What should I say? The red Ferdinand beer is second to none. Prices are medium range in the Budapest level, the place is beautiful, the food is great, portions are designed for hungry males. That means, if you have a starter and a main course, you might not have enough room left for the dessert... Well, you can say that about many restaurants in Budapest, but what really distinguishes this place is the atmosphere, and that is 100 per cent down to the waiters. Very warm welcome, friendly service and I don't mean a plastic "I am friendly so give me big tip" style for stupid Americans. These guys genuinely care if you are happy. You have the feeling that you would happily have a few beers with this man just of the sake of the good crack. I have been coming to this place for years, and the experience is always the same. In addition, there is no commercial radio music, you are able to talk with your companion without trying hard to listen and having to raise your voice. The only annoying thing is the arrival of a loud party of tourist every now and then, who think they can be rude for their money and are not obliged to respect the rules of civilised behaviour. But that is hardly the fault of the place. In Hungarian: Mit mondjak? A vörös Ferdinánd sör felülmúlhatatlan.

Absolutely authentic Hungarian cellar restaurant! On the recommendation of Bernadette (also 5 points) there was fantastic tartare, delicious Pörkölt and a wonderfully tender lamb neck. Homemade drinks, fresh beer, a great evening!

We were there today and were directly greeted from Marcell, he was very nice and welcoming, made us feel very comfortable. We liked the food very much, everything tasted awesome and we were very satisfied with everything. We were actually too full to eat a desert so Marcell suggested us a hungarian schnapps and fit perfectly after dinner. And the beer was really good as well.. we definitely recommend the restaurant and hope to come back soon again.

We were referred to this restaurant, and also went because of the decent reviews. However, we found it very disappointing. It may have been the dishes we chose. Regardless, our server noticed that much of our food was left on the plates and we considerately explained the reason. We did not want anything further but to pay and leave. We love traditional European fare, but this certainly didn't meet our expectations.

We had dinner on the last evening of our vacation and we were very pleased. The wait staff was very welcoming and friendly and the restaurant itself has a touch of the old world charm. A nice varied menu was offered and I had the roast duck which was absolutely fantastic. I received a large portion at a very fair price. Desserts were also delicious and the beer nice and cold with flavor. It was a perfect end to our vacation. I highly recommend.

Service was good and menu very interesting. Ambience is nice if a little rustic. Let down by problems with cookery and vastly over seasoned pork and beef. I really wanted this to be a find, but it was a modestly expensive (relatively speaking) beerhaus type cellar, with very disappointing food.

My wife and I visited here for a drink one night and for lunch the next day. Like everywhere we went in Budapest, it proved to be great value (beer <£2 / pt for example). We had an excellent lunch of sausages and porcini soup to start and cheese noodles with pork stew; duck with red cabbage for main course. A couple of beers, a wine and a coffee later, the bill was <£30. A special mention for the staff though. When we went in for a drink the evening before we went to lunch, we filled out our passenger locator forms and left a vax certificate on the table when we left. They kept it and gave it to us the next day. they didn't need to do that but we were very pleased they did! Food is arguably more Czech than Hungarian but outstanding either way.

We keep having pleasant surprises. Delicious very authentic local cuisine with a Czech slant. Heat half duck and goulash soup and then a baked cake "drunk" in apricot liquor!!! Marcel was a wonderful waiter, knowledgeable on the menu and great service

Wasn't sure about a Czech meal while visiting Budapest. But this beautiful little restaurant was set in a basement the prices looked reasonable. The food me and my wife chose was amazing , the staff were very attentive highly recommend.

We really liked this place. The Czech beer was superb, and complemented the traditional food. I especially liked the goulash soup which can be enlivened with the homemade chilli oil. The service was great. A Czech restaurant in Budapest was a find and a pleasant change.

Booked Ferdi’s as recent reviews good & liked the fact they served their own beers. We had pork cheeks (melt in the mouth) & beef with onions & 2 lovely puds. The beers were lovely. Tried the lager & the red. Also tried the local Palinka. Felt it all the way down to my gut. Quince & plum. Prices reasonable. Service was friendly & quick. Would recommend.

The dining room was very comfortable with nice ambience. Food was good, I didn’t like the potato salad that came with the breaded pork cutlet but that is just personal taste. My dining companion had the cottage cheese dumplings and pork stew. She enjoyed it. Service was prompt but not overly friendly. Good medium dark beer. We would return.

I enjoyed my meal at this Czech restaurant in Budapest. The cuisine is very similar to Hungarian food so I am not sure if my pork tenderloin with lecso and potatoes was Czech or Hungarian. In either case it was very filling and unfortunately, I had no room for dessert. Service was prompt and friendly and the food came out relatively quickly so all was good there.

We had a very nice time at the Ferdinand Restaurant. We wanted to try some Tjech beer and in order to make an informed choice, the nice waiter Marcell gave us a few traditional options to try which was very good. In the end we had a nice starter and main course (could not fit in desert because we were very full)! Would recommend :)

First visited this place 10 years ago just for drinks but this time we had food and it was excellent. The service and quality of the food and drink makes this place worth visiting. Nicely out of the way and with seating outside and lovely decor inside, will visit again if I return to Budapest.
