We were wandering around on the night we arrived and stumbled on this place, they had a table for us and we had a lovely meal. The service was very good and very friendly. The food was delicious, I enjoyed my tenderloin salad, and my...husband thought his schnitzel was delicious. I would recommend this place.More

The setting and the music is very nice and so was the service. The food however was terrible, without a single redeeming exception. The roast duck leg was probably the worst I ever had; I had the impression it had been cooked on a different...day and reheated prior to being served. The goulash was mediocre at best. And the chicken paprikas was barely passable. A pity, because the setting is really quite charming.More

The food was delicious! Especially try the local delicacy desserts! The staff were friendly and attentive. Overall an excellent lunchtime experience... and done twice in the few days we were in Budapest

When We arrived an unfriendly lady server offered us a table. We sat there for more than 10 minutes before she approached our table. I ordered a steak goulash. Very few pieces came with a lot of dumplings so that the plate looked full. Later...I saw her take something - couldn’t see what - from a plate she was taking to a table and whatever that was she gulped it down. The pianist played beautiful songs but he looked very bored by them. No enthusiasm. To make matters worse, on his break he sat outside smoking just in front of our table which was the first entering the restaurant with no glass or anything separating us. Smoke straight at us. Avoid this run-down unfriendly place. Some poor customers went upstairs. Don’t do that.More

Loved the food at this restaurant. However, the service was sullen and grumpy! Drinks dumped on the table, no niceties or how was your meal?? Wouldn’t go back because of the waiter!

First night we wanted to go there, checked the menu outside and immediately were approached by rude waitor asking what we want (literally his words). As the music was really good, we thought maybe he had a bad day and decided to give it another...try a day after. Second day: sat down (we were 3), only one of us decided to drink a glass. Waitress asked us to leave (even though our friend got the drink and paid for it) as we didn't order anything. UnacceptableMore

Recommended by a friend who lives in Budapest. I’ve been three times in the week whilst I’ve been here. Had the goulash, Hungarian pork chops and breadcrumbed pork with garlic potato. Enjoyed every visit. Polite friendly staff. Prices are pretty good and nice atmosphere. Would...definitely come again.More

Just picked this place after walking the streets and were pleasantly surprised. it was a weekday around 7 PM when we ate here without a reservation. We heard music and then realized it a live piano player as we sat at the outdoor area. The...two dishes we ordered were delicious - wienerschintzel and trout. With a bottle of sparkling and diet coke the cost was about $43 including service.More

We found this cafe as we were walking along Nagymezo Utca. It is adjacent to the Budapest Operetta Theatre. The food and service was excellent. Our waiter spoke perfect English and was a true host. While we dined, the Operetta was having a dress rehearsal....The singing and music made our dinner extra special. A must is the chicken paprikosh. The vegetable beet soup and cucumber salad were a perfect match to the main course. Whether you are attending the operetta or not, this is a good place for coffee, drinks, and/or a full meal.More

The waitress was so rude and made us feel so unconfurtable. It was a nightmare of a place. What a Shame when this is such a beautiful city

I’m writing this review literally 5 minutes after leaving the place as I’ve never been so rudely served ever before! We went in, a group of 4 friends and we were sat in a table, near the entrance and an hidden piano! When the waitress...approached we kindly said that we were just there for some drinks, to what she acted really surprised and might I say ‘kind of disgusted’ by that fact, but didn’t say anything as to if we needed to have food! We ordered the drinks and were presented with a plate of bread with cheese that we did not order and therefore sent back as we were starting to feel pushed to have something we did not asked for: the waitress was very surprised insisting that we did not know what it was and why we didn’t want it (never this have happened to me before) and very rudely I might add, treating us like ignorants! We had our drinks and suddenly the piano starts, literally 30 cm away from our table, loud enough that we could not have a normal conversation.. in the meantime the same waitress goes outside and comes back in leaving the door open, with like 7 degrees cold outside! Apparently we’re not even allowed to take off our jackets! The most hideous part: we ask for the bill and we were presented with the 3 beers we asked for, 2 glasses of wine, when we only asked for one and some other amount that the description had been stamped, making it impossible to know what it was! When we directed ourselves to the same waitress again to clarify the bill she almost didn’t let us speak, shouting ‘service charge’ over and over again. When we manage to explain her that we only had ordered a glass of wine instead of two she was literally trying to abuse our sanity, saying that there they charge for 20dl of wine as normal (that we can not possibly measure) and therefore it was 2 glasses instead of one! We refused this and very reluctantly she took off one glass of the bill. By the end of it we also refused to pay service charge, as we were and still are extremely offended by the way we were treated, but apparently that was not all because we were called cheap and then she slammed the door in our face! OUTRAGEOUS!More

What a shame that me and my friends were treated so badly in there by the waitress. It was my friends bday and since we were on Holidays to visit this lovely city we decided to have a drink. When we asked for the bill...there was extra drinks on our bill. I wanted to tell the waitress that we didn’t drink all of that and she kept shouting at me that it was the service charge. After she calmed down she said that yes she charged us extra because that’s the policy, which I didn’t understand what she meant with that. When I asked her to remove the extra drinks she had charged she started to speak in Hungarian to the other employees about it wich made me feel really uncomfortable. She kept calling me cheap person and then I asked to remove the service charge because all the other guests at the restaurant were looking at me already and I was feeling so embarrassed. After we left she slammed the door in our face and kept calling us cheap with everyone looking at us. I am a restaurant manager in London and I have visited lots of places worldwide and never in my life I felt so ashamed and so bad after I left a restaurant. A shame for my friend that it was her birthday and we chose that place to celebrate it.More

Found this place after looking at the menus of many others. Good prices and good portions. Although the food took a while it was very tasty and it was accompanied by live music (piano and violin).
