I had the pleasure of visiting Sato Bento in Camut na Krasu, Kazlje, for lunch on Sunday, November 17, 2024. This charming restaurant offers a chef-curated omakase-style dining experience, which made for an unforgettable casual meal with friends. The 8-course menu was an absolute delight, showcasing the chef’s expertise in Japanese cuisine, particularly in dishes featuring fresh fish. Each course was beautifully presented, and the flavours were spot on. The service was excellent—both friendly and attentive—making us feel welcomed and well cared for. The ambiance of the restaurant was simple yet cozy, almost as though we were dining in someone’s home. Everything, from the dining area to the restrooms, was spotless. While there were no particularly standout features like a view or entertainment, the overall experience was wonderfully pleasurable. It’s clear that the focus is on the food and the warmth of the hospitality, which they deliver perfectly. At around 80 euros for the 8-course menu, wine pairing, water, and coffee, I found it to be great value for money given the quality of the meal. I highly recommend Sato Bento to anyone who enjoys Japanese food, especially those who appreciate fresh fish and a thoughtfully crafted dining experience. I will definitely be back!

Authentic Japanese off the beaten track

If you’re a foodie, Ljubljana isn’t the easiest place, especially if you’re looking for a restaurant that caters for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. However, Sato Bento fitted the bill perfectly. The food was authentic, delicious and very well priced. Highly recommended, thank you for a wonderful meal 👌

The food was fabulous. Very authentic Japanese and flavoursome. It’s a small boutique style restaurant with a limited menu, but what they do offer is extremely tasty. I had the miso soup and pork ramen. Staff were also friendly.

We have eaten two lunch menus (salmon teriyaki) and a few pices of maki sushi. Everything was beautifully made and it was delicious as well as fresh. Can't wait to go back and order sushi for my main course. Great service.

I have been going to Japanese restaurants all over the world since I was very young and have to say we really enjoyed. Small place kind of hidden away, nice atmosphere. A simple menu with top authentic quality. Would go back for sure.

A very good Japanese restaurant in Ljubljana

Excellent Japanese restaurant near downtown Ljubljana. The place is a bit unusual (it is inside an office building) but the food is very good. The cold chicken soba salad, under 10 euros, is a delight.

This is what i would imagine getting in a real japanese restaurant. Really good ramen, sushi and my favorite is by far the bentos. I wish the price was a bit cheaper and a better environment. Overall a pleasant experience.

Hi! Thank you so much for your visit and your lovely review! We're happy that you've tried and enjoyed so many of our Japanese specialties in Sato Bento. We choose our ingredients and suppliers carefully and there's a lot of working hours and effort involved in the making of everything (most things are made from scratch) and it all certainly adds to the cost. As for the environment, we've learned to love our different-era-time-warp building and try to make it more enjoyable with little changes all the time:) Thank you and hope to see you again soon!

Terrible Service and Unprofessional Staff - Not Recommended

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. Our group of eight, including an international lecturer who had been recommended the restaurant for its Japanese cuisine, arrived and were met with unprofessional and rude service. Despite there being plenty of empty tables, the first waitress we approached informed us that we could not be seated because they did not have enough staff. When I politely explained that we were willing to wait and had ample time, she dismissed us and walked away. As we discussed our next steps, another waitress approached us and kindly offered to check if there was a table available for us. However, the first waitress returned and proceeded to berate and scold the second waitress for even considering seating us, despite her earlier refusal. Feeling disheartened and disrespected, we left the restaurant without even trying the food. To make matters worse, shortly after our departure, a smaller group of female diners arrived and were promptly seated and served without any issues. This level of poor service is simply unacceptable. The unprofessional behavior of the staff left a bad impression on our entire group, and we were extremely disappointed with the overall experience. I will be leaving a negative review for this restaurant, highlighting the poor treatment we received from the staff. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.

My friend recommended it, and took me there, but it was highly disappointing. We made a reservation but the waitress said she just gave that table away, and we had to sit at a table that was so extremely cold that I was basically frozen after I finished my lunch,
