About
Café 57 opened in May 2001 in the Rózsadomb or Rose Hill district of Budapest and was the first minimalist bar in the city. After a successful start, it was the guests themselves and their needs which pointed the way we developed. This is how fashionable bar became a restaurant comprising two floors. The upper floor has the atmosphere of a conservatory and can be converted into a covered terrace in summer. It is a very pleasant, welcoming environment all year round. The unique creations on our fusion menu are replaced every two months to offer variety and these are augmented by a season menu. Delicious food on the Buda side! Normally we eat on the Pest side but this time decided to try Cafe 57 and was not disappointed. The interior is very nicely decorated and the people there were just super friendly and professional. I ordered the duck liver appetizer, duck breast main, and cottage cheese dessert and all three were perfectly cooked. My wife had the cod main and as well, perfect. Our guest ordered chicken supreme and as well, perfect. Not a bit over or undercooked. And for the cottage cheese balls, I try to always order this dessert at restaurants whenever possible, like a hobby... and the ones served at Cafe 57 is amongst the best. super! Definitely worth a visit! We will be back again for sure!

Cafe 57 have got everything pretty much spot on. Attentive waiting staff, nice surroundings, and lovingly-prepared and presented dishes.
I had the black tagliatelle with prawns, and raspberry creme brûlée for dessert and it was delicious. Definitely recommend. Easy commute on the excellent Budapest public transport (bus stop very close).

I celebrated a big birthday with almost 20 friends at Cafe 57 this October after having been there for another birthday celebration 15 years ago. Both of these events were delightful, and the one this year was exceptional. We met in the lovely private dinning room on the street level with its comfortable adjoining salon where we gathered for drinks and hors d' oeuvres before the delicious three course dinner with excellent wines. Among the delicious offerings for the appetizer course was famous Hungarian goose liver. The outstanding main courses included salmon with roasted vegetables and hollandaise sauce; some of the best crispy chicken I have ever tasted; and a house specialty of pork with a unique and delicious mustard sauce. The food was such a treat for me and the guests. The service was friendly, efficient, and attentive to each guest. Prices were very affordable for this level of quality cuisine. I recommend this restaurant for group events and small dinners. In a city where the restaurants meet high standards, Cafe 57 is outstanding.

This was an average Thursday and I wanted to have a good dinner! I’ve heard of this restaurant and that it should be an interesting experience!
I had no reservations but the restaurant was almost empty when I arrived. I was a bit surprised when they seated me in the basement! It was just me there. I was sitting all alone in the dark.
I ordered Champagne and a salmon tartare as a starter! Here came the first problem.., there was no napkin at the table. No one thought about it!
In came bread for the food; it was dry sliced loaf from the store next door! The salmon tartare was more of a salmon burger. It wasn’t tartar! Unbelievable! The champagne was ok!
I was sitting in the basement all alone and that affected the service. Much waiting!
As a main dish I ordered duck breast with risotto and a glass of pinot noir. The duck breast was OK but the risotto was heavy, salty and gave me no surprise. Wine was OK.
Suddenly there was a new waiter! He recommended a cheese cake as a dessert. I ordered it with a small glass of cabernet franc.
The cheesecake was an ordinary cheesecake. It had the same problem as the risotto! It was too much. It was quantity over quality. Nothing special...
Then I waited, and waited, and waited. I wanted to pay my bill but nobody showed up. Finally I took the stairs up a floor and asked the service if I could pay my bill!
When I payed my bill i noticed that they charged me for two dl wine to the dessert. It wasn’t near that I got but I didn’t bother to complain. I will never come back.
In a total I will give the food three, the ambience alone in the basement a two and the service a two or three. The restaurant was overpriced! A three as a total grade is generous.
I had expected more!

This peaceful place is one of the best restaurants in Budapest. The food is delicious and made from fresh ingredients. The staff is do their best all the time. Located in the 2nd district (Rosehill) of Budapest near by Józsefhegyi Lookout so after or before the beautiful landskape of Budapest you need to try Cafe 57 Restaurant. You can reach the restaurant easily by publik transport.

The restaurant is a bit out of the way from the center of Budapest, but well worth the effort. The decor is modernistic with large windows. The staff was extremely helpful and made the extra effort to make the evening enjoyable.
Started out with the prawns with chili, which were excellent. The prawns were tender and not over cooked. The chili was enough to provide a bit of a kick, but not overpowering.
For the main, I have the duck breast with pureed pumpkin and roasted kale. All was excellent as the favors were complimentary. The wine list was also good and provided a good selection without being overwhelming.

I had breakfast at Cafe57 and tried the Angus "Debrecen" sausage. It was delicious - tasty and perfectly cooked. The cafe has a cozy atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. If you want your day to start off great, try this place.

The hidden pearl of Buda!
