Great Family dinner

Our family of 5 dinner in Chleb i Wino was delicious - from beautifully cooked gnocchi to fish and pork with wild mushrooms. Salad with chicken liver is a classic. Wide choice of wines and cocktails and beautiful interiors. Prices are very reasonable considering that you are dining a la carte at the heart of Torun’s old town. Our waiter was very professional and discreet and offered to take a picture of our family! Thank you for another tasty meal!

We visit every year, in summer you'll have to wait for the outside section, and no surprise, in winter too. Simply put the food is amazing! The prices don't reflect the experience of food, service, and quality. You would have to travel far to get the same experience in the UK. If you visit Torun, and you should, this is the destination no.1. And there are a fair few in Torun. After the made-to-perfection tomato soup, go for the steak, as it arrives sizzling on the hot plate your senses will go into overdrive!

Visited for the 1st time during a 3 night stay and returned every night for an enjoyable meal each time. On the 1st night we queued for around 20 mins as the place was full on both floors and in the outside area but was happy we waited as the food was excellent . Staff and service was excellent each visit and prices are very good bearing in mind the quality of the food and portion sizes. In comparison , another main square restaurant we visited for a small portion of pierogi came in around £2 less than a huge portioned main meal at this place, which left us disappointed and led to our repeat visits to chleb i wino. It will be the 1st place we visit on our next trip to Torun.

The safe choice

I have been here on multiple occasions as it is a “safe” choice in Toruń if you travel with picky eaters. I myself do not like frequenting the same restaurants multiple times, yet I have always found something tasty and exciting to eat here at Chleb i Wino in Toruń. A plus from earlier visits is that they have calmed down with the use of loudspeakers and playing loud music in the serving areas which makes the experience much better. The staff is very friendly and know their stuff and you can get menus in multiple languages. For what it is, its great.

Victim of own success?

I must start by saying that the restaurant is attractive both inside and out. The place is very busy and in a great central location top end of the square. I would suggest however that its become a victim of its own success. First we had to queue for 20 minutes or so to get a table. Only then were we told about a delay of an hour for food. So we stuck rather twisted, maybe not the best decision. The menu is decent and reasonably priced. Our drinks came after only a short delay and then we waited. When we checked the waiter suggested our starters might arrive within 40 minutes. Circa an hour after arrival the food came, literally all the food, starters and mains together! We pointed out the mistake and the waiter took away the extra food. Unfortunately the hot starters were only warm but edible as at this point we were rather hungry. My mother’s fish main was cold and replaced when sent back. The 2 pasta mains returned but both lacked quality and freshness…reheated?? The staff were busy and doing their best but didn’t offer any explanation or apology when we queried our poor experience! So in short best avoid this one if it appears very busy.

Restaurant is located in the heart of Toruń. There cannot be better location than main square. Generally all was tasty. Just minor disadvantages. Mistake with tomato soup and addition. I have got instead ordinary bread. It was homemade and really tasty but still. In main course could be more mushroom to feel better a taste of it. Waitress could also ask if we have enjoyied. No question like that. Just a feeling to take new guests. As many as possible. Drinks should be also served first and not soups. More smile of service and will be better.

Nice setting around Toruń Market Square. Food is delicious, you know you get something of good quality. The service was however slow, though the place is really busy, so understandable to certain extent. I recommend this place anyway.

I don't know what needs to be done for a restaurant to attract customers, but Chleb i Wino does it - and does it brilliantly. There is nothing to complain about. From the service, through delicious food, to details that don't have to exist but are there and provide something that creates a place that attracts people like a magnet. After the booked dinner, we went for a drink at the bar the next day and enjoyed watching the staff work. Keep it up

We had booked a table for 8 people long before. When we arrived, 6 of us would sit on the sofa along the wall while the remaining 2 in chairs opposite the others on the sofa. We refused to accept this strange placement and after many back and forths the tables were moved and placed as in the letter L and it was better. They blamed the lack of chairs? We waited a while for our drinks but the food came in quite quickly and then it flowed on! The food was good but cold (we sat in the basement quite far from the kitchen). The wine was too warm because it was promised to be better with wine coolers. The waitress Martyna was outstanding! Every time she passed our table, she made eye contact. Very nice and professional! We return here.

This restaurant is typically full, but it's well worth a wait. Delicious pasta, fish and main dishes. Very friendly staff. And best cocktails in town! Their Old Fashioned is pure gold.

On return journey to Warsaw from Baltic Coast, we stopped in Torun for a short break and for lunch. We tried to make a reservation the previous day but were told erroneously that they do not take reservations and that they would have no difficulty accommodating us on arrival. However on arrival all places were taken with a queue forming. We complained to the management and they kindly accommodated us at one of the previously reserved tables. We wanted a quick lunch and we were served quickly and efficiently. The soups, Tomato & Goulash, were excellent. As were the main courses, Gnocchi, Carbonaro. Also excellent prices. For casual dining an excellent choice. But for the reservation hiccup I would give 5 stars.

We were very lucky to find a free table. The place was quite crowded but after a visit we can see why. The food was amazing. Ribs were tender and perfectly seasoned. Before visiting we had heard about long waiting times for a meal but for us this wasn’t a case. Our order was ready and served in less than an hour which considering the size of the order was not a bad time.

Good food, nice ambience, good service. Place seems to be popular, so recomended to book in advance for evening meal, as we come randomly and got last places available, everything was reserved. Portions are large, so order responsibly. Overall good price/quality balance, would recommend.

I was a bit worried before coming due to some negative reviews. I found the staff friendly and serviceminded. The food was great! I had a bruschetta as a starter and it was actually one of the best ones I have had. The bread is amazing! As a main I had chicken taglioni. It does not look like much on the plate but the taste is very good. The only negative was that the portion was too big :)
