We stumbled on this little place after some touring around. What a discovery! We've never had fish soup quite like this. A must if you are in the area.

Every time I come home to visit I have to pass at this place cause they have the best fish soup in Budapest! Don't really understand the negative comments on here cause it's a pretty good restaurant. Service is fast and if you want to eat some traditional hungarian food then you are at the right place! Oh and don't... More

We picked this restaurant based on a recommandation from the lonely planet. When ordering food, you are not allowed to sit outsiede. The atmosphere is nice inside with all the fishing nets and an upside down boat. The service was very poor: 3 big blokes forgetting our orders, spilling drinks on the table while serving, charging more than the mentioned... More

We tried here on the off chance and enjoyed the hearty food. It was plentiful and filling. The place has a good view of the river if you are sitting outside.

Really enjoyed my time in this small Hungarian restaurant. The waiters were big blokes wearing jeans and t shirts so not a posh eatery but I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The decor was certainly different with an upside down boat with a guy using his fishing rod to catch the upside down fish stuck in the wall. Going to... More

I ordered beef stew cooked in red wine and my friend had the clear meat soup. I wouldn't be surprised if mine was a can of dog food with added salt and gravy, and my friend's soup most likely came out of a can. This was made worse by the waiters muttering and laughing to each other after our food... More

Only thing lacking was traditional Hungarian music. This would make the overall atmosphere feel more culture based. Our server spoke great English and offered good recommendations.

Meat was fatty service ok but could be better. Decor was nice though. And wide selection of meals on menu.

Cozy, slightly kitsch restaurant decor. The seafood menu was quiet varied, with lots of different fish stews and soups. I ordered one with sour cream and lemon and it was very tasty. For such a central restaurant, the prices seemed fair, and all sides were quite cheap.

Nice small place with lot of locals. Food was delicious, thou veryyyy salty. And we had a bit misunderstanding with our orders, but it was mainly our own fault haha:D Service was ok, a bit "there's your food, now i'll disappear in the kitchen and come back when you've eaten"...

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighborhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
