Super friendly local and smart waiters very helpful. The prices were great, in 3 we paid about 13 euros each (including soft drinks and blanket) and we were very satisfied. The food was delicious, we tried the typical gulash, and the other 2 soups on the menu, chicken paprika with typical Hungarian dumplings and a vegetable “ragù” with polenta, all really good!!!!

Nice, characteristic, trattoria-style place, near the central market of Budapest.
Friendly and helpful staff.
We went for dinner and had two starters including the typical goulash and the Hungarian savory pancake (hortobagyi palacsinta), and two main courses: the duck legs and the chicken with beaten eggs. Generous portions and very low price for what we ate.
We liked everything, in particular we recommend the duck which is accompanied by a really good potato and cabbage pie.
We recommend booking.

A typical place with antique decoration which gives a friendly family atmosphere
Delicious goulash, well-made chicken dish with paprika, plate of ratatouille vegetables and polenta that have flavor. It is very generously served and good value for money.
Welcoming and professional staff, they are not young people without experience and it feels good

Disclaimer here...my family lives in Budapest so I feel I know Hungarian cooking. I really wanted to add more paprika to everything, as well and no Hungarian salads? Just sour cabbage salad? We had two gulyas leves, and porkolt with tarhonya. I had one of the soups, and my husband had the porkolt. It was good, flavorful and the tarhonya was cooked nicely. My soup was lacking...in flavor, paprika and meat and potatoes.....very thin for gulyas. Decor was fabulous, and lovely, but if you want an authentic Hungarian meal, this isn't the place. Our server was great at the beginning but I think that they really crowded up and didn't have enough help. Paying the bill was difficult, took about 20 minutes after we asked for it to actually pay. So for me, this is a one and done.

Characteristic place with typical cuisine. We tried a house starter for two, two goulash and a pork dish for two for a main course for a total of €36 (absolutely cheap for Budapest). I have to admit it was the best place I ate in Budapest. The staff is very kind and ready to make you feel at ease despite the difficulties due to the different language. The dishes were all very good and tasty and the portions were generous. We would have also liked to have a dessert, but even though the two of us only had an appetizer, two soups and a second course, we couldn't do it! In any case it is certainly a highly recommended place.

After leaving the covered market on the side we "fell" in front of this restaurant... from the outside it didn't look like much then looking from the window it was full, good reviews we tried...
Very characteristic place, with ceramic walls, decorated doilies, etc. Wooden benches and tables ... the dishes are plentiful and at a not too high price, typical Hungarian, quick service, courteous staff.

Excellent local food restaurant in Budapest, decorated in a traditional style. We visited the central market but found it very expensive, so we ended up eating at this restaurant right next door. The food is excellent and much more affordable. The decoration immerses you in the typical atmosphere. I recommend the paprika chicken, crispy duck and goulash.

For the last night in Budapest, hoping to have the same luck as the other nights, we decided to have dinner at Pipa, convinced by the good reviews. Unfortunately we had a terrible time, the worst place where we ate, poor food, dry stew glued to dumplings, not at all inviting, in the pork roast we found a hair and the dessert just no big deal. But the thing that left us speechless was the rudeness of the staff at the time of the bill, we are 2 families, we have been traveling together for years and we have always paid the bill divided between 2 credit cards even here in Budapest without anyone creating problems. Here, however, the waitress immediately began to speak in Hungarian visibly annoyed and when we tried to explain to her that no one had ever caused us problems, she began to scream like an eagle, to rail until we left. Please, not recommended!!!!

Very nice place with very kind and friendly staff. Too bad the cuisine is very disappointing. We took the usual soups and they are the only thing that is saved. We continued with the roast duck with a pleasant flavour, an exaggerated portion and placed on a slice of duck made like a steak that had nothing to do with the rest; the result was a very stringy dish with an undefined taste, perhaps if only the roast duck had been served, the dish would have been more pleasant.
Dessert.... well, calling it a dessert and above all serving it as a dessert takes a lot of courage.... I'll start by saying that I have a good mouth and I eat everything, but the desserts were truly inedible, unclassifiable and indescribable because you couldn't even manage to understand what was inside, apart from a bit of pasta (fine spaghetti) assembled with some cheese and that had to be a cheesecake... well...
Luckily there was grappa which gave us a big help to digest.... better to avoid....

Nice little place, with a typical and touristy feel but in a pleasant way. The service was especially positive, they spoke English rather well than Italian, typical dishes were plentiful and tasty, perhaps slightly more expensive than others but absolutely deserved.
I'll be back.

The atmosphere was good and the dishes were not bad. The manager was patient and considerate. However, the waiter was rude when he served the bread by throwing it on the table without saying anything. If I had been asked before paying, I would have surely refused to pay the tips.

Changed management, no good, ate a small portion of goulash soup, sweet roast duck and beer 8700 HUF. I had to pay twice for the service!!! Apart from this, the choice is very limited compared to the past, prices have increased and duck is no longer what it used to be.

Menu not too extensive but with all the typical dishes! Truly generous and satisfying portions! 😍
€41.00 including water, Pepsi Max and service. We ordered:
🐷 Roasted pork. Good, tasty but delicate. Both the crunchy and softer parts were really well cooked!
🦆 Roasted duck leg. Crispy on the outside but very tender on the inside, certainly a more rustic cooking than the one tried by Retek but we can't really tell you which was the best, because they were both delicious!
To accompany both main courses, homemade pickled coleslaw and baked potatoes! 🥔
A really nice location, with elements that recall the Hungarian tradition and give a feeling of warmth and familiarity. The only small flaw: you have to know it to go there, it's a little hidden! 😕
Friendly and helpful staff, most likely family run.
Pieces in line with the quality and quantity offered.

Located next to the main market hall this restaurant ticks all the boxes for a traditional Hungarian meal, and beer.
The menu was very simple but good selection.
The prices are very good considering the size of portions.
The staff are very friendly speaking English.
Highly recommend it for any time of day.
I had gypsy pig with potatoes ,the pork melted in the mouth and the rustic potatoes were very tasty.
For that and Hungarian chicken with egg dumplings and a pint and half of lager it was only 12000 hf.( £25 including service charge which all restaurants do here)
