All reviews porcini lamb shank potato salad trout octopus seafood filet seasoned to perfection slovenian wines food and wine a great evening fabulous meal excellent food local cuisine amazing restaurant kind staff great wine
Had done some research and found the Old Cellar to be number 1 in the Lake Bled area. Emailed them a week before to book a table... super quick reply. Arrived for dinner.. lovely table reserved in a great atmosphere. Staff attentive and knowledgeable. Menu...it all sounded good and was hard to pick. Food out of this world... we both had 3 courses (I don't usually eat pudding) and couldn't fault any of it. Wine perfectly paired with the meal and all local... even better. My friend said it was the best meal she had ever had. She went and spoke to the chefs afterward to pass on much deserved praise and the smiles on their faces said it all. Beautiful family run place who go the extra mile... hands down recommend.More
My husband booked this restaurant for 7 of us for my 70th birthday celebration. He could not have made a better choice. We are on holiday from England and Germany with family, 3 of whom are vegetarian. The complimentary amuse bouche was meat based and...the waiter quickly brought out something else for them. The food and wine were all local and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choice. The service and ambience was excellent. I cannot fault this restaurant and would highly recommend it to anyone, it was excellent value for money too! We ate in the outside area but had a look around the house and cellar - amazing!More
We booked this restaurant on the basis of the reviews on trip advisor and we are so very glad we did. The restaurant is in a 500 year old building and is beautifully finished inside. The food was simply amazing, a complimentary amuse bouche was...offered and we then had 3 courses of trout tartare, sweet potato soup, pork belly and river trout finishing with sacher torte. The presentation was fabulous and we also had 2 bottles of excellent Slovenian wine. If you are in bled you really must try here and you should book as the restaurant was full. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food and wine and attentive without being intrusive- all in all a great evening.More
Old cellar has a wonderful menu with all local produce and locally sourced and produce wines. The service was amazing and the atmosphere is serene.
If only we had more time we would have gone back again and again to try everything else on the...menu.More
This an absolute must do. Gogo and staff were friendly, knowledgeable and absolutely exceptional. Food - best of our trip. Wine - perfectly matched and amazing. Atmosphere - felt unique and exotic. It is the oldest farm in bled and felt like it. Make your...reservation and go. The BEST!!More
Travelling with coeliac disease means its challenging to find somewhere to eat with good gluten free options. We contacted Old Cellar Bled in advance and were delighted when they let us know that they had many options! We sat out on a lovely little terrace...and the service, food & wine was excellent.More
We sat outside on a lovely terrace. Our waiter was excellent and did a great job despite telling us they were understaffed. I had the sea bass which was excellent and my husband had the lamb shanks which he said were the best he’d ever...had .More
This restaurant was already on our radar when we arrived in Bled for a 4 night stay as it was well reviewed and within easy walking distance of our accommodation.
On the first night we hadn't made a reservation, which seemed to somewhat disappoint the...owner, but we were nonetheless granted a table. The restaurant is situated in a fine stone building and is divided inside into several small and characterful areas. It's very close to the centre of Bled but seems a world away from the glitzy core of the town.
The proprietor, who evidently came to the restaurant trade after a career that led him to other countries, is clearly passionate about presenting local cuisine and promoting Slovenian wines. He is energetic and very visibly in charge, running a tight ship.
The menu is compact, as you would expect for a relatively small restaurant that serves tasty, freshly made food of good quality. On the first visit my starter was a smooth cauliflower soup followed by a filling plate of chicken breast served with potato and pea puree. The second time I chose slow cooked pork belly with buckwheat dumplings and parsnip mash and it was excellent.
The wine list is fascinating but I would have been choosing at random given the unfamiliar names and grape varieties if eager help from the waiting staff wasn't readily to hand.
I guess for a fairly expensive town the cost of the meals wasn't too bad but, at almost EUR 100, our second meal there turned out to be our most expensive meal of a 2 week trip to Slovenia and Austria during which we ate consistently well.More
A newer restaurant that has some great reviews. Decided to try it. Entry can be a little confusing because the desk is for the rooms and the restaurant staff must come up accommodate. The menu has some interesting dishes. I had the porcini cappuccino, which...is basically a bisque, then roast pork shank. Both were very good. The shank was tender, but lacked some flavor, luckily it was accompanied by a sauce. The wine selection is vast, but to me, it seemed that some bottles had been open for too long and started to go. Better to order the most popular wines to get fresh stock. Service was adequate, it seems to be a mostly tourist spot. I may return, but would have to check out other eateries first.More
