to leave after nearly an hour of waiting, as we got up to leave they were bringing over our starters which we explained we no longer wanted as we were going elsewhere for food. The waiter was quite rude and didn’t once apologise for the wait, we explained we just wanted to pay for our drinks and go. He finally gave us the bill with an attitude which included a service charge! I politely asked for this to be taken off as we were unhappy with the service to which he replied “it’s compulsory”. I explained I wouldn’t be paying for anything other than the drinks we had and handed over the money for drinks only. I completely appreciate that things go wrong and orders sometimes get lost but to not once have an apology for the mishap and be treated almost like an inconvenience is unacceptable, which was such a shame when we were looking forward to the meal.
