We asked our hotel to recommend a good restaurant that could offer authentic hungarian food with a nice atmosphere and traditional music and were directed to this place. Walking up to the door, we could see that there were barely any people inside, just one large group. The lighting is very stark and the room did not resemble the photo... More

I live in the area and while I have been to Márványmenyasszony quite a few times, I haven't been for a while. I recently took my friends from the US there as they wanted to eat Hungarian food. I cannot really rate the food, because I had a vegetarian option and Hungarian food is really not famous for that (it... More

While visiting Budapest we chose a authentic local experience. It was a unique delicious, delightful, entertaining evening. Starting with the warm welcome by the waiters, followed with wonderful wine, meals, entertainment and dessert. We were entertained royally by the gypsy band.

This restaurant is a little off the beaten track but it's old style Hungarian with a very good gypsy band and well worth a visit. We visited on a quiet Monday night and were only one of two tables but the band played right up until we left, asking us for requests which they immediately played. The food is typical... More

We arrived there accidentally when were looking for a BBQ house in the neighborhood. Found it very attractive, clean and friendly place so entered. A very kind waitress invited us in, offered a good meal and a glass of Egri Bikaver (semidry red wine). The food was fresh and tasty, the wine great, the young waitress a real sweetness.

I was expecting more from a local night in Hungary. Music was ok. There was a short entertainment fairly good. But the food was not satisfactory. Yet there is a loval atmosphere

Something of a tourist trap visited by large coach parties. Tucked away in a kind of cave the long narrow restaurant (more like a night club) features tables for four set in enormous wooden barrels and continuous long tables for groups leading up to a stages where folk music and gypsy dancing takes place. Food is basic Hungarian and free... More

Visited as part of an Imperial City tour organised by Rail Discoveries of York. We were served as a group to Goulash soup and bread, Turkey kiev and chocolate sauce pancake. Food was functional as was the service. Interesting room with lots of historical photographs on the wall.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighborhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
