We discovered this cafe very close to our hotel. The atmosphere of the place was quaint and cozy. The music was a live band 4 or 5 men playing traditional music. We had drinks and some snacks. Our waiter Mark was very helpful in choosing...local beers. He was friendly and spoke with us in English. He also answered questions about Budapest as it was our first night in the city. I highly recommend this cafe. It is located on a square. It has indoor and outdoor seating. Right up the street is a beautiful music academy that has lovely art nouveau style architecture and decor. This bistro was recommended by our Viking rep as somewhere not too far away from the hotel but all the reviews of previous guests had been very good. After our experience I can see why, we didn't book - maybe thinking on a Wednesday night...we didn't need to, but it was full. However, some tables were drifting off, we were asked to wait 10 minutes (and received a glass of prosecco on the house) while the staff cleared and sterailised a table for 4. The menu was a good mix of Hungarian and European dishes, my Beefsteak Hungarian Style (the main) was very rich as it included fried goose liver, but very well cooked and presented. There is a good local beer menu here, wine isn't strictly necessary. The staff were busy without being fussy and the place had a real buzz about it. All four of us left very satisfied with this recommendation, it would be advisable to book (even on a Wednesday!)More

Good food but disappointing waiter service. Waiter made rude comments regarding the fact myself and my fiancée were unable to provide a tip each occasion we went. Furthermore, although we explicitly asked him to pay in local currency, he used our card and put it...in euros right in front of us.More

We had a daily menu. Very tasty food, quick and polite service. Nice, clean and cosy place. We were sitting inside, I think the terrace would be noisy (neighbourhood is in course of construction), the place by the window is lovely.

We have nipped in for a quick beer whilst walking the city. No lunch for us as we had our heart set on street food, but from what I saw being served.. ula lah! Extremely friendly staff and sweet little place. If it wasn’t for...my husbands stubburness, I would definitely order something from the menu. Worth your time!More

We came here on our first night of our break to Budapest. We came across this Restaurant when walking through the streets. It looked so inviting. Inside, the restaurant was cosy and had a romantic feel. The staff were friendly and were helpful too. As...for the food it was beautiful presentation and taste wise. l would happily return to it if ever in Budapest againMore

The restaurant offers a yummy yummy delicious 😋 meals with a good normal prices. We have 3 children whom enjoyed there Italian menu & the Hungarian one. The restaurant was full at the second day of Christmas & it took about 30 minutes to prepare...the meals for us. I think they must work more on the Goulash Soup ( it needs more Meat & Spices. The waiters were so kindly & friendly & all the time around us asking if we need anything. I liked the way of the service charge ( Tip) at the bill they asked me would you like to add 12% or 15% as a tip. This is a smart technique of them. I advice other tourist to visit & eat in the Cafe Vian BistroMore

Lovely ambience, decent choice of food / wine, great service, generous tasty servings & fair value for money. Would return if visiting Budapest. Hope you enjoy the experience as we did.

Stumbled across this restaurant on our first evening and had a very pleasant meal. The stand out course was the starter of of creamy eggplant (aubergine) with toast. The chicken paprika and duck main courses were good and generous.

Whilst in the city and looking for somewhere slightly different to eat we happened to come across this lovely little restaurant bistro bar. The staff were friendly and attentive and we felt at home within minutes. We both had the mussels in their own sauce...with fries. They were freshly cooked and delicious. We picked a lovely Hungarian wine to wash the meal down. The evening was thoroughly enjoyable and we were pleased to have chosen Cafe Vian!More

I’ve eaten here many times. It’s a great little European bistro with fresh ingredients, a full bar and draft beer. Located in the touristic V district 1 block from St. Stephen’s Square
