Having dined in a couple of WP’s outlets around the globe, his first European outpost did NOT disappoint.
Usually the high-end, more pricey places in Budapest don’t have much to offer other than a normal/casual place, but Spago was REAL let me tell you. True hospitality from the heart. Exactly what I was hoping for, from the cocktails at the bar, to the quality ingredients and beautiful dishes.
Staff well trained and had plenty of attention to detail, which is what is missing from restaurants in this price range in the city.
Special shoutout to Erik the bartender, (I hope I remember the name correct), who made us the most beautiful aperitif drinks prior to dinner. Amazing knowledge.
Will definitely be returning upon my next visit to this beautiful city.

From the first moment sitting at this great place you are treated as a Prince . Waiters are very welcome and super professional , smiling, knows all the details of the dishes and service is adequate.
We had the best tuna tartar ever had, smoothing in the mouth, served .
in refined waffle conus and socrunchy, just a dream. Also the dish of the Bursta cheese salat was divine. For main courses we took the fish dishes, no words to describe the celebration of tastes and colourful of the dishes. God inspired the Chef. And for desert a great remarkable Basque cheese cake, couldn't be better finale for a super tasty evening.
Thank you team at the kitchen and on the service. We will come again and again.
.Prices were reasonable for the high quality.

We had a nice dinner, pre booked and asked for a romantic spot, instead we got a table in the terrace area, which was closed off, but as it was winter, the glass walls kept us super cold all evening...
The welcoming from the staff and kitchen is super friendly, professional and very inviting overall. Our waitress was super kind, she kept an eye on us all the time and gave us good recommendations for our dinner.
When wanting to order drinks, a gentleman came over, but turned out he was not the sommelier of the restaurant, just another waiter... well, the recommended wines and cocktails were undrinakble, absolutely not the taste we asked for... after paying so much money, I would say it could have been a top priority for them to change the drinks in such case, but no.
The food was really nice, amazing tastes, very neatly made.
alltogether I enjoyed the time spent there, the place is really beautiful and stylish, the food is delicious, but make sure you order from the real sommelier, you might actually get lucky.

We were a group of eight who had booked a table in the restaurant. One of our common interests is to go out and eat at fine dining restaurants. There is a genuine interest for food and vine and a lot of experience in the group.
We had mad clear with the restaurant that everybody was paying separately. The expectations were high.
But… they placed us in the bar! Not in the restaurant! Half the group sat in a sofa that was too low for the table. For some reason Spago had music, loud music. I have never been at a fine dining restaurant where they play this loud. Of course we asked them to lower the music but they didn’t
We ordered food. In comparison with other fine dining restaurants in Budapest it was overprized average. We ordered starters and mains… The starters didn’t come at the same time, neither did the mains. Another thing was that the staff never once came and asked if everything was ok or if they could do something more for us.
The restaurant had a sommelier. It was impossible to hear what he said so we just ordered a bottle of white vine to our fish dishes at our end of the table. I ordered a Pinot Noir with the dessert. When the waiter came with a bottle to the table it didn’t taste like it. He held the bottle so I couldn’t see the label. I asked to see it and it was a Syrah. The waiter said it was the same. Maybe he believes in it.
And I don’t want to see staff on a restaurant making faces when we ask for the bills.

The ambiance is not as good as the quality of the property and the location would suggest. The service is excellent. However, it's what they serve leaves you wondering why you chose this place to eat.
You need to know that I am a fitness freak and don't eat big portions. Yet, I needed four different dishes, including a pizza to stop me thinking about going somewhere else to finish my dinner.
Generally speaking, there seems to be a disconnect between the location, the food they serve and the pricing. There are better choices in Budapest where everything falls into place.

Went there for a special occasion and from the very beginning the night was ruined by a very nasty waitress, "Kristina" was her name (black hair skinny young lady).
First I asked to change my table to a better one with a view, we had just arrived the other table was free, so not a big deal but right away I noticed her mumble on her own as she was preparing the table, ok sorry for the extra work but up to here no problem for me.
But then every other time she would serve us she would act as if she was doing us a favor, not helpful at all in any question we asked and she took all our plates away in a rush, I felt like I was eating in a cheap diner.
The best part was when our bottle of water (not placed on the table) vanished after 1 glass, so I told her "I think somebody took it because I only had 1 glass and the person with me was NEVER given any" and her reply was "RELAX its just water, the next one is on the house"... Relax? this is how you speak to customers?
I asked her for advice on dessert and she just had a smug face the all time.
At the end the bill came and I asked if I could pay in Euros, she said yes, so I said "can you tell me how much it is in Euros?" and she looked at me as if I had to make the conversion, then told me one price, I gave her the money and came back with change for a total different amount.
Food was good (not amazing) the desserts where really good however.
The other waiter were very nice, what you would expect in such a place.
So why did I give only 2 stars? Because I work hard for my money and cant afford Wolfgang's restaurants all the time and it was a special occasion, so obviously her whole demeaner really ruined my night. Not to mention that 15% gratuity is mandatory so the rude waitress got 42 euro just to act like a nightmare

Located within palatial Matild Palace hotel, Spago Budapest by Wolfgang Puck is a vibrant bar and expansive and buzzing brasserie and restaurant.
The first European outpost of the famous Austro-American chef’s global culinary empire, Spago Budapest serves excellent contemporary takes on classic Hungarian fare complimented by a superb wine list presided over by affable sommelier Máté Horváth, complete with slick sevice.
Spago Budapest is undoubtedly THE place in the charismatic Hungarian capital to currently be seen on a weekend night and reservations are essential.

We really enjoyed our experience and dinner there during February when it was cold, dark and dreary here in Budapest. The decor and atmosphere is warm and inviting. The sun room area is decorated with live olive trees and you can enjoy the sunshine there in the middle of winter.
We are planning to go soon in July when we go back this weekend so I will update!
What we enjoyed very much was the kindly servers we had and the sommelier who knew so much about the Hungarian and French wines available.
The food was served quickly and hot. It was very good!
The bathrooms super clean, which is always a must for me.

Fabulous meal!! As one would expect from a restaurant of this calibre and reputation, the meal was incredible! Creative, delicious and well presented. Wine list was also very good.
The only comment I would make is that the front desk/hostess staff were a little inflexible. We had a seven o’clock reservation, and just got back to the hotel about 6:40 after a full day of sightseeing. I asked if we could move our reservation to 7:30. The hostess quickly said no, and that if we could not make it by then, we would have to give up our reservation. As it was a birthday dinner, we skipped the showers and did a quick change and managed to get downstairs in time. There were 3 tables empty behind us for an hour and a half…so we couldn’t figure out why our reservation could not be moved to a bit later. However our meal was wonderful! I just felt a bit under appreciated as a customer paying a very hefty bill for a 3 course dinner.

For my husband's birthday I took him to Spago - despite there being many unoccupied tables at 6.30pm we were sat next to a couple that appeared to be ordering just about everything so waiter was more interested in them! Waited quite a while for my glass of wine to be brought to the table. Food was good, and the dessert my husband had was very splendid and totally unique. Feel service needs to be upped especially as they add 14% service charge!!

Arrived solo for dinner on a business trip. I loved the decor of the restaurant and the bold choice in music (Guns & Roses and Metallica were both played). I was taken to my seat by the lovely hostess and quickly asked for my drink order by my waiter. I asked for a recommendation and got a cocktail that matched my requests perfectly.
Dinner started with a lovely fresh selection of breads, served with soft butter and duck leg rillette. I could just eat that all day. It was that good.
As my starter I had the trio of foie gras.
I loved the crisp Jerusalem Artichoke chips that accompanies it. Well presented and very well executed.
For mains I had the sautéed duck breast which was perfectly cooked and the sides went well with the dish. Amazing presentation.
Last, while browsing the dessert menu I noticed the dark chocolate soufflé. I have a soft spot for this dish as my mother used to make it for our birthdays when we were young. It reminded me of her very much, so thank you for those memories.

We had a very nice evening at Spago. The hostess who showed us our table paid attention to us all evening, together with the waiters and the sommelier - all made it a very positive experience recommending great food and wine. Very attentive staff. Food was very good and made to perfection in taste and texture, winepoiring was spot on.
After dinner we enjoyd some cocktails in the bar, it was a pleasure to see the bartenders mix and shake and paying attention to the details, very tastefull cocktails.
All this made our visit the perfect night out.

Surely a great mix of ambience and good food.
It is not a gourmet restaurant, it is a place with good and modern vibes, good food that can satisfy different tastes, professional and attentive service,
The location is modern, there is a big bar spot where to drink something before eating.
To me is a great place to spend the night with your dear one or with friends.
We liked the overall experience and will return.

We have had a birthday celebration here. The service was literally dreadful - just to name a few examples: we have ordered aperitifs which arrived 40 minutes late together with both the wine for the appetizers and the wine for the main dish ( a sweet Tokaj and Red wine). Needless to say that you could not enjoy any given all came at the same time… furthermore servers took plates whilst some of us were still eating… if you are thinking about celebrating anything here - my advice is don’t!!!

We went to Spago for my birthday dinner and I’m really glad we did. The service was top notch and (although my waiter hadn’t been informed it was my birthday) he clearly treats everyone special. We mentioned that my partner was struggling between the pork and beef mains, and the waiter arranged for an extra side of the beef along with the pork to give us both options.
The beef tratare was the best dish my boyfriend ate on our whole trip. The vegetarian options (especially the mains) could have been a bit more inventive, although I enjoyed the cauliflower steak anyway.
The desert was also a delightful take on traditional somloi galuska.
A really special night in great ambiance and we will be back for more!
