Our food was good - as was the service, but when you look at the bill you realise the place is charging prices that top end restaurants in big cities would charge. The trout were smaller than average and still cost 150zl. Also how could it cost 28zl for a tea with a bit of apple thrown in? Extortionate. There are some additional charges which are simply unfair - e.g. 6zl for ketchup? Sadly this leaves a rather bad taste in the diners mouth even if most of the food was tasty enough.

We stayed for nearly three weeks at Szczyrk. Whilst there are many restaurants along the Main Street , none came up to the mark with trout dishes as Salmopolskie Gosciniec.
We ate here at least 10 times and every time I had trout. It was fresh as though it had been taken straight from the water! It was prepared beautifully and was always succulent. The flesh came away from the bone skeleton with ease making the eating experience enjoyable. The service was efficient and friendly. The restaurant smokes it’s own fish and the smoked trout mousse is unbelievable. We have travelled all over Poland over the last 17 years, and no restaurant comes within a cooee of this one for its trout dishes!

We went there especially for dinner, tempted by good opinions on the Internet, and especially by the fact that apparently the restaurant specializes in fish (own breeding).
I will ignore the opinion about the starters and soups - they were simply correct. We didn't go there for the appetizers, but for the good fish.
For fish, we ordered: 2 x trout in chanterelle sauce, 3 x sturgeon fillet, 1 x trout fillet with mashed potatoes, fries, white cabbage, 3 x winter tea. Two of the four of us (including me) ordered both sturgeon and trout - for comparison.
As for the main goal of our trip, i.e. good fish, I will say this: it was undoubtedly the worst fish we ate during our entire stay in Szczyrk.
None of the people who ordered sturgeon ate it. It was just tasteless. And ok, I accept it - sturgeon has a quite specific, intense taste (a bit similar to carp), not everyone likes it. Although I like fried carp.
As for fried trout - the situation is completely different here. Like every adult, I have probably eaten hundreds of such trouts, and if not, then certainly dozens. And I can rate such a dish. The trout served was simply dry and average in taste. What's more, I could smell spices other than salt and pepper (fish seasoning?).
Two more words about other products:
French fries - I definitely recommend the cook to change the oil :-)
White cabbage salad - I didn't think I would ever write a review about such a simple dish as chopped cabbage. But I have to: she was inedible! And it's not about the freshness of the products, but about the way of preparation: the cabbage was cut into thin, short strips and poured with some green sauce (maybe vinaigrette with some addition), which did not suit the cabbage at all. If someone covered my eyes, I would never guess from the taste that it was white cabbage. With all due respect, it's better in kebabs!
Chanterelle sauce - as a mushroom picker, I have made quite a lot of such sauces in my life. The one we were served was bland - for both people who ordered trout in such a sauce.
We paid over PLN 630 for 4 people, so not a lot. And it was the worst investment of PLN 630 during my stay in Szczyrk.
I definitely do not recommend the restaurant. Don't be fooled by online reviews and information that the restaurant specializes in fish.
I won't say anything about smoked fish: we planned to buy smoked trout, but after the main courses we were served, we skipped it :-)
P.S. I don't know where the opinions about friendly waiters come from. This certainly didn't happen to us. Okay, maybe the waitress was having a bad day. I see. But these are no longer the times when customers are asked to go to the bar to pay by card...

Nice surprise to find a fish restaurant in the mountains, where all other restaurants are for meat eaters. Not all our dishers were perfect - trout cream a bit too dense, trout in beer cake too dry, but trout in mashroom sauce was good as well as local atmosphere and possibility to take a dog inside.

Me and my friend ordered lunch, my friend ordered dumplings and I asked what was possible to make gluten free. They had a Greek salad and I showed the waitress the polish word for gluten intolerance and told her I was very allergic. She said the salad was fine and that they’ll make it without croutons. When the arrived with the food (after 50 minutes!!!) my friend got her dumpling without sour cream that she ordered them with and had to ask 3 extra times for, and I got the salad, started eating it and when I got through half of it I saw 2 croutons. So I told the waitress this and that I was very clear with my allergy and she shrugged her shoulders and said sorry in a very impolite way. Very disrespectful. I can definitely not recommend this place!

Passing by several times a year, I was thinking this is a "mass-food" place - and I was so wrong! they DO serve an EXCELLENT FISH here, which I can fully recommend; please be aware the portions are really big so "fish pla for two" would be enough for four as wel,, IMO. The crew is helpful too.

We ate here 5 times in our stay in the area. It was easily the best and freshest food in the Szczryk valley we found.
We ended up calling 20-30mins ahead to book a table and ordering food.

This is a fish restaurant we visited with some friends. We had come here 2 years ago and it's kind of deteriorated a bit since - new owners ??
Anyway the food was good but the staff were a bit indifferent and not very friendly. They had served steak to a nearby table but when we asked them whether what non-fish items they had they said they do not serve steak. They only have a few non-fish items so unless you love fish, better avoid this restaurant

Unfriendly, grumpy reception, place was full (small dining hall), waiting time one hour (or more), maybe we would like to have dinner on a couch in the drafty hall. We turned around and went to Zapiecek.

We got here after skiing, ordered their recommended fish dish (the one fried in beer bread) and potato pancakes and it was delicious. I strongly recommend their tea with cranberries! Very good price/quality ratio. You simply have to visit this place when in Szczyrk!

One of the best fish restaurants i have ever been to.You should definitely try out a fish soup and a trout with garlic butter. While there is nothing to complain about when it comes to food I would definitely recommend the owners to work on the service policy-all the staff that we encountered there,(except for one, very nice lady) was unpolite and ignorant-as if they were doing us a favor that we can eat there. I would come back to this place (and I always do each time I'm in Szczyrk) but I would definitely like to be served in a more polite manner.

We ate there 3 times over 4 day stay in Szczyrk.
Although it is bit outside of the city, it is definitely worth visiting.
First of all the food is fresh, which is one thing less to worry about on your holiday.
Secondly it is a “fish place” so order trout, and you will not be disappointed.
I went for a simple fried trout and it was very good.
I also recommend soups, especially “Żurek” or “Kwaśnica”.
Décor may not be the greatest, but overall it is good and fresh food, nice service, reasonably priced…what else do you need?

Ordered onion soup and potato pancakes with meat. Both dishes very artificial with overwhelming amount of flour (cheap way to make the food).
When we entered a waiter gave us a fish paste to taste with two shots of local vodka - this was a great detail.
Restaurant is famous for fish therefore I would stick to that and order recommended fish there.
