Budapest’s oldest pastry shop is located a few meters from the Fisherman’s Bastion but in a little street just outside the heart of it, making it a quiet and collected place. The decor has a hearth, the service is quite acceptable and the living rooms although small are cozy, also have an outside terrace. The menu is quite extensive in both drinks and sweets and the prices despite the place and the fame it has are more than acceptable, making it a highly recommended place to visit.

Very nice place. We got our cakes pretty fast. The pieces are quite thin, but the prices were okay (~3-4€ per slice). The place was small on the inside, and we sat right next to the queue for takeaway. I would recommend waiting for a table outside because it was very busy on the inside. We had to wait at least 20 minutes and ask two different waitresses three times in total for the bill.

Lovely pastry shop! Variety of cakes and beverages and good atmosphere. It was a bit confusing to understand the system; Order inside at the counter = take-away Sit down outside = service at table There was a long queue for both inside service and outside seating, but no information as to the system. Service was variable - the outdoor waitstaff seemed irritated and stressed. Ordered cake and was served something different than ordered. Sunshine and good company made the visit worthwhile, though, and I would recommend THIS bakery for Hungarian pastries and cakes.

Rude staff, would avoid this place if you wish to be even acknowledged. Waited outside for over 10 minutes to be served, in the mean time went inside to have a look at the cakes. Was approached by a rude waitress who told me to find a table and I would be served. I tried to explain I was waiting behind another couple to see which cake I would like and that we already had a table outside and was waiting to be served as no one had approached us even though there had been multiple members of staff walking past us in and out of the door. Again she told me to sit down, but said nothing to others waiting to view the cake counter, instead started gesturing to her colleague.

We went there twice only because the pastries were good, because the welcome was very cold and none of the waitresses smiled! Really not pleasant. The only smile we could see was a young man who came to cash us during our second visit today... thanks to him!

My fiancé and I went to this bakery on a Sunday afternoon! The place is very small and there were so many people queuing. Finding a place to sit was not easy, but the wait is well deserved given the wide variety of local cakes. I recommend it for those who want to taste typical desserts without spending a capital!

I was really excited to try this place out, since I’ve heard and read so much about it online. When I arrived, I went in and waited to talk with a lady that was serving ice cream. While she was serving, she kept puffing and rolling her eyes. I didn’t get a good vibe from her but I looked past it. When it was my turn, I mentioned that I wanted the castle caramel cake here, but she put it for take away. Not to mention that every piece of cake is wrapped in plastic. She threw the cake in the take away bag and didn’t even hand it out to me, I had to take a few steps towards the kitchen-like-room to take it. I got to a table and sat down, and not a second later another lady told me to go away, because I can’t eat take away at a table. I explained the situation and she called another waiter, who kept telling me to go away. I didn’t feel welcomed there. I kindly asked to place the cake on a plate so I can enjoy it there, but they said there were different prices for take away and table seating. Nodding, I get up and go. The whole experience was not nice. The staff were unpleasant to talk to, not even a smile to the customers that were following the rules. Moreover, they were sighting and displeased when someone needed some assistance. The cake was in between; I don’t think it was freshly made, and I could taste some unnatural ingredients. And the price was a bit too much for my taste. They don’t provide plastic cutlery or napkins. The place is small, crowded and warm, without any ventilation that I could have seen. On balance, my only downside to this experience were the people that worked there and their attitude.

We entered this pastry shop to taste the strudel, it's a shame that the waiter very rudely made us leave the table because he didn't want us to take two free chairs to sit on since there were seven of us. The place is small, but even though there were seven of us, we would not have hindered work or passage in the room. Rudeness prevailed over common sense! Remember that it is the tourists who bring the money!

We were told to come to this cafe because it’s the oldest one in Budapest and we have a 10% discount given by buying the bus tour that brought us here. The staff was very unfriendly, forgot to bring us what we ordered and also mixed up our order with the one of a different table. We did not argue about it, because we wanted to feel good as we were on vacation. When the check came, we told them that we had a discount and showed them the coupons, but they brought us the bill in full. We asked them to cancel the bill and bring us the new, correct one. They said it in a very rude way that they will not do this. So what we did was that instead of giving the 10% as tips to the waitress, we paid the bill in full as they did not want to give us the discount we deserved. The only nice person was Suzanne, but the blond young girl with tattoos and the man… no words to describe their rudeness. Very rude, impolite and unfriendly staff. We do not recommend it whatsoever!

In planning our Budapest family vacation, I had identified this as a good place to stop for an afternoon snack while on Buda Castle Hill. There aren't really all than many places to eat up on the hill and, although there are a few alternatives for desserts, it seemed to me that this is the "best" of them. Now, having been there, I think I was right. It was a very nice day so we didn't even go inside (probably should have jsut to check it out). The server was a little curt when we asked for a table but I later came to believe that this is just the normal nonsense demeanor of the locals and the service was prompt and good so I certainly have no complaints. The desserts are AWESOME and, although we only had cake, they have a Gelato place attached, which is always welcome! I would highly recommend you make a point of treating yourself to a sweet delicacy at Ruszvurm Confectionary.

We'd seen the cake shop on a TV program and made sure to visit when around the old part of Buda. Conveniently close to Matthias church & Fisherman's bastion. The shop itself is very old and quite small inside. You can simply order to take away, but we chose to have a table outside. There are a few tables and chairs, but could get busy during main holiday season. Service was relaxed, particularly when waiting for the bill. We had a slight communication issue with one of our drinks, but in fairness to the shop they replaced with the correct drink and we were not charged for the incorrect one. The two cakes we had (Dobos & cream slice) were lovely - although be mindful that they could melt/soften in the afternoon heat. There is certainly lots for you to choose from too! The sour cherry lemonade was probably our favourite drink of the entire stay!

It is one of Budapest's most historic bakeries, Princess Sissi's favorite. The interior showcase shows the multiple cakes, practically a compendium of Hungarian pastries. The high quality of the desserts is combined with the suggestive environment and honest prices.

We stayed at this bakery in Buda because we wanted to retrace Sissi’s steps and taste what she called the best Dobos cake in the city. In winter the outside is not there and the interiors are very small, so we did not use the table service, but we brought with us a slice of cake, which was very good, but nothing unusual. The price is normal, like a single portion in Italy

I'm not a big sweet tooth, I don't usually finish a slice of cake. I ate almost two. The variety of desserts is wide, the quality is high and the place is traditional but does not give the feeling of being old. If you're in Buda, it's worth queuing up to sample the various specialties. Personally I also loved the strudel. I recommend seeing the schedules.

Great cake and coffee shop. Would recommend a visit to try the local style cakes, they are delicious and the coffee was good too. Not as expensive as I thought it would be being so close to the tourist attractions. Under 20euro for coffee and cakes for 3 people. Nice historic shop, helpful staff with good English, able to help make choices for the cakes as you'll be overwhelmed by the choices available.
