Stara gostilna is the reason why you don’t come to Piran just for the sea. Stara gostilna invites you on a special journey to experience the luxury of authentic flavours, just a few steps from the Piran promenade.We are one of the oldest restaurants in Piran, but our chef lives the third millennium. We combine local culinary heritage with youthful imagination and talent. This is why Stara gostilna is actually always young. The cuisine of Stara gostilna focuses on the local environment, which has a long-standing tradition of salt-making and is rooted in the city of love with timeless romance. The temperament of the Mediterranean, the play of the seasons, and the youthful enthusiasm of the chef intertwine with the flavours on the plates. In order to meet the requirements of even the most discerning guests, our offer includes 400 different wine labels. There are also 150 distillates and a selection of the finest cigars available. During our stay in Portoroz we made reservation for dinner in Stara gostilna. Although this was an instant decision we didnt regret it at the end. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly stuf and always ready to help. We had 6 course tasting menu. The taste of food was excelent, and can not complaint about anything althoug the portions were werry small and could be a bit bigger. Exceptional is also the choice of wines and liquers. The prices are resonable for the kind of restaurnat with high standards of culinrics. All in all we had a lowely dinner in nice atmosphere and left satisfied. We will shourly wisit again and I can definitly recomend to visit.

On a recommendation from a colleague, my boyfriend and I went for a Valentine's dinner. Donata accepted us with open arms and a smile on her face. The waiters were professional while giving you a sense of friendliness and accessibility. They answered all of our food questions and advised us on the selection of wines. The food was exquisite, delicious and composed of carefully selected ingredients and placed on a plate with a great deal of creativity and aesthetics. I recommend to anyone who wants to experience food with all their senses. Congratulations to chef for the ideas and the implementation. See you soon.👏♥️

It is really nice to have at last good dining in Piran, yet the food needs some improvements. Cold starters (fish) were really good though not exceptional, warm starters were good, except for risotto with scampi. It is frustrating when you pay high end price for the food you could easily cook better yourself... desserts were delicious and the recommended wine was great.
Nice atmosphere and service, but sadly not worth the price.

We booked for dinner with friends.
We wanted to try the food, since they recently entered Michelln guide.
So we expected a lot ,we have to admit the service was great,food in my opinion is not as it should be.
I think when you’re in a Michelin guide, it has to be spectacular,you can not serve miniature portions,not to mention the taste, and the technique.
Why do people think that as soon as they enter the Michelin guide, they should immediately reduce portions and raise prices.
I'm really sorry Slovenia deserves more good restaurants, but you have to understand that the ladder is set high when you enter such a prestigious society.
You can't use cheap ingredients,and try to make something good out of them
You can't expect to make a difference with a little makeup and stones.
You cannot copy others..
We were in more or less all Michelin restaurants in Slovenia,and I apologize but ....... it's not good.This is the first critique I wrote, probably because I expected a lot, and it turned out differently...
I apologize once again, the restaurant is beautiful, the waiter I think was called Zoran, all the best .... but it's just not enough

The food is perfectly ok, but not as special as it should be at these prices. Thus a €22 asparagus and lemon risotto had perfectly cooked rice, but no apparent lemon and small portion. I also resent it when the recommended wine is at the top end of their prices €60, and then a quarter of the bottle is undrinkable because it is an unfiltered orange wine and not fully decanted. Service dropped off as it got fuller with people with bigger wallets than ours. A pity because Piran needs an alternative to the seafront fish standards. Maybe we got a bad evening.

However, regarding the prices, we can say that we use only top-quality, fresh, and authentic ingredients, which results also in the pricing of our dishes. Our proposed wine selections are based on sommelier recommendations, however, guests are always free to choose from the wine list. Had a great time in a small fine dining restaurant with an amazing staff and great food (all from the mountains to the coast). We were having a degustation menu prepared by two young Slovenian chef’s Irhad & Kristian. These two talented boys are humble enough to present these top plates to every guest who is looking for high level fine dining experience.
Special compliments to the service team aswell. Owner who is taking care about every guest and sommelier who was there not just to pour you a wine but also to give you special treatment.
After long enjoyment we had a chance to see place where the magic is happening and I have to say congrats to the whole team of Stara Gostilna.

Beefsteak - made from local Piran beef, and absolutely definitively the best steak ever! Simply the meat is just beyond words. Must visit if ever in these parts.
Sea bass - not the greatest. Pretty bland and can be avoided. There’s a fish fillet that looked much better on other tables, that comes in a case of salt.
Tiramisu dessert - the dessert is plated in front of you. And it’s simply incredible how a layered dessert like Tiramisu can be created right on the spot, but it’s perfect and it’s delicious.
Some starters are also served, in typical Michelin style, and they’re totally worth it too.

We spend a nice evening and enjoy in a beautiful and romantic interrior of the restaurant. Small but uniqe restaurant in the middle of the medditteranian streets of Piran gave us new tastes and perspectives about local ingredients. Chef was accessible for guests to explain creations and all other staff members were very hospitable too. We sure come back.

Greste service , all the food was presented ok,it Just didn't taste ok.
At this price point I expect about half the corse to give me bumps,bat flavours were distincly lacking.We had the classic tasting manu.
Half of corses was sour,the other half tasteless.
For Michelin restaurant below any standarda.

I have never given a review on Trip advisor, but this time I need to share a delightful experience. Stara gostilna was a perfect place for dinner in relaxed atmosphere. Though it was almost full, it offered a great deal of privacy. The staff was very attentive and the food just exquisite. We had beefstake and a lobster - both very tasty and precisely prepared. They also have a great selection of wine and spirits. Definitely a place I recommend!

In the labyrinth of Piran's streets, there's a small fine dining restaurant, which have a lot to serve you with. The owner, mrs. Donata is a superb host and welcomed us with an opened hands. Plates reflects younginess of chef Kristjan, mixed up with tradition and location. Dishes were tastefuly very balanced, thoughtfuly prepared, with high level of elegance. We had a special "only Malvasia" wine pairing, which was really well paired with each course, from starters, to desserts.
It was a great experience, that I would totally reccomend to any food explorer.
Definetly not the last time we see each other.

We visited this restaurant after walking past it on a trip through town. It did not disappoint. Lovely food, locale wine and service was attentive and welcoming. We had the 4 course menu, and was very pleased with dishes of octopus, homemade truffle pasta, tuna made perfectly and a peach dessert to die for :) Would definitely recommend this place when visiting Piran.

Finaly! After covid-19 restrections I realized to be in Piran. As always, can’t pass to Slovenia without a stop at Stara Gostilna. I was realy impressed these time because the new menu. Was every thing realy perfect and the new chefs made a great job, diferent taste more tastefull and light foods. At the end the cigar collection was enriched with new brands and fantastic new spirits. I sugest to every one.

awarded with micheline star this resturant truly is next level and goes the extra mile in presentation, either there is smoke coming out of your dessert or they serve you food with a knifeor in a beautiful vintage chestbox they always go that extra mile. I ve been many times at this resturant not once have i been dissapointed. Though there is no sea view it is nesteled between the old buildings and has its own romantic vibe. And dont fotget that the food here is delicious! 10/10 would recomend

My wife and I visited Stara gostilna and were amazed at not only the quality of food, but also the service. We had the 7 course fish and 7 course meat tasting menu. Great selection of wines. This is easily one of, if not the best fine dining experience ever. I cannot recommend this place enough! Reasonable price for such high quality, warm and welcoming environment!
