We were in Europe for a multi-day tour and were fortunate to get a recommendation from a friend to go to Baraka. Of all the restaurants we went to during our travels - this was by far our favorite meal. The food was creative and...outstanding without being pretentious. Truly amazing thank you!More

If you are in Budapest and are planning to have one fine dinner, reserve a table at Baraka. The restaurant is located in a very nice area of town, close to the main attractions. The service is remarkable, but the stars are for the food...of course. The chef put a great deal of imagination to prepare and present the dishes. The whole experience is one in a lifetime.More

All the plates are curated with elegance and attention to the details, while extremely tasty and innovative in the ingredients mix! Superb! The sommelier as...well is very attentive and able to guide you in the best tasting experience. Worth the visit and I will come back for sure next time I'm in Budapest!More

Myself, my wife and son ate here on Friday 15th February and all three of us were highly delighted. Its not cheap but then, the food and wine paired were amazing and service was second to none. Seven courses were eaten and enjoyed with wonderful...drinks to match and the four hours we spent in Baraka flew past and considering all this the evening was actually good value. If and when we visit Budapest again, Baraka will be part of our visit again for sure.More

My girlfriend and I had the Vegetarian Tasting Menu and Wine Pairing for Valentine's Day. The entire experience was excellent. Staff friendly and attentive, food and drinks very good. The theatre of it all was a treat, from the gin and tonic's being prepared by...the table from the gin trolley, to the small stool for my girlfriend's handbag to sit on, to the creative and entertaining ways the food was presented and delivered (on another table we saw a sauce/gravy being served from a small garden watering can!). The food itself was very good, tasty, interesting and different. It's rare to find vegetarian food so well catered for in a fine dining establishment, but this could not have been better. Highly recommended. Thank you!More

The 2019 edition of Lonely Planet Budapest guide states: "If you only eat in one fine-dining establishment in Budapest, make it Baraka." How very wrong this assertion is! To start with, the initial reception and dining area ambience have all the wrong signals: dimly-lit ambience,...strictly black-and-white decors (but the white wallpaper danglings were soiled), and the constant hum of background music - the counter-measures to a decent fine dining restaurant. We opted for the 5-course menu as we were not very keen on the goat cheese included in the 7-course menu. Then came the serious flaws. The first course was a "duck foie gras, plum, ume, mirabelle" - but the dish presented was a foie gras pate! (This is Budapest - every one knows the difference between foie gras and foie gras pate!) The second course was a "pork belly, five spice, leek, daikon" - anyone with a taste and knowledge of Cantonese food knows this is not supposed to be on a fine dining restaurant's menu as "Tung Bor meat" is simply peasant food. The "Omaha beef short rib" curiously tasted more like pork and had little to praise about. The two final courses of desserts of "mirabelle" (again!) and "honey almond", likewise, failed to impress. Yet the worse was the "wine pairing", strongly advised when ordering the tasting menu. The tastes of the wines (4 in total) made one feel that the price fetched could include all 4 bottles rather 4 glasses. Had we not been to "Borkonyha Winekitchen" a dew days earlier, we might have been mistaken that only below par Hungarian wines offered at restaurants. The "Furmint" and "Chardonnay" offered were poor examples of the varieties, short on aspects of acidity, freshness, texture and finish. The "Bikaver" was not from Eger, but from Szekszard, a strange choice but inferior quality indeed. The wine waiter seemed not to understand what we were asking but rather recited from a script, which he repeated every time, literally word by word, with the presentation to the table next to us. The bad thing was that the wines did not seem to match the food, and vice versa. All in all, the present "Baraka" seemed not to live up to expectation. On the night we visited, there were only 3 tables of two persons each, and no local customer was there (another omnious sign!) Perhaps, with the change in its location (previously on the Andrassy utca) there could have been also a change in their management and chef. However, if you are into "dimly-lit grand monochrome surroundings" with a "constant hum of indiscreet music", plus "robotic services" coupled with "indifferent food and wine", this is the place for you.More
