We reached here to have late breakfast, though the restaurant is huge certain sections were closed stating that they needed to get prepared for lunch... so we had to wait and then after being seated we were told that the breakfast section closes by 12:00 am so hurry with our ordering. It’s another thing that after the order we had to wait till my omelette could turn up, the strudels came immediately but were cold to have.
Overall the service wasn’t good nor the strudel to our liking. The only thing good was the Omelette.

Thank you for choosing us and thank you for sharing your review with us on TripAdvisor.
We're sorry to read about your negative experience, please accept our sincere apologies in the matter.
We did have a large group reservation for an early lunch when you happened upon our restaurant, because of their previous booking their seats were saved.
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee immediate seating for everyone as our restaurants' maximum capacity is 100 pax.
While it is stated on our menus and menu boards, if your waiter had neglected to mention our breakfast time frame of 9:30 to 12:00 we are very sorry and will make sure it does not happen again. In no way would we want our guests to feel rushed or unwelcome, please know that your feedback and your comments have been discussed at length with the responsible team leader to prevent this from happening again.
Should you ever decide to give us a second chance we would love to prove that we can do better!
Best Wishes,
Strudel House

We followed some friends here. They had already ordered. On the basis of their order we ordered the same. The hot drinks came up quickly. We waited an age for our food, then before we received it the waiter took our cutlery away. We pointed out that we had not actually eatend yet. He checked on our food and a little later a barely warm omlete was delivered that looked nothing like the equivalent dish ordered by our friends. Very dry and underwhelming.

We happened to discover the restaurant "First Strudel House of Pest" on our way back from the Christmas Market near St. Stephen's Basilica, we peeked inside and liked the place.
Our goal was a dinner packed with strudel from the great selection we saw inside.
We walked in and we were welcomed by a very nice waiter.
Since we are "Dilated Carnivores" we asked for an explanation about the meat dishes on the menu, one dish caught our eyes, “Mixed meat for two”.
We ordered a first course of green salad and shrimps for my wife and Fuagra for me.
Both dishes were excellent.
In preparation for the main course, the waiter put a serving table at our table, and on this table, he placed one of the most amazing meat dishes we have ever seen (you are welcome to see the pictures I have add).
We devoured the meat which was excellent and prepared in the best way possible.
In one word "AMAZING".
We have no room left for strudels anymore.
We tasted the strudels two evenings later "amazing".
Great restaurant "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED".

Despite the attractive building this was very disappointing. We dropped in for lunch - my husband's goulash soup was hot but my chicken soup was barely warm and the bread was dry. Our strudels were average and although the service was polite it was perfunctory. Aimed squarely at tourists - hence no locals and no atmosphere.

Thank you for choosing us and thank you for your review!
I am truly sorry to read about your experience and that we did not met your expectations, and I would like to express my sincerest apologies for letting you down on this occasion. We have looked into the time frame where you could have been at our restaurant and there were no problems/complaints from guests on site and thus our managers were unable to counteract your lack of experience.
At Strudel House we pride ourselves with our authentic Hungarian atmosphere, famous strudels which we make in our open view bar constantly throughout the day to keep up with the demand, and loyalty to our local regulars.
We deeply regret that with you and your husband we've missed the mark.
Should you ever decide to give us another chance we would love to welcome you again.
Best Wishes,
Strudel House

Nothing more or less than the title. We were waiting 50 minutes at a table with really dirty cover. Bad quality reheated food. We tried the traditional soup goulash in an unusual old and unhealthy utensil when we ask the waiter for this he firstly spoke with the 'boss' and then he came to apologise and told to us that they accept our complaint and we will not pay for the goulash. The boss passed many times next to us but never said anything.. Also Too expensive for what it offers.

Dear Efi,
Thank you for choosing us and for sharing your experience with us.
Firstly please accept our sincerest apology for your troubles at our restaurant.
It is true that we were quite understaffed on the evening you decided to visit, we apologize for that and will make sure to do our best to prevent this happening again.
The "unusual old and unhealthy utensil" is a very clean bowl in the design of a cauldron/kettle in which it is traditional to make the goulash soup. Just as is common in any other restaurant our goulash soup is prepared in bulk and kept hot throughout the day. While it is not possible to cook one bowl of goulash for each guest constantly, we apologize for the fact that ours was not to your liking. In fact we felt that it was our fault that you felt unwelcome and thus the soup was gratis.
We pride ourselves in our traditional theme and cuisine and are very sorry that this time we missed the mark.
Sincerely,
Strudel House

On our last night in Budapest we had decided to try get a table here after walking past a few times. The restaurant was extremely busy and because there was only two of us we got seated on a table quickly however, many groups were let down and asked to come back as its so popular. The waiter was very down to earth and reassured us our food wouldnt take long regardless of the choas. We were highly impressed by the service and how quick the food came out. The food itself was incredible, with my main being something i had never tried before but was worth the gamble. Of course we tried the famous strudel for dessert as we had watched it being freshly made while eating our mains. It was worth the visit alone and i would go there again just to try a different strudel filling. I Would probably suggest booking if in a group to avoid any disappointment.... this place is A star with locals and tourists!

I was a with a friend who thought she died and went to heaven at this restaurant. While the rest of us had a price-fixed menu of duck, she asked for as many types of strudel as she could get for the same price. The duck was excellent as was the strudel. I picked up one to take home for later, and it was even better than the first. Great service and lovely location.

We highly recommend this place for a great local Hungarian meal, nicely priced and fantastic waiter service from Janus who showed excellent customer service. He and all the staff made us feel very welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for a memorable evening. LGBT friendly!

Lovely old style restaurant, laid back vibe. Went for strudel on a Sunday afternoon and it didn’t disappoint. Paired with a local desert wine and a crisp white local wine, cheap at £17 for two and well worth every penny.
Service a tad slow and could be more engaging but it is laid back, so that prevented a 5* for me (15 minutes passed before we were offered a menu and had to ask for the wine menu).
Thoroughly enjoyable.

I want to give this place five stars for the incredible interior design alone, and the very good food we overall had here. Sadly the service is AWFUL. You are seated straightaway in a very, very busy place and then the service disappears. So you have to flag down a waiter. The food comes very quickly after but being ignored for a time of tiring.
That said we ate here two nights in a row as it stays open later than other places and as a said they food is very good. The first night I got the raspberry soup… and pickles (separately!) The soup was sweet as expected especially with the dollop of whipped cream atop and the pickles were sour. So I greatly enjoyed my meal. Excellent portion size. The second night I got the roasted fish with the veggie strudel. The dish was fairly bland including the strudel but my husband raved on his duck. The suggested wines are EXCELLENT but the pours are small for the prices.
Overall not sure I would return.

We reserved a table for dinner, and we ordered 1 Goulash soup and 2 main dishes. We got the soup in time and it was nice, however after 1 hour and a quarter of waiting, we still didn't get the main course.
When we asked the waiter about it, we had to remind him (he didn't remember we ordered).
At the same time there was a group of other guests, who got the attention of the waiters, so we understood we won't get the main dishes in reasonable time, following our complaint.
The waiter's response we got was surprising, there was a scarce apology and we were offered coffee as compensation, his reply was brief and suggesting he is in a hurry to move on, and the fact that we waited for such long time without any suggestion to try and get our dishes out in as short as possible time, seemed of no importance to them.
Therefore we asked for the bill and went out looking for another place to complete our dinner.
This is the first time we have ever seen such attitude, although we have experienced many times in the past delays (not for such long time though) or mishandling of our order, but in all other cases we got real apologies from the establishment, and/or some kind of compensation, but never before leaving us with the feeling that it is ok, that "nothing happened".

Worst restaurant experience in Budapest. Highly unfriendly staff, 30 min to serve you a soop that was already made. The amount of salt in the food will steer you to wishing a direct tap water connection to the table. After we complied that they have booked us more beers than we actually consumed, the staff member just started swearing in local language. That's a no go place for sure.

I happened to pass by in the afternoon. There were a lot of people sitting outside eating lunch, but there was a small free table that I (single traveler) got. I had a small menu with 3 dishes, all very tasty and 2 glasses of good local red wine. The waiters were very busy as there were a lot of guests inside the restaurant but they were very attentive out on the terrace also. Really cozy place with lots of local atmosphere. Will definitely visit again next time I come to Budapest.

The restaurant advertises the so-called weekly menu on its own website, which runs from 11:30 am to 2 pm and includes a starter, main course and dessert for an affordable price. This Thursday, October 12th, we arrived at 1:30 pm and one of the waiters informed us that the menu had already been closed. If they don't intend to deliver on what they advertise, it would be better not to advertise.

We have been twice in 2 days. Delicious strudels in old fashioned but very pleasant environment. Excellent service, amazing see-through basins in toilets! Worth making a trip to this place. Would have given it 5 stars but 1 server touched the strudels with her fingers, no gloves or implements.
