I brought my parents to Lesnik for Sunday lunch. My parents eat traditional Slovenian food and I am vegetarian. My husband likes contemporary cuisine, and is not vegetarian.
Lesnik was able to meet all our needs with tasty meals that are made with local ingredients...and seasonal such as mushroom soup, pumpkin soup, and main dishes such as veal medallions, struklji and pork medallions and a great pumpkin risotto for me. The salad bar was fresh and appealing.
Wine recommendations were good. Take a local rumeni muskat as a dessert wine: it went great with desserts.
The bill was surprisingly low for the quality of service and food.More
I and my wife were on our way from Croatia to Poland and I decided to stop in Maribor as we had always passed that city hurrying back home or to our holiday destination. It was a great decision. Maribor is a beautiful town with...a lot to offer and I can recommend it to anyone. But the story was to be about Motel and Gostilna Pri Lesniku. I thought it was an average place good enough to sleep but nothing special to speak about. What a mistake did I make! We arrived quite early in the morning as we had left Pula at 5 o'clock in the morning in fear of a huge traffic jam at theCroatian - Slovenian border. It was a good decision. So here we are in the motel Pri Lesniku and we are greeted by one of the nicest waiters we had ever met. Although it was only 10 in the morning our room was prepared first while we were offered coffee and breakfast. The man, who appeared a nephew of the owner recommended places to visit and how to get to the town and where to park. He helped with the luggage and was extremely professional. The room was really comfortable and big. I had never expected that. After we came back from the town and relaxed for a while we went to eat our dinner to the motel restaurant. Fortunately we did not order starters because the main courses we got were huge. And the size of them was not used to cover the minuses of the cuisine. I took baked octopus with vegetables and it was one of the best I had ever eaten. Soft and crunchy, juicy and full of flavour. Chefs should come to learn how to prepare octopus to that Gostilna. Marvellous! My wife took regional chicken strips in pumpkin seeds and they were delicious. The crust was crunchy and crispy and the delicate taste of the meat greatly matched the seeds. I wished I had been able to taste something else but we were to full to eat anything. For me it is a Michelin star place. And I would like to add some words about breakfast the following day. It is rare you can eat such a varied morning meal with everything fresh and nicely served. Thank you Gostilna and Motel Pri Lesniku. Good luck and see you again.More
