I’ve been all over the world, lived in many countries and I’m a long time resident of Los Angeles, the world’s sushi capital outside of Japan. And this place is a real gem. Probably the ONLY authentic sushi restaurant in Hungary (and would bet serious money on all of Eastern Europe too). Chef Okuyama is a real japanese sushi master and I don’t know how, but he manages to get super high quality ingredients. The service is authentically hungarian, it’s respectful and funny, if you don’t get the jokes that’s on you bud. Learn the culture. The fish was fresh, clams and shrimps were sweet and buttery. Really I have no complaints about the food. The restaurant itself is a little hard to find and very japanese/or american in decor so don’t expect to impress your Instagram followers with that. But who comes to a sushi place for that. Otherwise it’s legit 5 stars. Periodttt.

This restaurant is a hidden gem on the Buda side of Budapest. Nice and cozy environment far from the city's loud noise. The sushi is made by a single person, a japanese sushi master who came here to share the freshest sushi which just melts into your mouth. The shiitake mushrooms in soy sauce were really delicious and the miso soup just made us full. Thank you for the meal, we'll definitely going back.

Disclaimer: I am not related to Sachi Okuyama, but I have been enjoying his delicious sushi for over 15 years. He was always friendly towards us and we had some great adventures together, when he brought his magic to Balatonalmadi in the mid-2000s. Having said all of the above, we have seen many places, where the quality has changed over the years. Not here. Okuyama-san has been rolling sushi for decades and his expertise shows. Just look at the ebi (tiger shrimp) made from very large shrimps (16/20 size). We had an Akebono plate and it was magnificent. Ebi, sake, maguro - all the delights, and for those who enjoy rarities we asked for kaibashira and unagi. Highly recommended.

Mediocare sushi, terrible ambiance. Way overpriced. The sushi platter we ordered was the most expensive one on the menu, it came missing ikaru (the most expensive item on the menu, costing $10/piece - not a pair!) We were not warned about it and when I complained the waitress refused to replace the no-name sushi on the platter with a tuna (or offer a tuna for free.) We paid $60 for two. My recommendation: come to NY for sushi, for $60 you can get decent one. Spend $60 on Hungarian dishes, you will be delighted. I will never have sushi again in a land-locked country.

Okuyama San runs the unique sushi restaurant in Budapest, which, in my opinion, is by far the best sushi restaurant in the country, but perhaps also in Europe. The raw materials are of unique quality, the amount of fish used in the maki and nigiri is unparalleled, the chef spares no effort. Appetizers are also amazingly delicious. The waitress is very, very nice and if you are a returning guest, they will only be nicer to you. I highly recommend it to everyone!!! Tip: Try to try as many dishes as possible, you won't regret it.

We stopped by by coincident, on Tuesday at 8 pm. The restaurant is on the basement floor tucked inside the restaurant row, and the dining room reminded me of a restaurant shop in Japan. We are the only customers until we leave. Limited selections (understandable, considering this is budapest) of main dish, mostly sushi and rolls. We ordered set sushi with additional sushi, and they are good and fresh with fair price. It is quite off beaten path from tourist trail, but easy to reach with bus line 9. Considering most japanese restaurant on the tourist trail are amalgamation of multiple Asian foods, Okuyama sticks to what it does best. I would recommend this place if you are in the mood for decent Japanese Food.

What can I say we went there 4 times in 3 days. Great authentic sushi, not the generic fusion deep fried sushi you get at other places. Just good, high quality food. Arigato Okuyama San! Would definitely recommend!

I wise I could give more than 5 stars. The best sushi I have ever had. The maki have more fish in them than most other places’ nigiri do. Truly an experience

I suppose this is the best sushi restaurant in Budapest. Also the most delicious sushi I have had I think before I experience in Japan 🇯🇵 in the future.

Very authentic sushi place. The owner is a truly Japanese sushi chef. All the ingredients are super fresh! Best Japanese Green Tea experience in Hungary! Well recommended!

Very hard to find this place but I finally found it! The udon soup I had was not as good as I was expecting, not as tasty, however the sushi was great, especially the raw shrimp, which was something I had for the first time. The main problem with Okayama is that the atmosphere is not very pleasant. It is very sterile and quiet which creates a cold vibe.

It was a very nice experience. Both my husband and I love Japanese cuisine. This small restaurant offers a variety of dishes. My husband is the fan of Miso soup and here he found the tasty one. I tried white pasta soup which was also good. A set of sushi and avocado rolls were delicious as well. This restaurant is not cheap, but affordable. The owner himself is preparing dishes at the bar. We have visited this restaurant on Saturday afternoon. Almost all tables were booked. We understood that many guests came here not for the first time, because waiters talked, liked they knew each other. I would recommend this restaurant to japanese cuisine lovers and to those people who want to try something new and authentic

This small and charming gem at Kolosy square is owned and operated by a Japanese person Sachi Okuyama. As a "Sushi Master" he is the head cook of the restaurant too. We ordered large sushi set and sushi with shrimp. I would highlight the careful selection of ingredients and the freshness of the food. Everything we chose was divine delicious! Great value for money and one of the best Japanese restaurants I have visited in Budapest. I put this one on my favorite list. :)

Yes, Budapest is a land locked country... I tried about a dozen sushi places in Budapest in six years and Okuyama comes out as the clear winner! They get salmon delivered twice a week. Their portions are generous and the most important thing, their sushi tastes great! If you are in Budapest and you want great sushi I would highly recommend you try this restaurant! You should call ahead and reserve a table. (Book a table by the front door as the back of the restaurant is fairly close to the restrooms.)
