Welcoming staff (some speak a little Italian) and good food, Hungarian type, mainly based on meat and vegetables but perhaps a little too spicy for my tastes. Generous portions. To tell the truth we were served a little slowly and for a place of this type the bill wasn't exactly cheap, especially the drinks

Rustico offers a cosy, rustic charm that immediately makes you feel at home. The ambience is authentically Hungarian, with a welcoming vibe that sets the tone for a memorable meal. The food is both tasty and true to local flavours, making it a delightful experience for anyone looking to savour traditional dishes. With generous portions and reasonable prices, Rustico delivers excellent value for money—perfect for those wanting a genuine taste of Hungary without breaking the bank.

Having just visited Budapest, I have to say how glad I feel we found this restaurant. We visited twice and each time was a joy. The staff were incredibly friendly and gave great advice regarding what drinks to have. The restaurant is decorated with loads of rustic items and the overall vibe of the place is warm and inviting. The menu has lots of local dishes but a few ‘international’ dishes too. In our 2 visits we had a sharing platter, goulash soup, stews, ribs with fries and even an apple dessert. All the food was delicious. We had beer, wine and some local liqueurs too. We even had a complimentary round of local Palinka. To complement all this, there’s a violinist walking around the restaurant playing tunes upon request, accompanied by a guy playing a Cimbalom (I didn’t know what it was either… thank you Google) Each time we paid, the bill was pleasantly smaller than expected. Always a bonus. Would I recommend this place? Of course I would. It’s amazing.

We happened by chance in this restaurant, from outside a beautiful impression, entered into a very particular environment Hungarian style, we ordered a mushroom soup, and a chicken soup, for the choice of wine we relied on a pinot noir from the price of 23 euros, the guy brings us two beautiful wine glasses, and at some point instead of pulling the cork from the bottle, I realize that it was an aluminum screw cap, whatever 'pour me the wine as usual for tasting, and after tasting it was horrible to say that in the picture you could not understand that the bottle had the screw cap I would never take it because usually these wines are in the supermarket for two euros, I asked him if he could bring me another type of wine with the cork, and he brought another Hungarian brand, very good but costing 40 euros. Ok it's fine for wine but we want to talk about soups? Have you ever eaten soups with cream? I didn't like them, whatever, and a matter of taste, but I felt I had been teased as if I was an unprepared whole scene of the wine serving as who knows what I had to drink, and he was giving me a chofeca, promptly refused, not to mention the violin musician stuck like glue to each table. All this 2 SOUPS , A bottle of wine that I saw on the internet and costs ten euros, a salad, the bread that you pay separately, total euro 100. It's all right to pay that price but taking the piss.... I can't stand wine.

Food grossly overpriced for what you get and overall lacked any flavor. Took 15 minutes for waiter to come to our table to start with drinks. Once food delivered, we never saw our waiter again until we had to flag a different server down to get the tab. Our waiter returned and then acted shocked when he asked for a tip for his service and was flatly told “no” from us. Terrible experience. The medium rare steak was rare at best.

We stumbled upon this darling family owned restaurant while strolling and shopping near our hotel. We were greeted by their lovely hostess and welcomed in to an air conditioned space decorated with a huge collection of antiques and tchotchkes collected and displayed to create a homey and quaint space. Our server, Imi had great suggestions for food and beverages. Everyone was friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. We enjoyed the time chatting with him and the other servers and learning about the cuisine. It was one of the best meals we had in Budapest. Down to earth, authentic and delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner or for a break from the heat while shopping. Have a limoncello spritz!

It is very beautiful, decorated in traditional style and very clean. The food was delicious but very expensive. Specifically we got a gulas soup that was quite thin, a mushroom soup, a sausage dish that only had a large sausage with a little cabbage and mustard and a snack of potatoes quite large and two barrels of beer. We also asked for a bottle of water twice and they brought us glass which was filled and not bottled and we were charged normally. In total we paid 70€.

We ate in RUSTICO for 2 nights during our recent stay in Budapest. The food was gorgeous. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They advised on some of the dishes we were unsure of and were willing to change dishes to suit what you wanted, eg I swapped potato gratin for mashed potato. The bistro is very traditional inside and has a lovely atmosphere. There is even a violinist to serenade you while you are dining. Highly recommended if you are in Budapest

We had lunch here today and it was great. We were seated straight away without a reservation. The staff were friendly and multilingual (puts the Brits to shame frankly). The restaurant is touted as a genuine Hungarian restaurant and it lived up to expectations. We ordered chicken paprikash with dumplings and beef stew with potatoes and a bread basket. They had a varied food and drinks menu and a meal for 2 with drinks was around £50 including service charge/tip.

Nice place to eat in a really cool venue filled with Hungarian memorabilia. We ate stew (could’ve been a little hotter) and schnitzels. Food was nice. Our waiter Tamas was especially helpful and obliging - a genuine and nice person, went out of his way to adjust the menu for us and recommend nearby places. Nice extra touch of live music.

Characteristic place on Vaci Utca, we really liked the rustic atmosphere, so much so that we went back twice in a few days. Good traditional dishes, starting with Goulash (it's a soup, not a stew!): one of the best eaten in Budapest. The shank is excellent with a thin crispy rind and served with sauerkraut and potatoes, the stew cooked in red wine is very good. Prices in line with other restaurants in the area, slightly higher than average for Budapest. The only annoying thing (but I realize that some might like it) is the violinist who goes around the tables playing, and who forces you to raise your voice to speak to the diners.

Just back from a lovely evening in Rustico. I’m visiting Budapest by myself and I liked the cosy look of this restaurant so I thought I’d give it a go. The waiter recommended the red wine beef stew which was delicious and as you can see from the photo a decent size. He also recommended a lovely red wine to accompany it. There was a great violin player adding more ambiance and I was so relaxed enjoying my evening I didn’t realise I was the last one in the restaurant. The staff did not make any indications for me to leave as they were tidying up. I would definitely return and recommend others to visit.

We were sat awaiting a server to take our drink order for around half an hour. Meanwhile said servers were arguing over who was going to serve our table. We put in our food order and an hour later only half of our food orders are severed. We wait another half an hour and the rest of the food has still not arrived (2 hours now in the restaurant ) . We ask for the bill to leave and the restaurant adds on a 12% service charge. We ordered the goulash and it was served with 2 chunks of meat.

We waited 1.5 hours to eat, luckily we asked the waitress to do it ourselves. At the end of the service we leave the rest as a tip and are treated like "starving people" because according to them the tip was ridiculous. We paid 300,000 forints crazy bill to avoid

Restaurant is in a tourist area with prices that reflect that fact. However, there was a really good selection of local Hungarian dishes - Goulash, Paprika stew, local dumplings etc. Our selections were actually really good - generous portions, beautifully cooked and presented. We even had a traditional violin player keeping us entertained. Probably not a destination restaurant but if you are passing its worth stopping in. Seems to be run by generations of the same family and the service was pretty good as was the selection of beers and wines.
