This coffeehouse receives a full review in the chapter on these amazing local landmarks in my new book "Escape to Budapest: Moving to Europe's Coolest Capital". Empress Elizabeth once used to send out for their cakes! This is the oldest coffeehouse in Budapest.

I always like to come to this small cafè and have some great cakes and a lemonade, all this in a marvellous environment.

The location is perfectly down the street from Matthias Church. We tried the famous Ruzwurm Cream Cake and were not disappointed. Beautiful venue inside, historic views outside, delicious cakes, and comforting coffee. Our visit was perfection.

We stoped here from a Hungarian friend recommendation and recommend it further! We started with the salted potatoes balls and all other flavors tea salted delicacies around. Then the cakes and ice creams for the kids while we enjoyed a beer. Service was quick and...helpful with special attention and care to the kids.More

Cozy place The pieces are big but lack a bit of taste. Good for a rest when visiting the Buda-site. Cheap for the placement

My rule is that when I hodit a country, I must try their traditional desserts. I want here based on Trip Advisor reviews and I was extreamly pleasantly surprised. I entered a gorgeous pattiserie styled in Biedermeier (everything was precisely matched together). Kind waiter helper...me to choose desserts to try - we had traditional Eszterházy tarta (sweet, strong taste of nuts, lots of layers of cream and dough), Ruszwurm Cream cake (huge layer of light vanilla cream tucked between two thin pieces of delicate pastry) and company's speciality - Gellénházy Chestnut cake (I never though chestnuts and chocolate go together so well). All were super tasty, seventh heaven on the tongue. Coffee was good too. It's not the cheapest pattiserie, but the price is suitable for the quality. In order to try Hungarian pastry, go there. This place has my heart.More

Recommended by our Segway tour guide, this is just away from the main street above the castle. A sunny spot with both inside and outside seating, we found good service, excellent cakes and a bathroom if required. Not expensive either and good coffee.

Blink and you will miss this lovely little place close to the Fisherman's Bastion. It serves the most delicious cream cakes and pastries that both look and taste great. The coffee was also good (with a straw in the latte - so I didn't get...froth on my moustache!) We went here twice, the second time as it was opening and it filled up very fast. Make sure that you experience this historic little cafe.More

We were seated straight away and enjoyed the cream slice, a coffee and a hot chocolate. This place got extremely busy while we enjoyed our cake and drinks but the service was quick and polite

I visited Ruszwurm as an incidental visit. I had 40 minutes for the Matthias Church tour so I was exploring around for a coffee to warm me up on a cold day. Ruszwurm looked catchy and busy so I entered without seeing reviews.  It was...a pleasant visit, a short but mesmerising experience. The confectionery and cafe is one of oldest in Budapest. Ferenc Schwabl started his business in 1827 and it's still running. The area and the setting plays a major role in rendering medieval vibes to the place. There was a long queue at the counter and the seats were full. When my turn came, I had just 20 minutes left for the tour. I asked the lady at the till to serve me something quickly and she was very pleasant and co-operative. I had already decided my order, Ruszwurm coffee which is their special coffee and a meat hash. I suppose I was prioritized as my order was served in 6-7 minutes.  As for the quality, the coffee was really unique but in a positive way. The blend of cherry with coffee is bold but pleasant combination. The meat hash was fresh as well. The rates are quite adequate for a vintage cafe at the top tourist destination of Budapest. Clearly worthy of a visit for their friendliness and coffee.More
