Inside the beautiful gilded age Matild Palace hotel is Matlid Cafe. The interior is what you would expect from gilded age era. The hotel has lots of history. The cafe menu is short for lunch only. I had the chicken schnitzel. It was good and...very affordable. The staff is hit or miss. My waiter no personality what so ever. But the bar tender amazing. That was the main reason I came for lunch was because of the service I had the day prior with the bar tender.More

Fantastic breakfast in a beautiful hotel. I had the salmon bagel which had more than enough salmon .. lovely coffee and very reasonable prices. Staff very attentive and excellent service The dining room was empty but this may have been because we were late breakfast...eaters !More

On the plus side, a lot of money has been spent to restore the former Belvarosi cafe to an agreeable restaurant. The exterior and interior evoke its fin-de-siècle heyday, much of the new furniture is well chosen, and the food is excellent, as is the...service (although the latter is a bit nervously over-attentive) . We enjoyed our poached eggs and avocado toast, poke salmon and butternut squash soup. The bill, with two glasses of wine, a double espresso and a slice of Eszterházy cake, came to a pricey HUF 24,000 ( ca A$100) for two. But the main criticism of this place - and why it gets only 3/5 from this TripAdvisor - is that its claim that this is the ‘restored’ former grand cafe, as the establishment asserts, is not credible. Where are the newspapers on wooden racks? Why the bossy need to be shown to a table and the canned music - neither of which are part of the tradition of the Central European cafe? The managers would be well advised to spend some time in real traditional Austro-Hungarian cafes - Sperl, Bräunerhof , Rüdigerhof or Goldegg in Vienna; the San Marco in Trieste; or the Slavia in Prague, and to echo the ways they’re run. This criticism sadly also applies to the similarly insensitive management of other architecturally-magnificent Habsburg-era Budapest cafes, such as the New York and the Centrál.More

It was our last morning in Budapest and we decided to have breakfast at this place before heading out to the airport. There was a breakfast buffet on the upper floor for the hotel guests but we were seated on the ground floor for the...ala carte breakfast. We ordered breakfast pastries, smoked salmon plate and the American breakfast, which tasted like any other breakfast from a hotel.More

A very elegant and beautiful interior with mostly kind, helpful staff. The menu was a bit limited I thought, and the presentation of the food could have been a little more elegant (I didn’t get any napkins), but the taste was good. We enjoyed our...visit.More

A cafe with excellent and real elegant atmosphere. The building is from 1901. Here is also the great hotel Matild Palace. The stuff are very polite and highly professional! A piano at the center of Cafe playing beautiful melodies is adding to the nice feeling...you get as you drinking your coffee or your drink. Absolutely recommended!More

My son (19) and myself came here for supper during a short stay in the city and wow what a fabulous surprise it was! The Building itself is simply dripping with history and just gorgeous...worth a visit just to experience the opulence of that! The...staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgable. The 'cabaret' on this a Wednesday night was a talented guitarist and although the number of diners was few the atmosphere was still magical. The food was delicious...not a huge evening type menu but all of wonderful quality. We shared the Foie Gras Terrine starter, my son had the homemade sausages and I had the Beef stew...calling it a stew is a major understatement as the beef was incredibly tender and tasty. DO visit as it is newly refurbished and we would highly recommend it.More
