We were given a lovely welcome at the Vagon Etterem and thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks. The atmosphere is really nice inside. Staff very friendly and helpful. The food was really tasty and full of flavour, great home cooking and well- presented. Portion size...was generous too and the prices are very reasonable. Would definitely recommend and definitely return.More

Lovely location and the novelty of the carriage makes it feel special, but that's as far as it goes. My husband and I had the spicy chicken with salad and flat bread. Our chicken was so dry and the portions of chicken were very small....The salad had no dressing and the only good thing about the meal was the flat bread. Our daughter had the chicken portions with chips from the childrens menu, which seemed alot fresher and was larger than our meals. It really wasn't anything special. Don't waste your time, it's yet another mediocre restaurant in Budapest.More

We were staying in a nearby hotel in Buda and came across this by chance walking back down from Fisherman's Bastion. We had a drink on the terrace whilst we looked at the menu and weighed it up. Being honest, our main concern was that...the staff spoke very little English and were not very welcoming initially, almost like they didn't want us there. But the train carriage was so appealing that we decided to risk it, and we were glad we did. We ate inside the carriage, which is very atmospheric. Our food was lovely and the staff became more friendly and we warmed to them. Good value for money and something a bit different.More

the place is just exceptional! it's literally old restaurant carriage place near Deli Railway station. The food is great, the menu offers a large variety of different kinds of food. The staff do not speak English very well, but they manage with the friendly service....At the end as a group we wanted to pay separately, which was communicated to the waiter, he said no problem, but he printed one bill. After that the boss came across took the calculator and we were able to pay as we wished. All in all this place is awesome!More

Our experience is 1 out of 5. The food was not good, it did not have flavors, and the pasta was undercooked, but it was still average. We would not write this feedback if this would have been the only problem. Honestly, the average, low-quality...food is the smallest problem of the place. The staff was surprisingly unprofessional and rude to us and other guests. They used bad language in the service area, a few steps away from us so we and the other guests heard. In their loud conversations, they talked about the guests and how they not liking their life and job. The waiter called Géza (the manager? called him, this is how we know his name) is a rude, unprofessional, burned-out waiter who we ever met. He was arrogant and negligent, we felt unwelcome from the first moment. He was talking to himself and commenting loudly and negatively on everything with bad language. Is it such a shame to waste a beautiful train wagon restaurant with the potential to be one of the bests in the neighborhood with its very special atmosphere. We feel sorry for the owners for losing this opportunity because of the horrible attitude of these employees. A few years ago I was there and it was okay, they made mistakes but definitely not on this very low service and food quality level. Because of the special train ambiance, we decided to go back. It was a huge disappointment, we regret the decision to spend our money there :( The wagon itself is unique and beautiful -despite the lack of renovation- it is worth taking some photos of. I hope it will be a takeover by more professional operators to become a quality place in the future.More

TERRIBLE PLACE. The waiters were EXTREMELY rude, to the point when asking to pay with card the waiter looked at us made an extremely dramatic sigh with GRUNTS (even though we had previously asked if we could pay with card) and then proceed to throw...-yes, throw.- the coins of the change to one of my friends who paid with cash. We had never experienced something like this before. Also, we had to call the waiter many times to order because he kept ignoring us. Would definitely NOT recommend, the food wasn´t even that good.More

We visited Vagon Restaurant recently. The food was delicious and there was a large selection of Hungarian dishes. Very interesting place. We’ve never been in such a restaurant where the owner is sleeping at the table and the waiter would have wished us the hell...out of it! We didn't stay too long.More
