Tradition and evolution at Gundel Restaurant Gundel restaurant’s executive chef, Zsolt Litauszki believes in upholding tradition while also breathing new life into Gundel. In creating the new menu for the 125-year-old restaurant, Chef Litauszki’s goal was to retain the traditional offerings while also keeping up with twenty-first century trends. Since the beginning, the menu has featured customer favorites, such as the classic goose liver and Gundel crepe, and international guests’ most-requested goulash soup and fisherman’s soup. You can still find all of these among the menu offerings as well as other classic dishes from the past. Chef Litauszki’s cuisine is characterized by freshness and

When it comes to Budapest "Gundel" is a name known by many - it is indeed one of the classiest restaurants. (Presidents, Prime Ministers, Movie Stars, etc. were dining in this place over the years ). Still we were not here for dinning, we were...there for a specialty - the "Gundel" pancakes. The story of this pancakes is interesting - originali it had a different name however after 1949 it had to be renamed Gundel and became famous around the world, once you get to the Gundel restaurant you will learn the story at full so I ain't gonna detail it here. Bottom line is we were there for the "Gundel" pancakes and we were not disappointed - perfection in every aspect. Of course this was before the whole C-19 thing - so we sat inside, social distancing was not a term in use and the world as we know it was different ... Overall the service was perfect, the waiter polite (kind of stunned at first when seeing 3 metalheads sitting down and ordering pancakes ...). Prices - well what can I say? this is not a neighborhood restaurant! This is a high end, famous all over the world and definitely one of the best restaurants I've ever been. Still when you have the whole experience taken in account, for me it was worth it and for sure I will be back - one day when we get back to normal. So, when you are in Budapest and you want a special restaurant, go and check out the Gundel, it is worth it.More

This restaurant was recommended by several locals, with good reason. It is one of the best restaurants in town. Star-level food, great surroundings, private little orchestra playing, wonderful service. What do you want more? It is not cheap, but if you limit yourself to one...main dish, it will be only a bit more expensive then the average tourist trap in Budapest.More

The good: the band was very good and was a special and unique touch, the goulash soup and the bread were wonderful. The atmosphere was beautiful. Service overall was good. Pike perch was way too salty served on top of salty risotto. They charged 12.5%...service charge. I don’t know what for because they also expect tips as well. I hope they use that service charge for the band. My husband was at Gundel many years ago and was going through a exuberant trip down memory lane. As for me, I’m glad I had the experience. But if I was to go there again, I would just get the soup and bread and enjoy the band.More

Always lunch at Gundel's when returning to Budapest. Skilled cooking, modern touch and respect for the tradtional Hungarian kitchen, and caring of the Gundel memory. I like how they mix Classic French style with the Hungarian flavours. Excellent service by head sommelier Joseph and great...knowledge in Hungarian wines. I hade a lovely well seasoned carrot soupe, perfect fish with spinach risotto and a classic choklad cake. Yes, I will come back next time in Hungary,More

As always in Budapest, we have to got to this magnificent restaurant. The food was excellent, as always, but they did not have enough staff. We had to wait for the sommelier and also for the wine. It was very clear to us that the...restaurant is struggling. It is really a shame. Gundel should be a national landmark!More

This restaurant is in a fantastic location and feels very 1930ish with fabulous decor and high ceilings . It felt like a bit of bygone luxury and looking by the list of guests who have eat there you can see why it has a fine...reputation in Budapest. The food was excellent. we started with the Amouse Bouche which was a form of panna cotta with a flavorsome biscuit. For starters I had goulash soup and partner had chicken noodle soup, both were very good and packed with flavour. mains I had Mangalista ( wild boar) which was truly outstanding and a taste never to forget. partner had steak Rossini which was good but we both felt a bit overpriced. The restaurant has musicians playing who come and play at your table , they know a huge variety of songs and play to a very high standard , reminded us of the cafes in St Marks square Venice. And so to my moan about this place . I ordered a bottle of Bock Merlot and when it came to the table the manager ( sure it wasn't a sommelier) poured some of the wine into a separate glass and started to tell me how Hungarians taste wine. This was a ridiculous bit of unnecessary theater as i am an expert on red wine and have sampled hundreds of bottles from all over the world and in a large number of Michelin starred restaurants. Why I was picked out for this charade I have no idea , maybe because I wasn't wearing a suit as I didn't see anybody else in the restaurant enduring this experience. Annoying as its not professional , was not required and of course he was drinking a quarter of a glass of wine I had paid for . A very annoying experience but decided not to make a scene in the restaurant as everything else was excellent. So despite this service blip a very good meal in a fantastic restaurant , still giving it 5 stars .... but they so nearly lost one !More
