About
Hungarian cuisine from the "good old days" gets a modern update at 21. The dishes maintain all the rich flavors of their original preparations, but here they are lighter, celebrating fresh ingredients from the farmer's market. This is an old-fashioned, quality Hungarian restaurant re-imagined through a modern lens.

We chose this restaurant based on the great reviews. Unfortunately our experience was rather average. We had two starters and two salads. The starters (goats cheese salad and cold meat platter) were okay. However the trout and chicken salads were below average. They consisted of...plenty of iceberg lettuce and not much else. The chicken breast was cooked well but lacked any flavour. We only had 2 beers, two 100ml glasses of Prosecco and 2 bottles of water. The service was good but the bill was a bit of a shock. Including the 14.5% mandatory service charge we paid 124 Euro. Overall we wouldn’t recommend this restaurantMore

I first visited this restaurant 10 years ago and held a very good memory of it. A decade later, it still impresses with delicious meals and a warm, cozy ambiance. Nestled on the hill beside the castle, the walk to the restaurant is very pleasant....This place remains a must-visit for a lunch break on your way to or from the castle. Everything we ordered was truly delicious, including the wine ! The service may be slow due to the limited staff, but the waiters are very nice and the overall experience is definitely worth the wait.More

Excellent food, wine and pretty good service. We had the Goulash and a chicken dish that was like an egg roll in a light sauce. Everything was tasty and not too seasoned.

My wife and I found this little backstreet bistro as we explored Buda. Nice outside seating area and relaxed atmosphere. Choice also to sit inside. Menu caters for meat fish and vegetarians. My wife had the Hungarian fish soup and I had a very tasty...goats cheese salad starter. I had chicken breast with mushrooms and potatoes for main meal and my wife had the spinach potage with breaded boiled eggs. Food was well presented and reasonably priced. As with most restaurants there is a standard 14pc service charge added (which is stated on the menu if guests actually take the time to read it). An enjoyable meal. Thank you 21.More

We came along this restaurant by chance and decided to have a light lunch. Wow the goulash soup had the most amazing flavours as did the fish soup. The best meal we have had in Budapest

We were looking for a traditional Hungarian restaurant near the Hilton in the Castle district for our 45th anniversary, and it was everything we hoped for. The food and service were great. I highly recommend it. From the Goulash soup to Chicken Paprikash all were...just like my wife's hungarian grandmother used to make.More

Good food, but terrible and slow service. Waited and waited for our menus, and then our food, and then our bill. Waiter never filled water And, finally, waiter lied to us about tipping after the bill already included a service fee from the restaurant.

Stopped in for lunch the other day with our son and niece (who lives here). Nice outdoor cafe near the church with lots of interesting stuff to choose from. We ordered a bunch of stuff which we liked, and according to our niece, was good,...since she's had Hungarian food for over a year now. We started with the hortobagy chicken pancake, which was really good. Two of us had the chicken paprikas, which was one of the better ones my niece has had. The chicken Kiev and eszterhazy lamb were also really good. The service was pretty good and the prices (accroding to our niece) were normal for the touristy hill area. They do add a service charge, and the family that owns this place aslo owns a bunch of other restaurants that given the option, we'd try.More

It was our first night in Budapest and we asked our concierge for a local restaurant with traditional Hungarian food. He recommended 21 and we were not disappointed. Our waiter, Adam, discussed the menu and advised us towards local selections. Everything was a hit. I...couldn’t imagine a better dining experience and Adam was very knowledgeable.More
