This was recommended us by our host. He said it was an authentic Hungarian restaurant..we booked in advance so glad we did as it is a popular place with locals which is a good sign. Both had salads for starters, then Beef Goulash followed by strudel..shared a bottle of wine..It came to the equivalent of £55. Service was good didn't feel rushed despite them turning folk away. Food was excellent..

This restaurant offers true cosiness in a traditional old fashioned setting. The staff are friendly and welcoming and their service is quick and impecabble. The food is truly delicous, I ordered Beef Goulash with potato croquettes. They are fluffy inside and golden on the outside. We also tried "Makos Guba" a bread pudding with heated milk and poppy seeds, another must have real winter comfort food! We were very impressed and would strongly recommend Cafe Kor to anyone visiting Budapest.

My wife and I had an excellent lunch at Cafe Kor during the Christmas markets. This relatively small restaurant was very full, so I would recommend making reservations. I had an outstanding first course which was a mixed salad with hot sliced of marinated duck breast on top. The duck was perfectly cooked with a slightly sweet sauce. I had veal paprikas four my main course and it was very well done. Since it was Thanksgiving Day in the US, my wife had the turkey breast which had a turkey gravy and mashed potatoes. Not the best turkey we have had - the plate had a very beige look. I had dumplings with plum sauce for dessert which was delicious. FOr being very full, the service was very good.

We went here based on all the good reviews however our food didn't taste of a lot.. Duck had been overcooked and the sauce hardly had any flavour. We felt quite watched the whole time there was about 4 waiters standing on the floor at all times which meant we didn't really feel like we could relax. Be aware that you can't pay with creditcard unless you have got an American Express!

Have been here before in 2008. As it was back then, still is a place only for the ones that can appreciate old values, old style, old looks. Food is traditionally excellent, the place is tradiitional in looks - not like, actually - from chairs to waiters.
Where can you find anymore places like this one and not been fake ?

I chose to eat at Café Kör because I read it was a local favorite and served authentic Hungarian dishes. I heard the restaurant is small, and indeed it is. Its modest front is almost easy to pass by. Nevertheless, shortly before 7:00 PM, two of us were seated without reservations.
Although the printed menu looked good, to me, the specials on the board looked better. I had mushroom soup as a starter and Hungarian beef goulash with croquettes as the main. The mushroom soup was a hearty mix of mushroom caps, vegetables, and what tasted like chicken spaetzle. I had assumed the soup would be cream-based, so I was pleasantly surprised by this combination of flavors.
The goulash was excellent, and the first time I’ve had truly Hungarian goulash. The beef was tender and spiced nicely, as were the croquettes.
I read a review that said Café Kör requires reservations and is cash only. Neither is true. At least on the night I ate there, all walk-in couples and singles were seated. Larger parties, however, appeared to need a reservation. I paid in cash, but the server said I could have used a credit card.
It’s a bustling little restaurant, filled with lively conversation. It you are looking for authenic Hungarian food, it’s the place to go.

We stumbled across through google maps and as it was nearby decided to try it for ourselves. The cafe was busy and had a good feel when you walked through the door and we were lucky to get a table. We looked at what everyone else was eating and I have to say we were spoilt for choice and that was without seeing the menu. I had mixed roasted vegetables which was a huge plateful and delicious. For my main I had the goulash from the specials board. I was not disappointed! It was a generous portion; the meat just melted in your mouth, it was rich in flavour and the mashed noodles were a good accompaniment. There was no room for desserts which looked very tempting. We spoke with other guests all of whom said great things about their meal.
The staff were really warm and friendly and engaged in conversation. Really good food and excellent value for money.

We were a party of 6 with a reservation and anxious to have an authentic Hungarian dining experience. We were greeted warmly at the front when we entered and that was pretty much the highlight. We all ordered something different and everyone was disappointed with dried out chicken, undercooked heavy batter fish, bland stew and so on. Food was all served at the same time, some hot some cold. Our server never returned to ask if we needed anything or for us to order more wine and water. Maybe an off night but definitely a Budapest disappointment.

Everything was perfect about this visit to Cafe Kor. I was seated promptly, the drink and then food arrived in good order and I enjoyed a generous portion of two roasted ducks legs with mashed potatoes and cabbage. The food was delicious and I ordered my usual soft drink. With tip the entire bill came to just over $13. What a great deal for a classic Hungarian dish in a very nice setting. While I didn’t order dessert, the desserts coming out to the next table looked delicious, especially the sour cherry pie and ploscke.

Reservations went fine by phone, they kept out seats open even though we were running late. The goulash with croquettes was so good we ordered 2nd plates for some extra to share. Real good Hungarian cuisines.
Only dissapointment were the desserts, we had the chesnut, walnut pastry and the spongecake but honestly we all didn’t like any of ‘m.
Order more appetizers, goulash and sone good wine and you’re good to go!

We have gone to Cafe Kor off and on for 20+ years , but the last 2 visits were disappointing. In our opinion it is was overpriced for value - the portioning of the higher priced goulash porkolt was disappointing and the dumplings were tasteless, the duck was dry and skimpy, and the salads were lacking. I think we counted the grand total of 1.5 cherry tomatoes allowed atop. What happened to the other half we wondered?
The pricey side orders of cucumber salad and cabbage were delivered in a small metal cup as if they were portions of ketchup or mustard. These are staple parts of the Hungarian meal with relatively low cost to make. They should rank higher than simple condiments.
This Cafe was always a great place for locals and foreigners to enjoy good Hungarian food and value. We know it can it do much better.

I had this on my list to visit as it had such good reviews and managed to get in on our last night in Budapest. We didn’t have a reservation but there were a handful of empty tables, so we were seated straight away. It’s only a very small and homely restaurant so we were lucky. The staff were lovely and friendly, and the food was second to none. I had a fillet steak for the equivalent of £12 which was a bargain, it was huge and cooked to perfection. My partner had the salmon which was also delicious and there was a good choice on the menu. We were so impressed and happy that we’d found this place and can’t recommend enough.

You could easily walk past this restaurant if you weren’t specifically looking for it as it’s very unassuming with just a few tables outside nothing fancy but these were already reserved. We hadn’t booked so we were fortunate to get a table inside the restaurant as the place was ram packed with diners as it was early evening.
The atmosphere was buzzing and the plates of food coming out looked amazing with very generous portions. As we had eaten a largish lunch we both opted for the sliced duck salad which was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the meal so much we went again the following lunch time again the restaurant was very busy. We both had the asparagus soup to start which was fabulous followed by the beef stroganoff which was out of this world. Should we ever return to Budapest we would certainly eat at this restaurant most days as this was the best food we had eaten during our trip.

Decent, well cooked local dishes. While portions are good the food is nothing special so I think it is a quite overpriced restaurant for what you get.
The staff was kind, eager and helpful. It is a good option if you are around.

Our tenth trip to Budapest and our tenth trip to this lovely, traditional Hungarian restaurant. Some tables have been removed in order to maintain social distancing so, although we visited on a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was busy.
The service was as good as ever and the food was superb.
I had tomato soup for a starter and sliced duck breast with green pasta for my meal. Both were extremely tasty. The Kekfrancos red wine was a perfect accompaniment.
We will be back!
