I was nervous booking a table on the phone as my Hungarian is basically non-existent so I was glad that the hotel managed to book on our behalf. We were told it was very popular and indeed, by the time we left, there was a queue of people waiting for a table.
The interior is like a homely, cosy wooden house and staff spoke English and German. I think I read on here about the garlic soup, so needless to say it had to be tried. My husband ordered the gulas and found it tasty. My garlic soup was wonderful but very filling. It wasn't listed as a starter and the portion sizes are generous.
For mains we opted for veal paprikash (not commonly eaten in the UK, so wanted to try it) with noodles and "baby" schnitzel. It was humongous! Both were much enjoyed but i was filling up like a tank and simply could not finish it all. Shame. The waiter was very smiley and happy we enjoyed it. Thought I'd try a digestive so a shot of Unicum it was. More bitter than Jaegermeister but helped settle my stomach. We had tow beers/wines each and bill came to around 30 GBP - amazingly good value. I would return without hesitation and am glad this was recommended to me. Often the best way. Közönöm Paprika!

We made a reservation at Paprika after our Air BnB host recommended it. The staff were warm and friendly, and asked us which language we required for the menu. We both had the goats cheese starter which although was tasty, the peppercorn sauce did over power the flavour of the cheese though.
We then had the sharing meal for two which was delicious, more food than we could manage, the goose leg was beautifully cooked. The prices were so cheap too, we paid the equivalent of £45 for three courses, tea and coffee, plus two glasses of red wine and a bottle of fizz. Would recommend this little gem to anyone visiting Budapest. A fabulous end to our long weekend.

We managed to get a table late afternoon on a cold February afternoon and it was still nearly full. We hadn't booked so were lucky to get in. It was warm and cosy and we tucked in to the goulash, hearty comfort food - just what was needed on such a cold day. The staff were friendly and efficient.

Not worth the price at all. We had the fish soup which was OK at best, then our seconds arrived while we were still eating our soup and we just had to choose to ether eat the soup still or leave half of it, to not let our other dishes get cold. We had the bacon chicken and fried cheese, both of which were really grease and really heavy on the stomach with huge portions. Both not tasty. The addition of rice to the fried cheese which already has fries was really confusing. Wouldn’t recommend, definitely at that price point, we spent over 10000 HUF on that dinner with just one coke and one coffee.

We were in the area and saw reviews for this restaurant, so we stopped by. They were full so we made a reservation for thirty minutes later. We are so glad we did!
The staff at the restaurant were wonderful. Natasha and "Frank" were some of the kindest folks we have met in Budapest.
The design and atmosphere was very comfortable. The food was so, so good! We had the goulash soup to start. My son ate a fish plate and my wife, daughter and I shared the Paprika Special which included a few types of meat with potatoes and rice. We then topped it off with dessert. Nothing survived...We left our plates empty and our stomachs full.
There is also a nice wine list and we enjoyed a nice Hungarian red.
If that wasn't enough, this was the most affordable restaurant we ate at during our trip when comparing the quantity and quality of the food and drinks.
Worth a visit if you are on the Pest-side of the river.

We visited this restaurant for lunch based on a friend's recommendation. It was a hot afternoon but we did find a table in the shade. The food was mostly average (especially the Gypsy Pork), but we did enjoy the fried goat cheese with rice and paprika sauce. Overall, we cannot recommend this restaurant based on our recent visit, despite the many positive reviews.

We have been coming to this fantastic restaurant for quite a few years now, whenever we’re in Budapest (which is usually two or three times a year). I don’t know why I’ve never written a review before, because this is one of the best - if not THE best - restaurants in Budapest. We learned very early on that to avoid disappointment you absolutely must book ahead, if you don’t then you might be waiting for hours if you get a table at all.
The food is unapologetically traditional in its ingredients, cooking styles and portions. You will need big appetites, be warned. For starters you must have their goulash soup - they even do smaller bowls if you can’t manage the full portion. They also give you bread and their own spread made of chilli and paprika to add some heat to dishes, or to have on the bread. But remember, it’s VERY hot. We never substitute the goulash soup but like to try the different main courses, whether it’s the chicken wrapped in cheese and bacon, goose leg on a blanket of fragrantly spiced red cabbage, or their wienerschnitzel, we’ve never been disappointed. Desserts are limited but once you taste their ‘somlói galuska,’ you’ll never need worry about choice again.
The fact that Hungary still has its own currency is always in Western Europe’s and beyond’s favour: their prices are astounding. We eat and drink plentifully and have never paid more that £20 each! This visit to Budapest was only for two nights but we made sure we came to Paprika twice and cannot wait to come back again. Until next time … thank you to the entire Paprika team for creating such a warm welcome for all of us.

Lovely experience, one of that must-visit class! Located near Varosliget Park, the interior is decorated in the style of traditional restaurants. Traditional Hungarian dishes of excellent quality are served here (halászlé was fantastic !!!) the staff is very helpful and friendly.
For example, when I asked for a slightly colder white wine (the original temperature was fine but I personally prefer ~ 2 °C colder) the staff willingly complied.
Salt-preserved pepperoni paste is served with the meal (lovers of spicy dishes beware of salting!) However, it is not a problem to get an unsalted version on request
Personally, I recommend ordering a table in advance, I went solo outside of prime time and I was so lucky to have a free table, but that may not be a rule. Given the large number of bookings around confirmed to me that this restaurant is very popular.

We spent hours in the local park and went here for lunch. We were just ahead of what was seemingly a bust part of the day and luckily got a table a few minutes later they were turning people away.
Friendly staff, handed out colouring pencils and pages to my kids which was a nice touch.
Extensive menu, a lot on offer. We were given bread and paprika/chilli paste when we ordered our food. We ordered the goulash, breaded trout, stuffed chicken and a steak & chips for the kids to share. We got a couple of beers and glasses of wine too.
The food was well received and we cleaned the plates. A lot of what we got was seemingly deep fried. I didn’t have any issue with that on this occasion but others may.
We were served by three staff, one was very friendly, the 2nd was quite friendly and the other was fairly aloof. Regardless, the service was very good. It was obvious that they had a good working relationship with each other, the communication seemed good.
We got the bill and I was genuinely surprised at how cheap the cost was for a meal of this quality and size.
Well worth a visit!

Not sure why people like this restaurant. We are here last night which was our last night in Budapest. Having had some fantastic food, this was average at best. Uncomfortable chairs. Cold chips. Rice with everything and my wife’s lamb was so heavily laced with garlic it was inedible - and we love garlic.
All in all very disappointing.

This restaurant is one of my favourites for many years. Good and authentic hungarian and international food that never let you leave hungry. This time I loved the deer ragout with house made potato coquettes and the fresh salad with blue cheese dressing. But be brave and try everything on the card. They are a real Budapest original that maintain their quality over all the years since they exist.

First of all, book a table and do it in the morning, don't wait until half an hour before you want to eat; this restaurant is very busy and quite rightly so. The food is delicious, the service speedy and courteous and there is a great atmosphere.
Arrive hungry as the portions are very generous!

Highly recommended this restaurant. The fact there's a massive line of people happily waiting in the rain just to get a table here says enough about how good this place is!
The man at the door was lovely and kind even though it was busy and the 2 waitresses were lovely throughout.
We ordered the goulash soup (10/10) fish soup (9/10 only because I realised I don't like fish roe! Almost just a note there is a lot of fish bones)
Chicken paprikash (10/10) and the steak and mushroom sauce with rice (10/10)
Only reason we didn't finish was because of how big the portions are.
Honnestly if your coming to Budapest then you must eat here.

We are a group of friends living in Budapest, we have been visiting this place frequently for about 20 years. We are very satisfied with the food, service and the atmosphere. The staff is extremely kind and helpful with a great sense of humour, we love that! The portions are huge, we are always planning to eat dessert but we are full with the main dish😁.
We recommend this place if you are visiting Budapest or live here.

The nicest of the restaurants we went to... Large portions and good prices for two large mainly one small and a beer we paid 12,500 HF which is about €37.
The fries are not fresh but ok.
I suggest you get the schnitzel and the chicken fillet with cheese and bacon which is our own chicken bacon with cheese filling, really delicious!
It is a bit out of the center but it was worth it
