A very nice place to eat, with delicious dishes (a pumpkin soup, mamamia!!!, and a very good dessert with nuts) and good wines. The place is very nice, and we met there Andrew, a very nice waiter ! smiling, helpfull and good adviser. Very good memories ! We really would like to go there again and again!

Went here for breakfast twice during our stay in Budapest and I cannot fault the place. The young man that served us on both occasions was brilliant, he spoke really good English and he was really keen, and looked like he loved his job. All the food was great as was the decorations inside and outside. Great place would recommend... More

Me and my partner stayed here for 5 nights and it was honestly the best choice of hotel we could have made. The staff were extremely welcoming and helped carry our bags up to our room. The room was spacious with such a comfy bed, ideal space for us as a couple. The rainfall shower was relaxing, but the bathroom was... More

First of all let me tell you I visit Budapest very often and have been doing so for the past 20 years or so. Since I discovered this family run restaurant I try to have at least one lunch or dinner here on each of my visits. Sadly it is not always possible.... They have the best traditional Hungarian Gulyas... More

We first visited 2 years ago and decided to try it again when visiting with family. It was every bit as good as last time. Brilliant goulash soup, great wild boar stew. Excellent evening

I expected much more from the restaurant in the heart of an old city from Budapest. The waiters were nice and polite, but the cook or cooks are very disappointed. first of all I had to wait 40 min for Cesar Salad and French Freise! I could more or less understand my husband had to wait 40 min for the... More

this place was recommended by our tour guide so we tried it out. It was very good. My wife's chicken paprikash with noodles and my homemade grilled sausage with mashed potatoes were very tasty. Nice interior and friendly staff who spoke very good English, I would definitely recommend this bistro

Ventured out of hotel on short trip to Budapest. Walked over to Pest-Buda and was given a great seat by the window. Due to travel exhaustion I really wasn't up to thinking about what to order so on this occasion I decided to do something I never do and asked my server Andrew to set me up. Andrew was awesome,... Description
Pest-Buda is located on the ground floor of a baroque house in the medieval castle district. Until 1900, the building functioned as an inn, its ground floor housing a pub or a restaurant, and three bedrooms on each of the upper floors. The world changed, the inn became a residential building but the pub stayed, or more precisely, transformed into a restaurant.Around the sixties and the seventies, it was still considered a place of good fame. When it became vacant in 2010, our team took over the place and began developing the new concept of Pest-Buda.We decided that our bistro should feature a simple Hungarian home-cuisine-like approach and that we should show how this can be done in an outstanding, state-of-the-art way, with a short but seasonal menu. We are not trying to renew it or deconstruct it, venturing into molecular gastronomy, but instead by offering excellent stews, grilled sausages, french fries and flamed pies straight out of the oven.As simple as this sounds, this might be the greater of the two challanges. Bringing forward the best beef stew in the world is an enormous challange. It takes a long time to achieve this and we have much work ahead us, but we are already on the right track concerning grilled sausages and the oven-baked flamed pies.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighborhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
