The view from the top of the Citadella is breathtaking. You can see the entire view of downtown Budapest, so if you're an avid photographer, this is definitely a must-visit for you. The castle district is close by and I would highly recommend visiting the Buda Castle Labyrinth.

Located next to the Liberty Statue on Gellert Hill, with great views all across the city. If you are interested in history, you should not miss it. You can still see the bullet holes on the side. There are cabins for food.

This is one of the stops on most bus tours. Which I found a pretty good way to get around. Good views of the city too

Even though I could not find my way inside there are nice photographs on the exterior that explain a lot about the history of the Citadel.

Worth a mooch but fisherman's bastion views and surroundings are miles better. Looooong walk up and tiring even in cold weather. Views from top are nice but id defo say I'd choose fisherman's bastion over here any day. Especially if you ain't super fit!

I have been to Budapest 3 times so far and each time I visited this place. If you want to have a picture with a beautiful back ground of Budapest, thats the place you should go. White bridge looks great from here.

We got to the Citadel on the hop on hop off, they told us the scenic views were good, they were not kidding. On the day we visited the Citadel was not open to the public, so we did not see inside. The outside though is a testament to the turbulent past it as seen, shell and bullet holes are... More

A must visit. The views are amazing. Walk to the very top as the views get better the higher you go. Take time to read the history of the citadels located on the wall

Worth the walk up the hill, but go early in the day before it gets to hot. Took us about 25 min (relatively fit couple) but definitely got our workout for the day. Beautiful view - good for fotos of Budapest. Small shops at the top. Good and easy accessibility to information about the history

Thank Tina P

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.
