We enter this small but beautiful place and immediately we are greeted by a warm atmosphere, fairly wide choice and short waiting times, excellent value for money and beautiful dishes to look at. Obviously I could not buy one of the nice t-shirts they sell. Good guys!

I really liked this place because they cook well and especially have the kitchen in sight so show that they do not hide anything about the way of cooking. I didn't just like the fact that they don't make discounts for regular customers and if you ask to modify a dish they refuse. The nicest waiter was Christian, a man who also speaks Italian (my language) and seemed very nice and friendly.

Super recommended!! Very nice place, warm and friendly staff, there is also a waiter who knows Italian, the owner is also very nice. We ate really well, everything freshly cooked and above all FRESH. Excellent price, we got a coke, a water, a hot tea and two toasts with ham and mozzarella with a fried egg for over €30! If you are nearby to visit the synagogues, you must stop by 🔝

Grumpy in Budapest is an absolute gem for anyone craving authentic French cuisine. Tucked away on Nyár Street, this cozy café offers an unforgettable culinary experience that transports you straight to the heart of France. The food here is nothing short of perfection—every dish feels thoughtfully prepared, from the buttery croissants and delicate crêpes to the mouthwatering salmon and perfectly crisped bacon.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with an air of charm that makes it ideal for a leisurely breakfast or brunch. Despite its compact size, Grumpy manages to deliver big on flavor and service. The staff are friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do, adding to the overall experience.
For anyone seeking the best French flavors in Budapest, Grumpy is a must-visit. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, this place will leave you wanting to return time and again.

We love dining out when on holiday and having worked in hospitality for many years we are quite demanding customers. Grumpy in Budapest goes the extra mile to make a place memorable for us. The food is excellent, atmosphere quirky and cosy, service goes above and beyond with little touches that make you feel seen, acknowledged and looked after.

We got a table as walk-ins and we’re promptly seated and served.
We discussed a few dietary/allergy concerns and once that was out of the way we ordered the Easter smoked ham, granola bowl, sausage/egg/potato/sour cream dish, a hash brown & a sausage and the chicken wrap.
They were really busy and the food took a while, they did inform us after ten minutes that it was on the way, this was appreciated.
The ham dish was good, everything tasted fresh and of good quality, particularly the kraut/pickled parts. The granola bowl was very good, everything about it was good.
The sausage & potato dish was good and the plate was clean by the end of our meal. The chicken wrap was very good. My son didn’t enjoy the had brown or the sausage but I tried both and they were good, particularly the has brown.
I ordered a black coffee at the end and it was very good, I ended up buying two bags of beans to take home with me.
The bill was ordered and the total cost (excluding the bags of coffee) was €51. That is seriously cheap for a meal of this quality that’s clearly made by a person or people that care about what they’re serving.
The only issue I’d have, and this likely seems very pedantic indeed, is that the menu showed photos of the specials and the ham special had more ham (3 slices) than what I was served (2 slices). This is a very small complaint but I ordered it because it looked good in the photo, so ideally I should get what I ordered or what was portrayed in the menu.
Attentive and friendly service, atmosphere and food, very good place to eat and well worth a visit.
I can see why this place is so popular!

I was here with my family and can strongly recommend this cozy place. I have gluten allergy and they were very helpful and assisted me in finding something for me. I was stupid and added some beans from one of the others dish, and the nice staff came running to tell me it contained gluten, and insisted to make me a new plate to make sure I was safe - even though it was completely my own fault. Amazing service from the sweetest staff 🥹 and the food and the vibe was also amazing!

Charming Café with Excellent Coffee and Delightful Staff
Grumpy in Budapest is a small, inviting café that exceeded all my expectations. Despite its modest size, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal.
The staff were lovely, providing exceptional service with a friendly attitude that made my visit even more enjoyable. The coffee was top-notch, rich and flavorful, and the food was equally impressive, fresh, and delicious.
Grumpy is a hidden gem in Budapest that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a cozy café experience with great coffee and wonderful service.

Really friendly and helpful staff.
Tasty food. We came here after reading good reviews and were t disappointed. The chef took extra time at the end of our meal to sit with us and recommended other good restaurants for us to visit.

Grumpy Food exceeded all expectations! On my first visit, I indulged in their Hungary pancake, and oh my, it was a taste sensation! The flavors were exquisite, leaving me craving more. Impressed by the quality and service, I returned the next day for their Big Boys Breakfast, and it was phenomenal. Not only do they serve the perfect cup of coffee, but their staff is incredibly friendly. The prices are reasonable, making it a steal for the exceptional experience they provide. Whether it's breakfast, brunch, or dinner, Grumpy Food delivers deliciousness with a side of fun and fantastic service. Highly recommend!❤️❤️❤️

Amazing spot for brunch - the American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup are lovely and you get so much of both! We only had to wait a few minutes for a table and it was worth it. The atmosphere is lovely and the service was great too. Good value for money - we had 2 mains, 2 juices and 2 hot drinks and it came to under £25.

I wish we had found this place earlier in our stay. I went there with my 3 friends yesterday, the food was fantastic and couldn’t have been better but it was the people that made this place so memorable for me. It was my birthday yesterday and myself and friends were given a complimentary glass of Prosecco. The staff/owners were incredibly welcoming and friendly, the food is cooked in the same room and it was just wonderful to see the chef’s passion for cooking. I would highly recommend this lovely place

The food was delicious. They have just enough choices to satisfy anyone. We ordered mimosa, water, coffee, eggs with pesto and croissant each and we almost could not even finish it. Great food for a reasonable price. And that was not even the best part. The thing we enjoyed to most was the stuff with their great attitude. So helpful and always smiling. Definitely visit, if you wanna have breakfast in Budapest!

We found Grumpys on our last morning/day of our holiday to Budapest and we were gutted, the service, the coffee, the beer (yup for breakfast!) and the food was amazing. When we come back to Budapest we'll be visiting you guys as soon as we land!

We had done our research before visiting Budapest. We so wanted to visit here. It wasn't that close to where we were staying, but I was determined to find this gem of a place. On our last day we were out of our accommodation at 10 am and we decided to go to Grumpy for breakfast. My hubby is affectionately known as Grumpy - another reason to attend. I need to say how wonderful the experience was. From the moment we arrived at the cafe / restaurant, we were made welcome and seated immediately. We ordered our breakfast and fresh orange juice. We had craved a decent cup of tea all week. We offered the most comprehensive range of tea ever. Our breakfast arrived, piping hot and much care and attention to presentation. It was absolutely beautiful. Tasty and filling. The owner - chef came to the table to check if the food and experience were on point. I could not fault the experience and told her we were amazed at the place, and we wished we had found it earlier on our stay. Thank you for the beautiful complimentary raspberry doughnut. We recommend highly and wish you every success in the future.
