After a long career in food and wine, I am rarely surprised. However chef Ádám Mede bowled us over with his spectacular menu of fresh, exciting, balanced dishes which reflect his Hungarian roots, while providing a contemporary twist on seasonal produce. The wine list is well thought out and represents excellent value for quality with sommelier Péter Tüú providing an impressive and well informed tour of Hungarian greats among other world classics. Service friendly and well timed. Ignore the slightly austere surroundings, this is real fine dining.

The food was incredible and the service was warm, friendly and attentive. There were unique flavour combinations and the food was cooked to perfection. They were very accomodating to my dairy allergy and the waiters were very knowledgeable about all of the food and wine. I could not recommend enough!

Service, food, attention to detail & ambience were all perfect. We were greeted with a very warm welcome, and a delicious taster of what was to come with a small amuse-bouche. The food was all brilliant, each course lending itself to the next. We went for the chef menu with the wine pairing, and as each wine was delivered in perfect timing before the next course. We were given a brilliant overview of the flavours and pallets to look out for in the wine and how it paired well with the food. Overall, I would absolutely rate this restaurant. Everything was spot on and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending to anyone.

Me and my friends had the pleasure to taste the vegan chef's menu, and it was absolutely wonderful! Small portions of beautifully and elegantly prepared gems arrived in 5 minutes intervals, every time surprising us with the diversity of the delicious palette. Serving was also first rate, including explaining all the secrets and ingredients of each dish. Wine selection too is one of the best in the city. The restaurant is Michelin Plate recommended place, but truly it deserves 3 stars! Incredible experience, highly recommended!

My friend and I were dropped off her by one part serendipitous circumstance, and another part Barrel-aged Scottish Wee Heavy from the craft bottle shop across the street. Either way, we were welcomed, introduced, and indoctrinated into what would become one of the more memorable dining experiences of our lifetimes. The ambiance, service, attention to detail, and of course the food delivered a Michelin-level experience that will linger long in our memory and on our taste buds. Will be recommending to friends for years to come, and if that omnipresent serendipitous supernova has anything to do with it, a return trip ourselves...

The staff was very kind and made us feel comfortable. The interior felt like being invited at a friends house while also being served. This was one of the finest cuisines i have ever tasted. Every ingredient in every course was well-thought of and refreshing. This restaurant is also suitable for vegans. I took the plant-based menu and it tasted amazing. The first 3 courses are served upstairs. After those, you get escorted downstairs for the next courses until right before the end. Lastly, you can enjoy a fine plate of bonbons and a coffee/tea upstairs before you leave. Just a tip: don’t eat before you visit Laurel. I had the 12 course dinner and it was just a bit too much for me, but the staff let us skip 2 main courses and jump to dessert and even gave us a discount. I would 100% recommend visiting Laurel. The experience is definitely worth your money.

One of the best dining experiences by far. Me and my husband are big gastro diners in Budapest and are always keen on trying to places. Booked via Opentable and the personal message right after booking started already in an extraordinary way. Upon arrival, a nice Aperitif to get you in the mood, then we descend into the cellar like restaurant. Chef’s degusto menu was exquisite with all its 8 courses. Including pre dinner bites and Aperitif, we think we had 12 courses in total 😂. An amazing experience and great thumb up for the personalized service by the crew!!

We visited Laurel in Jan 2020. We booked online which was very simple and had a table within the hour. It was super quiet, and we were actually the only people in the restaurant for most of the meal...what an experience! We had the chefs 8 course taster menu and a bottle of red wine to share. Every mouthful was delicious and we loved watching each course being carefully prepared through the window. Thank you Laurel Team for a great last night in Budapest! :)

We were welcomed very warmly and were lucky enough to get a table on Valentine’s Day without even booking, earning to the fact that previous reservation didn’t show up. The food was amazing, every dish was expertly composed and very well executed. Staff was mindful and always on their guard. The wine pairing was refreshful and unexpected. We can wholeheartedly recommend this establishment for anyone who is looking for an amazing dining experience with a familiar feel and great staff.

Overall the food was nice and well executed, but unfortunately this was ruined by an unhelpful head sommelier who refused to give any advice on wine paring (?!?!) - despite multiple requests. We ended up with a below-average predefined wine paring mainly with international wines - even though we asked for local Hungarian wines to begin with. We ended up paying 112.000 HUF (2ppl) for an mediocre dining experience.

Normally I don't write reviews about places in my hometown but I just had such an amazing experience at Laurel that I must share it. I'v visited Laurel shortly after it has been opened but now I've tried the chef menu with wine pairing and it was simply amazing. The staff was excellent, performing a great balance in being highly professional, attentive but friendly at the same time. The menu was outstanding, very creative and exceptionally high quality. My personal favourite were the starters and the fish stew but honestly I couldn't pick only one. They were also kind enough to take into account my allergy to honey so they prepared the desserts accordingly. The wine pairing was superb including champagne and excellent Hungarian wine selection. Another highlight of the night was the "dining experience" itself: we've started the dinner at the upper floor for starters, then we went to the main seating area for the main courses. Just when it would have been too much sitting in one place we've been invited again upstairs for dessert and drinks. This change of scenery was just boosting the overall experience. I certainly will be back, I truly believe this is the best experience you can have within Budapest fine-dining places, surprised not to own a Michelin star yet!

Not my first experience with Laurel, but I’m always getting more and more astonished how this young and dynamic team manages to deliver the same high quality at all occasions. During Covid times we really loved their creative boxes, but we were looking forward to return in person finally. As at the beginning you are getting served upstairs, and then getting accompanied to downstairs, it gives a nice dynamic flow to the whole evening and offers the opportunity to feel like you’ve visited not only one, but two cool, chic places:) We’ve tried the Chef menu and one of my friends the vegan one with wine pairing. Regarding the meals I have to highlight the funky looking waffle as appetizer and potato doughnut which explodes in your mouth leaving an unbelieavable combination of flavours - already leaves a memorable experience and haven’t even started the tasting for real. I am a fan of their fish stew, so no wonder it won me over yet another time. You should somehow manage to leave some free capacity to be able to absorb the wonderful dessert specialties, would be a pity to miss. The wines accompany the courses flawlessly and I always like to hear their highly knowledgeable somelier’s thougths on the different items - he gives just the proper amount of information with some truly interesting context info. Throughout the whole dinner we loved the casual, yet elegant vibe of the whole place and the friendly, professional approach of the staff members - you can easily relax and have an unforgettable dinner experience at the same time. Thanks Laurel team, will definitely return again and again!

I had a great time with my friends at Laurel. This was not my first time at the restaurant, but it did not disappoint me this time either. I chose the chef menu without the wine pairing as I could not drink alcohol, but some of my friends went with it. Food was great with a lot of Hungarian characteristics. I really liked the ramen and the mangalica chuck. Service was great as usual and the sommelier always had some fun stories about the wine my friends were tasting. If you are in Budapest and want to get a taste of Hungarian food with a modern twist, Laurel is a must.

We had the Chef menu, without wine pairing. The food was absolutely delicious and the serving was truly stunning. The service was kind and professional. The restaurant has a huge Hungarian wine selection and the sommelier is always happy to help you, to choose the perfect match for your food.

Excellent, I want to come back. The attention is great, the food like a Michelin restaurant, the aperitif formidable, I took the chef menu, 8 courses, and goes from less to more. An awesome surprise.
