Not far from our hotel, this restaurant did not pay for any outside mines. The world made us open the door. No reservations, no room. Possible in 40 minutes. We're getting a beep. 40 minutes later, we take a seat in pretty armchairs surrounded by a modern decor but inspired by the 70s (orange color), the clientele is young and nice, the music very pleasant: in short we feel comfortable to taste traditional dishes including Goulash (excellent), very good meat and wines very good and all at very reasonable prices. The service is professional and the dishes arrive quickly. My best restaurant in Budapest (out of 4).

I turned up at Menza without a reservation but it seemed to be highly recommended. The restaurant is towards one end of a square which has a lot of different eateries, all of which seemed to be very popular. They all had outdoor tables which were very busy. On arriving at Menza I was very quickly attended to and was advised that I might have to wait around 30 minutes for a table for one without a reservation. I was happy with that and I was able to wait inside with a drink from the bar. After around 20 minutes I was shown to a table and given a menu which offered a wide variety of meals to suit all tastes. I opted for the grilled half chicken with potatoes au gratin and it was absolutely superb. Rich in flavour and cooked to perfection. The Bosodi Hungarian beer was a perfect accompaniment. And the whole meal and drink came in at around £15 equivalent, which I considered an absolute bargain! The indoor seating area was very comfortable and the staff will easily accommodate single visitors such as myself alongside larger parties, whilst keeping a convivial atmosphere; and there is also plenty of table seating in the outside area. I would certainly recommend Menza Restaurant to anyone visiting Budapest and looking for a great evening meal, although I would suggest larger parties should definitely book ahead.

25 years that we go there every year and the quality of the dishes and service remains at the rendezvous with an excellent home brewed beer. Awards have not exploded after COVID as in many establishments in BUDAPEST where wines are now more expensive than in France!!!!

I rated 5 because it has met expectations. It is a VIP-style restaurant, but with a little more quality and more variety on the menu. It has typical Hungarian dishes and international cuisine. Very good service and the best thing is that the prices are contained for what is Budapest. In my case we were two people: 2 beers, pork focaccia starter, a gulásh and a plate of gnocci plus two coffees 40€.

We found Menza walking down Liszt Ferenc Square after the Hungarian Grand Prix, despite being worried we wouldn’t be able to get a table due to not having a reservation we were given the option of being put on a waiting list and gladly agreed.
While waiting we had a cocktail each; a sour cherry margarita and a strawberry spritz. We enjoyed both drinks and were seated at our table just as we were finishing up.
Our waiter was attentive and helped us in our wine selection which turned out very good. We ordered the seafood spaghetti marinara and the duck breast with black truffle mushroom risotto, and the Hungarian sponge cake for dessert.
I really enjoyed the duck breast and the risotto, my girlfriend found the seafood tasty and fresh but found the marinara a sauce a bit watery and underwhelming. We were both apprehensive about the sponge cake after we initially tried it but it grew on us and we ended up quite enjoying it.
Overall we found the food at Menza tasty and affordable and the service to be of a high quality.

This is the second time in 2 days that I have come for lunch here, it is not far from my hotel in the Oktogon district.
Yesterday I ate a lamb dish. It was delicious, today a goulash, very good also I am in Budapest for a week for the world athletics championships. I think I'll come back to it tomorrow. For information, for a dish, 1 glass of white, a glass of rose, both delicious, and a coffee, I paid 8,366 Forint, or €22.31, 12% service included. I was alone. I have always been very well received.

We entered this restaurant without a reservation where all the tables were still occupied at almost 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
We wanted a table for 2 people and we were made to wait 10 minutes, which is largely acceptable.
The setting is 70s style. The music is pleasant although a little loud, perhaps to cover the ambient hubbub.
The dishes are generally good, but if we look more closely, I remain a little reserved about the quality of the chicken (probably not a free-range chicken...) and also a downside about the cooking of the green beans which are just blanched, and even if the trend is to cook vegetables less to preserve vitamins and other nutrients, for the moment they are more than al dente...
The service was quick by attentive and efficient staff.

My wife and I had the unfortunate experience of dining at Menza this evening. Despite its popularity among tourists and its convenient location near the Hungarian Academy of Music, where we were attending a concert, our visit left much to be desired. The meal itself was decent, with average table service and acceptable yet unremarkable food at reasonable prices.
However, our evening took a disappointing turn right from the start, thanks to the receptionist, Hajnal. She greeted us with an obnoxious and unhelpful attitude, seemingly content with being unwelcoming. Despite showing her our booking confirmation, she initially couldn't locate our reservation until my wife spotted our name on her list. Throughout our meal, we observed her rudeness towards other guests, creating a negative atmosphere.
While the restaurant was bustling and had queues, the unfriendly reception left us with a lasting impression of unwelcome hospitality. It's disheartening when successful establishments become complacent and neglect the importance of genuine customer service. In a competitive market, overlooking the significance of guest satisfaction can lead to failure. It's our hope that Menza recognizes the impact of their staff's behavior on the overall dining experience and takes steps to improve in the future.

Having recently visited Menza for the first time I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a great meal in lovely surroundings at a reasonable price whilst visiting Budapest.
The restaurant was busy at both lunchtime and evening so booking in advance may be advisable but as we were eating late afternoon/early evening we were fortunate to get a table for 4 after waiting at the bar for 15 minutes. However the restaurant was fully booked for later in the evening.
All the food was fantastic with the creamy garlic soup topped with a langos a great appetiser and the beefsteak topped with crispy onion rings a popular main course.
The staff were fantastic and the atmosphere was nice and relaxing with great background music even though the restaurant was busy.
Take a walk to this restaurant during your visit and you won’t be disappointed

No greeting from couldn't care less waiter who didn't move from other side of covered pavement room. Shouted over to us 'go inside'. Another apathetic waiter showed us to a table and brought over 2 menus, Chef choice & A La Carte.
Two beers ordered which came after short delay. Even longer delay for food order, but nice not to be hassled. 2 starters, goulash soup for me and hummus & pitta salad for my wife. Mains, my wife as a main and a special chose another starter and special menu pork knuckle for myself. About ten mins or so mains put on table, correct for my wife but dish served to me was Gnocchi.when I said 'not what I ordered' waiter replies 'yes it was'!
I said no it was on special menu, he replied 'we don't do knucle' Again I said it is on menu! You didn't make any comment about
it being off. He went for yet another chap who said ' yes, this is what you orderedʻ! Again I said 'no it wasn't. Made to feel like a liar and being pushed to accept Gnocchi, which I wouldn't eat. I informed her that i would walk out if knuckle wasnt served to me. Result was a short stand off until I pointed out that I had been given a steak knife for a pasta dish!
She quickly relented and said ' you go and pay nothing' which we did.
No apologies. Nothing! We went elsewhere and had knuckle at another nearby resturaunt which was lovely moist and tender.

Attracted by the usual enthusiastic reviews, we hesitantly book.
Upon arrival they make us sit down and with a rag pulled out from the counter, they clean... the table, leaving it greasy and throwing the menu on it. Which packs down. We ask to dry the table. They do it roughly with a paper napkin and everything is fine with them. We thus understand that the staff has been hired ad cazzum and that the ABC is totally missing. But we, contemptuous of the danger, move forward! I order a goulash soup and a prawn salad. Half an hour later they arrive. In goulash only potatoes, carrots, a little barley and traces of meat. Austrian soup Felix gives him beer. The salad has 4 prawns in a sea of peppers, onion, and lettuce wood. Let's point this out. Obviously not even a crease.
On the latter, wanting to mediate a possible total butt-fucking, we went with the basics. Snitzel and potatoes and salmon and vegetables. I don't want to sound negative so I say they were decent.
Overall the experience was not positive and don't believe the tall tales that the owner will make up in response. I give you some advice, avoid this Hospital Mind, too many tourists and too much business have caused the quality of the place to plummet and try Ruben Etterem in Magyar Utca 12-14. You will be surprised.
Personal opinion of course!

I visited this restaurant with my family for dinner on October 3rd, following recommendations from others. The atmosphere was pleasant, but from the moment we were greeted by one of the hosts, I felt rushed, as if they were eager for us to leave. It wasn’t a welcoming start.
It took a while for the waiter to arrive, and when they finally did, we ordered some drinks as aperitifs to enjoy a relaxed pre-dinner moment. Unfortunately, everything – both the drinks and the meal – was brought out at the same time, which made the experience feel hurried and somewhat stressful.
The food was decent, but nothing extraordinary. While I wouldn’t say it was a bad experience, it certainly wasn’t one I would repeat. When I go out for dinner with family, I want to unwind and enjoy my time, not feel like I’m being rushed to finish as quickly as possible.

As soon as we entered they told us that they would make us sit at a table after about forty minutes of waiting as there were no tables available inside. After waiting for the necessary time they made us sit at the table which was free since our entrance (it was visible from the outside through the windows). The place had a cozy and modern atmosphere. The dishes we ordered were very good (despite not being traditional Hungarian cuisine) and the service quite quick.

We had lunch at Menza Restaurant during our visit to Budapest, and it was a fantastic experience. My son ordered the Homemade Menza Beef Burger served with smoked cheese, and he loved it. The portion was generous, so much so that he couldn’t quite finish it! My wife had the Traditional Hungarian beef stew with homemade spaetzle, and she absolutely raved about it. I chose the Greek seasoning pulled lamb with flatbread, skordalia, and tzatziki with mint, which was incredibly flavourful and satisfying.
The waiter was friendly, attentive, and happy to engage with all of us, including my 9-year-old son. As it was our first meal in Hungary, he went out of his way to help us feel at ease. The menu was very accessible, with both English translations and numbered items. If you're not feeling adventurous about pronouncing Hungarian dishes, you can simply order by number.
Although there was construction work happening outside the restaurant, it didn’t detract from the experience. The place was still bustling with people, which speaks to its popularity. Since we hadn’t booked a table, we sat in the outdoor seating area, but with the heater on, we were perfectly comfortable. If you’d prefer to sit indoors, I’d recommend booking a table in advance, which you can easily do on their website.

Surprisingly good... Something new to try and enjoy. My partner and I loved it. We went without a reservation, we waited about a quarter of an hour at the bar with good Aperol, then at the table.... the menu scanned because you have the option of seeing the dishes, plus the waiters are friendly and some even speak Spanish. Very good service quality and price.
