Epoka is located in one corner of the building that houses Raffles Hotel (see separate review) and has been designed to an equally high standard with a very distinctive interior that fits with its unique ethos to remind everyone of the origins and grandeur of...Polish cuisine from bygone eras that might otherwise be forgotten. Indeed, this rich, royal style of cuisine which is very much French in many ways, makes for a special evening that is million miles away from the heavy Russian influences that are what most people would probably associate with Polish cuisine of the late 19th and 20th century. This journey through time makes for a didactic experience as one is almost transported to the dinner table in some mystical court of days long gone by. The dishes are all complex and comprise multiple elements which were typically presented as "side dishes" to the main dish. Of particular note was a dish which used cabbage in three totally different preparations yet did not lose that key flavour - very clever cooking. There were 3 excellent bread "courses" too with one finished over the smoking coals of a barbecue which gave it the most incredible smoky flavour, but not overly so, it was judged perfectly. The sauces throughout the evening had a lightness of touch about them rather than being overly heavy or over seasoned as can often be the case elsewhere. If I had to pick up on anything, it'd be that the wine pairing felt relatively expensive relative to the quality of the wines that were served. For Poland especially, the price of the wine pairing was pretty high to be served small pours from what amount to pretty cheap (in relative terms) bottles - I'd rather have enjoyed one good bottle (of which there are plenty to choose from) for the price of the wine pairing for two. Whilst the wine pairing might work for most people, if you enjoy fine wines then you are better off making a choice from the list. The chef is so passionate about their vision which is a great thing to experience as a diner - the food from a kitchen that cares will always be so much better than a kitchen simply "going through the motions". The menu here also changes every couple of months so if one was in Warsaw regularly, one could enjoy new dishes time after time. All in all, a very distinctive and unique style of cuisine bringing Polish dishes from centuries ago back to life in a very 21st century manner. When we are back in Warsaw, we'll definitely be booking a table here again to experience their latest creations.More

Really amazing restaurant. A perfect menu reflecting traditional old Polish recipes in a modern perfect arrangement. The staff is absolutely professional. I definitely recommend the menu including the "History" wine pairing. I just have a small comment or rather a recommendation. At the end, the...sommelier will offer you a digestif. I was a little surprised that vodka Starka 34 yo. it was very expensive but it was delicious :-)More

I visited here with my husband whilst on holiday in Warsaw at the start of the year. Looking back at the photos now I remembered just how amazing this place is, so I had to leave a review. The restaurant itself is beautiful and all...the staff are incredible. My partner is polish so he had made the reservation, as soon as they realised I couldn't speak Polish they switched to English and explained the concept and every dish so that I could understand. We went for the 20 course menu and every dish was amazing, I kept getting surprised at just how nice it all was, and we also learnt a lot! We also did the drinks pairing which was 100% worth it if you are drinkers. I've been recommending this to all my friends and family, I think everyone that can should visit here!More

I was absolutely blown away by our first meal at Epoka - stunning presentations, flavors, and recipes. We will definitely be back for more. There service was great and matched the high-levels reached by the chef and back of house. The sommelier prepared a selection...of ciders for my dining partner after she mentioned her like of fine ciders when making the reservation. I enjoyed some of the ciders as well as the suggested wine pairings. All was excellent and suited the 5-star meal perfectly. Looking forward to returning very soon.More

Warsaw has as far i know no Michelin star restaurant. Epoka should be considered for one at least . Chef Marcin Przybysz is a master and artist in his element . His team provided us with a stunning Menü , a fantastic juice pairing and...beyond all a incredibly sophisticated tasty food. We stayed around the corner at the Raffles Europejski which has become our second home when in Warsaw . The quality of presentation and taste is comparable with every other Michelin level establishment and i have no doubt this restaurant will find its way soon in the stars. Fun fact: the dishes are so beautifully arranged that for those ( like us) who document their dishes , they offer a beauty box with perfect lightning ! That’s why you can see almost pro looking pictures in my documentation . It’s a stunning place with the friendliest staff imaginable and the chef gave us an insight into his passion to modernize true polish cuisine and he does this in a stunning way Highly highly recommendedMore

This was my second visit to Epoka which is in the same building as the Raffles hotel. I went across the road from the Sofitel where I was staying to book a table for the evening and was happy that the directeur de la salle...Jakob remembered me from my previous visit. I completely forgot to ask for the table I liked so in the evening I got another one but as soon as the other table was free they moved me there. I started with a glass of champagne for 72 zl served by the sommelier Gregory who had been at the restaurant for 6 months. The serving was generous which I appreciated. I took the 20 recipe tasting menu for 490 zl and the wine pairing for 320 zl so I saw a lot of Gregory during my dinner and he explained all the wines to me. I was taken to the kitchen to have a chat with the chef Marcin and I enjoyed that. The service was also very nice and friendly and I felt very comfortable there, just it would have been nice to have a selection of Polish music playing since it's a Polish restaurant. I enjoyed my evening and will definitely go back on my next visit to Warsaw.More

During the preparations for our trip to Warsaw we read about the restaurant Epoka. Off course we decided to order a table with a 20 servings menu. And my oh my did we get a surprise and a value for the money. As a Copenhagener,...and a culinary lover my standard is quite high. But there is no doubt in my mind that Epoka gets a 5 out of 5 stars in my book. Although it still doesn’t have a Michelin Star, the star is not far away. To begin with we had a vegetarian in our group so the communication with the restaurant started earlier. I wrote them an email to make sure that our friend could eat there. This was of course not a problem at all. They even called to make sure weather seafood was ok or not.
On the day of our visit we were met by a team of hosts and waiters just for our table. Everybody spoke perfekt english and did their outmost to make the visit a pleasant experience for us. The food was excellent. The concepts were interesting and creative; polish food through history with a modern twist. Where we were taken a culinary trip all the way back to 17th century, and ate our way up to the early 20th century. At the introduction we could choose the plain menu, or the menu topped white abs: Black truffles and caviar. Off course we choose the truffle menu- either go big or don’t go at all. The serving were very dramatic and beautiful and the pairings with the wine were sublime. What I love about the high class pairings is the fact that the work with wine is so interesting. Here you have wines with so much power and taste on their own, but try it with the food, and it turens in to butter og rater slik in your mouth. In other words; The taste just balances out and makes the food and the wine meet in a higher unity. Starters were focused on mushrooms and seafood and although my partner is not very fond of eel he was convinced at Epoka. Me, I was just in 7th heaven. Especially the bullion’s were a great touch for me. And the mushroom soup… wow! For a break we got a tour in the historic rooms of the restaurant. To begin with I would it a bit kitschy, and maybe a bit to americanised for my taste, but after talking with the master chef that showed us the cookbooks he has been using as inspiration, I was definitely sold. But then again I myself am a sucker and collector of old cooking books, so it might be easy to convince me. Returning to our table we started on the main servings and I can’t really mention one thing that I could put a finger on. The duck was tender and moist and the idea of using foi gras as the skin of the duck… brilliant. We got served 3 or 4 desserts, at this point I was through 1 cocktails and 6 glasses of wine starting on the 7th, so I might have been a bit tipsy. But none the less the evening was rounded up in a perfect way. This was a wonderful 4 hour eating adventure through the polish history, and I would recommend it to anybody who appreciates a good culinary experience, to do them selves a favour and eat at Epoka any time they are in Warsaw. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be back in both Epoka and Warsaw again. If I could mention any critiques of this place it would be the following: 1. The introduction by the host could go a bit slower. To me it seems that the host was a bit nervous about talking english. But there is no need for that. Everybody spoke very good english at Epoka. 2. My partner experienced that the waterglasses were emptied a couple of times without the waiters noticing. 3. The choice of music should be more of ambient rather than pop, but that is a question of taste. Other than those few bagatelles everything was just perfect. So to the team of Epoka, once again; thank you for the experience. At the end I need to mention the Somalier who was such a great presenter and storyteller, and made the whole experience just a tad better. We wish you the best. Selma, Mathias, Michael and Erna from Copenhagen.More

This was by far one of the best fine dining experiences I've ever had. I say experience and not dinner, because the concept is so much more. The restaurant takes inspiration from historic slavic cooking and creates modern interpretation reinventing ingredients I would have never...expected. Each dish is an 'epok' (as the name implies); it's based on a recipe from a given time period and has a story attached to it. This story is shared with you upon serving, giving you a more robust experience. There is even a small library made up of these historic cook books, further adding to the holistic experience. To reiterate, this is much more than a restaurant. In the kitchen, each prep station correlates with a given day of the week, as many dished take more than a day to prep, further demonstrating the level of professionalism. The drinks are also very creative and they have a very refined offering of unique and interesting drinks. The decor is impeccable, perfect even. I can't wait to come back. The menu is changed regularly, so I'm excited to think about what new dishes await my taste buds next time.More

I was staying at the nearby Sofitel and happened to walk by the Raffles hotel across the road and came across this restaurant on the corner of the building which looked interesting so I booked a table for dinner specifying that I didn't like coffee...and I also reminded them about that later. The menu is based on Polish culinary traditions. There is one with 15 recipes for PLN 390 and one with 20 recipes for PLN 440 which is the one I had along with the wine pairing for PLN 280. The concept of lots of miniature bites reminded me of the Restaurante 100 Maneiras in Lisbon where I had dinner earlier this year. The food was original and delicious and they took all the guests to visit the kitchen individually. Unfortunately the chef was off as it it was his son's 2nd birthday. The petits fours arrived after the last dessert, I bit into one and nearly spat it out all over the table as it had coffee in it so I called Antoine over to have a go at him. He immediately went to the kitchen to check how this had happened and came back to apologize and brought me a Baileys and some fruit pâte to take the taste away. Apart from that it was a great evening and I will definitely go back next time I'm in Warsaw.More

We visited Warsaw from Copenhagen last week and were recommended by our hotel to try Epoka. What a great tip that was! The restaurant is too young to have been in the running for a Michelin star but I would be surprised not to see...Epoka on the list in the near future. Everything worked out perfectly on the night we visited. The head waiter and all the other staff we encountered on the evening managed to find just the right balance to give us an exclusive experience while allowing us to feel relaxed and comfortable rather than stiff and self-conscious. The young sommelier deserves a special mention. She was clearly very passionate about her metier and at the same time completely void of any of the snobbery that sometimes comes along where wine is discussed. She explained her wine paring choices in uncomplicated terms and was happy to answer any questions. Even through her mask, she managed to be charming and engaging, and her passion for the wines was contagious. The head waiter gave us a tour of the restaurant halfway through our meal and it was a treat to really have a closer look at the gorgeous place and learn of its history and the thoughts behind the interior decoration. The tour also took us to the beautiful kitchen and gave us a chance to talk to the brilliant chef who was pleasant, down to earth and a delight to talk to. The food was creative, delicious and beautiful and was presented on what appeared to be custom made dishes. The wine pairing took us to several countries and was wonderfully selected. We left the restaurant after being spoiled for four hours and felt really grateful to the whole team for giving us one of the best restaurant experiences we have ever had. To really paint the picture of the wonderful spirit of the people of Epoka, I just want to add that we passed the restaurant during the next day and showed our children that this is where we had that wonderful dinner last night. The head waiter recognized us from inside and came out to greet us. He then invited us to come inside so we could show the children the place. We went through the whole restaurant and also by the kitchen where we were all greeted by the chef and all the kitchen staff. Such a lovely way to be made to feel welcome! I hope Epoka will get through the COVID crisis to allow them to continue with the project they are clearly so engaged in and to give many other people a chance to have the same amazing experience we did. I cannot recommend it enough!More
