We found this restaurant without recommendation, just by walking around this area and we were in for a really pleasant surprise!. The restaurant is close to the river and main metro stations and very easy to find. The decoration is cosy and welcoming. The service was excellent both by the young waiter with attention to details and by the older... More

We visited this restaurant on our first night in Budapest. It was the highest rank close to where we were at the time. It is in a good location near the Danube and the restaurant is very reasonably priced (around £50 for two people, 3 courses with beer). We had a goulash soup, cold appetiser, steak with duck liver, deer... More

I searched among TripAdvisor's top rated restaurants for one serving reasonably priced typical Hungarian food within walking distance of my hotel, and Chef Cafe met or exceeded all my expectations. To my surprise, on a Saturday night I was able to get a table for one without a reservation. Service was impeccable: the waiter carefully explained everything on the menu... More

We visited the restaurant on a Friday evening. The place is friendly, nice atmosphere, food is ok but nothing special. Alltogether it was fine but I don't think we are coming back.

Looking for the restaurant in the afternoon to find the best walking route from our hotel I wondered whether we had made a mistake in choosing this place as it was shut up and shuttered, not very prepossessing. However, come the evening, the venue had completely changed to a very welcoming environment, much appreciated on a damp night. The maitre... More

Visited this restaurant after reading good reviews on Trip Advisor and was not disappointed and our apartment was literally above it. The owner gave us a great welcome and was so friendly and explained about the food and wine and was really helpful. Food was lovely, I had roasted duck leg and hubby had the venison stew and they were... More

Thank you Chef Cafe for a lovely evening in your pretty restaurant serving traditional delicious Hungarian food and wine. Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
