About
Mandragora is a restaurant located in Lublin Old Town that serves Jewish cuisine. All dishes in our menu are cautiously selected so that, to the extent possible, they reflect the nature of traditional Jewish cuisine. We prepare them exclusively from the best quality ingredients and based on old, pre-war recipes. At the same time we care of the visit in Mandragora so that it is not only a culinary experience but also a cultural one, that is why we obey Jewish customs concerning the preparation of dishes, and the interior in our restaurant was inspired by the rich cultural tradition of the pre-war Jewish Lublin. You are welcome!

I visited this restaurant for a supper with my wife and we were very pleased. We tried some original Jewish cousin and we are happy that is still available in Lublin. I loved original Cebularz an really enjoyed a liver dish that is must have when visiting. My wife had duck and it was also very good. Recommended this place to anyone who is wishing for Jewish food experience and great service in the restaurant styled like a house from pre war Poland

This review is a joined one for Mandragora restaurant and Słodka Cukiernia Mandragora.
Probably some of the best Cebularze (originating from Jewish cuisine, is a wheat dough pancake, with a diameter of 15-20 cm, topped with diced onion and poppy seed, characteristic for Lublin cuisine) in town.
The service is very kind, attentive, and authentically dressed. Our server at Mandragora restaurant was great, so she deserves some praise.
The lemonades at the restaurant are amazing. Some of the best we have tried.
At Słodka Cukiernia Mandragora, the price is a bit high for breakfast in relations to portion size.
The cakes looked delicious, so if there are any cake lovers out there... Go and enjoy a piece or two:)

If we decided to write the review after our first visit we would have given 5 stars but after the second visit it deserves only 4. So, during the first visit the service was incredibly fast despite very busy day and being seated outside. The menu is very unusual and I would recommend the duck (literally half of duck) and the special kosher beer. Unfortunately during our second visit we were asked to take a table on the patio. The service was very slow, at some time we thought we were invisible. We have heard people complaining about the service too. We asked for drinks to arrive early and after 30 minutes they were brought with food. There was no electricity despite getting dark. We we had to use torches to eat and asked for candles as nobody offer any help. I would assume that if there is no light I would either ask the guests to move somewhere else or stop the service.

This review is for the mandragora cafe which also happens to serve the food and right next to the main restaurant . I honestly don’t know what difference in food wise will be from the main restaurant and the cafe cum bar next door .
Food at this place was ok and nothing special , in particular dish with rice and meat was more of a microwave warm up job and was pretty tasteless . Bagel which was served was also very mediocre , however the third dish ( with babaganoush ) was rather nice and was full of flavour .
Service was good and waitress was nice and friendly and took care of the table and surprisingly she was still learning . So no issue there .
I suggest kitchen putting tiny bit of more effort in the cooked food , otherwise just take the food out the menu , as this place was supposed to serve the cakes , coffee and drinks while the main restaurant next door is for Jewish food .

The food is really good. Familiar dishes but all with a distinctive touch. For example the cheese-potato pierogi were surprisingly different to your normal pierogi ruskie (delicious but you MUST like garlic) I would recommend eating in the patio, nice ambiance and live music. The only thing we didn't like is that they don't pay the musicians so at the end of the meal they told us this and ask for a contribution for them. Friendly service and they speak English. Price is a little above average but portions are good. Vegetarian friendly.

We visited Mandragora during our short stay in Lublin. Luckily we had booked a table, because the place was very busy even on a Wednesday evening. We were seated in the middle of the room, able to overlook the partially open kitchen and bar.
For starters we ordered chicken soup, liver, and marinated herring. All were delicious, but the star of the show was definitely the liver; while not a great fan of liver myself, the liver served at Mandragora was deliciously balanced with the sweet and salty sauce along with the mushrooms and onion. The starters, therefore, left us very eager for the mains, for which we ordered the duck and the corned beef. As advertised, the half duck is indeed an entire half a duck, served with a large portion of carrot and buckwheat. Paired with the apple sauce and rosemary, it is delicious. The corned beef, which melted in the mouth, came with roasted potatoes, sauteed vegetables, and a puree of parsnip.
Overall, the dinner exceeded our expectations, and we were frankly very sad that we did not have time to stay for dessert, as their pascha looked amazing. We did, however, sample their entire cocktail menu, which contained the best drinks we had in Lublin. The coffee with cardamom and cinnamon is also definitely worth a try. Our amazing dinner was further enhanced by the helpful waiter and the ambiance of the venue. The place was very busy, but the waiter was very attentive. The decor of the place is wonderful and adds to the charm of the place; the restaurant has a classic and aged feel, but everything is clean and the service is very smooth. We would definitely return to Lublin to visit Mandragora again, and hope to do so in the weekend this time, so we may sample their Sabbath menu.
To sum up, food in Mandragora is delicious, freshly prepared, and reasonably priced, and the portions are quite large, so you will definitely not leave hungry. If you are in Lublin and looking for a wonderful dinner experience, you should definitely visit Mandragora.

With an incredible location on the old town square and a large, tasty menu, Mandragora is a must visit for Lublin. The restaurant has seating in an interior courtyard that is light, airy, and charming. The menu is large and impressive, but keep in mind, everything might not be available, so ask your serve before you get your heart set on something. Still, everything we ate was excellent and we look forward to returning.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. Heard so much about this place and me and my family were looking forward too eat there and had the worst experience ever. The most popular dishes like salted beef, potatoes pancakes and fish pike (sandacz) were not available. Lamb cutlets were awful and greasy, dishes presentation really very poor and untidy.
Coffee the worst we ever had, old and stale.
Sooo disappointed

Every time I visit Lublin, I'm trying to pop into Mandragora. This time I ordered pierogi with garlic and thyme. This simple dish is brought to a different level by Mandragora's chef. Pierogis were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. Amazing smell of garlic and herbs was inviting from the moment the plate landed on the table. I also ordered a bottle of Kosher Maher, dark beer brewed especially for Mandragora-warning, it's on a sweeter side so may not be to everyone's taste! For desert I ordered pascha, traditional cheesecake style desert with almonds, orange peel and raisins. Absolutely delicious! If you are ever around Lublin's Old Town, visit Mandragora for the food, the atmosphere, and the history!

It was my first visit, with not less than 9 friends of my lovely wife. Can you imagine 10 ladies 60+, trying to make an order with the help of slightly overwhelmed waiter, mister Grzegorz. Anyway, during the whole meal i heard all the signs of excitement, how tasty the food was. Jewish caviar was my choice and consisted of fried chicken liver with finely sliced and fried onion, chopped walnuts and flakes of boiled egg for decoration. Yummy. Second appetiser was Pipki, stuffed goose necks (skins, of course). The other dishes, ordered by my friends included chicken livers with mushrooms and wine, jewish tartar made of a herring and many more. Mr Grzegorz was quick serving the dishes, because so was the cook, very quick indeed. Nice place, we occupied a table on the second floor, the only complaint is the lack of getting there by personal car. But this is a centre of the city with no traffic, so a little walk from nearby parking lots might be very healthy for you both heading there and especially going back. Portions are enormous :)

Me and my family loved that place. We have turned up pretty late but we have still received a warm welcome. We were served by the lovely blonde waitress who made time to talk to us and explain us the dishes and they were great. We are not great meet eaters so we mostly had vegetarian options and they could not be faulted. We also had some Jewish wine to make the food experience even better and more authentic. A must see in Lublin. It is about the full ambince of a place that makes is kinda special

The restaurant is located in a historical building on the Lublin Rynek (central square). It has a nice retro atmosphere and a good choice of traditional Jewish food. I trued gefilte fisz for starter and czulent for main course and everything was excellent!

Maybe I was too excited to visit this place based on all the good reviews and recommendations, but I feel it is much overrated.
Food: appetisers were amazing, but it was hard to determine what is one and more people. The best in my opinion was the beef tartare, which was everything one can imagine and more.
On the other hand, the main dishes could be just skipped. We ordered a liver and pancakes, but were very much disappointed with their quality and presentation.
Ambience: It is nice, but kind of a mishmash style. Also it difficult to have a private conversation there.
Service: It was ok, but again nothing special.
I do not think I will be giving a second change to this place.

The best prepared liver soup in my life - that's why it's worth coming.
Delicious cabbage soup with raisins. Unparalleled.
Duck - huge portion. The duck is soft, fresh and not dried.
Garlic dumplings really have a huge amount of garlic and the portion is huge. Pierogi fans will not be disappointed.
Passover - not too sweet, beautifully served.
The dishes are served quickly, the service is very nice and unobtrusive.
I will definitely come back!

How is this place rated 2nd in Lublin? Got here today so maybe need to leave tomorrow if this is really what the local food scene is like. Appreciate it is in the tourist area so shouldn’t expect much but this restaurant is at best average.
The staff are great and very friendly but the food disappointing. I had to add salt to my rosol and I’m not big on salt. No depth of flavour at all.
Very dry plates of food where the cucumber salad was the star - which says it all. Incredibly disappointed and not good value for money at all.
