My Favorite Restaurant in Slovenia

We return to this restaurant every time we are in Slovenia, due to its good national food and pleasant atmosphere. This time I invited 11 family members; we sat at a long table on the terrace. The owner and his son-in-law even performed some folk music for us, on an accordion and base. My favorite dish is the Meatless Farmer's Feast, which includes about half a dozen local dishes.

Highlight of our holiday experience

We cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. Our waiter, and unfortunately, we don´t know his name (the son in law) was so full of enthusiasm, so informative and knowledgeable about local food and customs! He helped us choose the perfect dishes, accompanied our meal with music and made us feel like we were his favourite guests ever. The food was authentic and delicious, the price was more than fair and we felt as if we were guests in his home. We will be back. Thank you!!!

Traditional restaurant, otherwise it is a hotel that has its own museum of traditional gingerbread heart and similar preparations, located in the beautiful town of Radovljica. Most of the food is traditional and they prepare almost everything themselves. The menu is very rich and you don’t know what to choose. Here you can eat something that is nowhere else and all praise for it. They are very tasty dishes. They may be a little small portions and the prices a little high but you will definitely not go disappointed. Very good selection of wines. The waiters, and the owner working in the restaurant, are very kind and friendly.

Overpriced with small portions, overall not worth it

The food was the main disappointment here. The portions are small and the food is overpriced. The pasta Bolognese didn’t have enough sauce, it tasted as if it was out of a can and was not salty enough. The mushroom soup was actually tasteful but the portion contained only a few spoons. The Wiener schnitzel was totally overpriced and it had no side dish, we had to pay everything extra. They even charge the so called cover charge. In a restaurant in this price range we expected a lot more. Overall I don’t recommend this restaurant at all. There are many better restaurant that you can choose from.

Great Slovenian food

We ate here and had a very nice experience. The food was great, the staff very friendly (they are real entertainers and even made music in the restaurant). I had some food for the first time in my life and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere, the great food, the friendly staff and the nice town combined makes the places absolutely worth going to!

Decent food - I think we caught an off day.

It's hard to say how good this was because the experience was marred by very, very slow service. Apparently someone called in sick so there's that. We were here on a voucher from a tour we took. Maybe that's typical here - I don't know. Some restaurants seem to get the vast majority of the tourism voucher trade. Our waiter was very nice and he genuinely seemed to be trying but truth be told the whole experience went to hell quickly. He brought our drinks in short order and then after a time a charcuterie board. We sat there for the better part of an hour after that. So long that our guide came back to get us because we were running late. At that point we had yet to get our mains. She went looking to see what was up and our mains appeared shortly after. We ate quickly an left before desert because there was no time. What we tasted was good - I don't know if our experience is typical

Original Slovenian Food

If you are looking for something original, then Lectar is the right place for you. There is a traditional Slovenian cuisine with many dishes - and the only drawback is that the stomach is too small. It is full, but the team tries hard and tries to meet all wishes with a smile.

Tried to catch local taste but caught overpriced averageness

It all started of with a pretty dirty tablecloth and without any salt, pepper and oil on the table. Food was mostly tasteless, probably without any spices at all! I bet almond sauce that came with my chicken never "saw" any almonds, at least it tasted like that... Only good thing was the view at the mountains in the north and a polite waiter.

Shockingly overpriced

This used to be a decent tradicionalno restaurant but lately it has turned into a shameless turist trap. I mean they charge 15.50€ for a sausage (wurstl) with no side dishes!!! In Ljubljana this should cost about half the price or less. Also the portions are way smaller than they used to be - in a dish for two you don't even get two pieces of everything (like two cuts of roast). I suggest to avoid - there are far better options elsewhere, this is just a terrible rip-off.

Authentic Slovenian cuisine !

It was a pleasant experience that we had eating dinner in this very nice place. The service was impeccable, especially by, Luka, who was always smiling , fast, accommodating and very efficient , serving about 42 people. The other server. Addi ? was great, too. Food was delicious and presentation was exotic. I highly recommend this place to have dinner in this beautiful part of the world ! I love Slovenia !

We had dinner at Gostlina Lectar the first day we arrived, we were excited because the country is very nice. The problems started with hot wine, it was not possible to have it fresh. After more than half an hour we were informed that the veal stew we had ordered was not available in the kitchen, we then fell back for a venison goulash with dumplings, risotto with herbs and cheese and a meat tartare. Almost inedible, to say the least. We pointed out that the dumplings were completely raw, the tar tare was visibly not fresh and the boiled rice had no flavor, but the waitress, very rude, raised her arms and took away the dishes. The surprise was the bill, 107€ which included the stew that we never received. In summary exaggerated prices poor food and rude waitress. Not Recommendation.

Tourist trap: avoid

Tourist trap: the waitress is in what appears to be a traditional outfit, but the quality of the plates does not match: ordinary dishes. We regretted following the advice to take the assortment of desserts for 2: €17 and leave half because it was so heavy. 2 dishes, 2 glasses of wine and dessert for more than €70!!!

The places is so nice, traditional. They have also some sort of show in the night with traditional dance. We found place without reservation but we were lucky. We tried the noodle soup ,the mushroom soup, gulash and the dish with mixed meat (piatto contadino) all very tasty. The sweets are not so special but they are ok. I would come back and I reccomend it.

Cheated - blatantly overcharged

We fell pray to typical trick of being cheated as a foreign customer! Enclosed find our bill with gnocchi and capapcici billed twice, whereas ordered, served and eaten only one each. As it is not billed x 2 but added again in between drinks it was not spotted by us immediately but only the next evening. Realizing how I was blatantly cheated made me very angry. I wrote an e-mail to the manager with no response! To conclude- beware of being cheated this way!

Good food, poor courtesy.

Very good typical dishes and, in my opinion, with good value for money. What I didn't like was the real rude attitude of the waitress on duty on the evening of December 30th. At the end of dinner, my wife and I got up to go and pay and, not having seen the cashier positioned near the kitchens, I positioned myself in front of the cashier at the entrance, which was most likely the hotel one. The waitress, perhaps fearing that we might escape without paying, made us sit in the other cash register in a rather rude manner. It's a shame, because without this episode it could easily have been a very positive review.
