About
Hungarian cuisine from the "good old days" gets a modern update at 21. The dishes maintain all the rich flavors of their original preparations, but here they are lighter, celebrating fresh ingredients from the farmer's market. This is an old-fashioned, quality Hungarian restaurant re-imagined through a modern lens.

Visited with family for drinks. Extremely hot heatwave so we wanted to stop for cold drinks. I asked if we could sit near the roadside in a more shaded area only to be snapped at and told “no” before the rude waiter took away the...cutlery by the table close to the public walkway. No explanation as to why we couldn’t sit where requested. There was only one table of two being used (no wonder if this is how they treat paying customers) I ordered water for me and the children (cheapest thing I could find) we all downed it then left as soon as possible. After Covid you would think they would go out of their way for the business, but with service like that I’d rather stick pins in my eyes whilst watching paint dry for 48 months! No thank you! Won’t be recommending but will gladly give my opinion across all social media platforms.More

I wanted to give it a try since it had so many good reviews and close to our stay. unfortunatey for us it was not such a good experience. the food was average but prices are steep ,the service was ok at best with the...waiter almost being bothered that he had to serve us,but I can't complain about the second one who was indeed really friendly.More

The best place we ate it while in Budapest, and a 3 minute walk from the Hilton Budapest. This bistro had a great atmosphere, great prices, awesome staff, and most important great food. The wait staff was very attentive throughout our dining experience and was...there when we needed them and let us eat in peace when appropriate. I had the special which was classic veal lung stew with pan fried bread dumplings. Now I know a lot of people would be turned off by this selection, but it was extremely satisfying taste wise and filling. My wife had the chicken paprikash and likewise enjoyed it. We started with the Hungarian Bistro Plate, and the pork belly melted in one's mouth. And the desserts they served was a great way to end our meal. Wine and beer were great and simply a place that we felt was probably the best meal we had throughout our European adventure.More

I came here for food a few days ago as it was recommended in my Budapest guidebook and wasn’t far from my hotel (the Mercure, on the other side of the park - Mercure Castle Hill). I can see why it was recommended - the...food is lovely. There’s a good choice on the menu. I really fancied a chicken paprikash, so I was very pleased when I saw it on the menu and chose that, as well as a chicken pancake for a starter. The chicken pancake was to die for - crispy and flavoursome. It was a generous sized portion without being too big. The chicken paprikash was a good sized portion too, and came with dumplings. The chicken was lovely and tender, and melted in my mouth. I will definitely be back the next time I’m in Budapest and recommend this restaurant to others.More

While visiting the castle and Fisherman tower, we were aiming for the Jamie Oliver restaurant as recommended by friends, but looking at the menu, in the end we had no interest of eating Italian in Hungary. We passed by 21 HK on our way in,...and thought that sounded okeish, also would save us some minutes going out (we were to catch a plane). Very nice setting, clean and great service (we were there right at opening at 12:00). In the end we didn't really it Hungarian here either :-), but all dishes were superb in taste and presentation (schnitzel, duck breast and salmon). re: previous comments about waiters attitude, I have to agree that some of them looked a bit unamused, but the one serving us was quite nice and helpful.More

My wife and I finished our Castle tour and were walking through the nearby streets. We happened upon 21 and decided to stop in; no research, just as the doors opened. We had our choice of seats. The restaurant ambiance was very nice. Service was...prompt and professional. We both ordered wiener schnitzel with mashed potatoes. Pretty basic, right? The flavor was exceptional! My wife, who's a good cook, observed that the schnitzel was expertly pan fried, and seasoned perfectly. It had gone directly from the pan to our plates, and was served promptly. We weren't expecting a gourmet experience, but in our 12 days in Paris, Prague and Budapest, no other meal we had was as shockingly good as this was. The Michelin rating is well deserved. Was it worth 9 hours (x2) on a plane to get that lunch? Almost...More

All our food was tasty and fresh, although the chocolate cake with sauce and cream was not very special. Good service and delicious wines.

Fish soup was nothing special. Worst was the attitude of the waiting staff. Aloof and dismissive .. one for the tourists. Give it a wide berth …

This place was recommended to us by the agent of the Buda Castle tour bus as, a place to get an authentic Hungarian meal. We took a table outside and were served by Akos who talked us through the menu and made recommendations. Goulash Soup,...Beef Stew and Weiner Schnitzel (Hungarian style) were all perfect along with the excellent service. Kathy and SteveMore

Superb. Goulash soup as well as fish soup were just superb. We followed with the butternut risotto and the beef stew. Excellent. No room for dessert but we had an excellent Hungarian red wine. The service was exceptionally good.
