About
Outstanding fine dining restaurant in Kraków with food & wine pairing menu. Albertina Restaurant & Wine is an exceptional spot on the culinary map of Krakow. Located in the very heart of the city, the restaurant lures with unparalleled interior character, carefully arranged menu, and excellent selection of wines from Poland and all over the world. The restaurant is an absolutely unique culinary concept in Krakow, born from passion for wine and the art of cooking. In particular, however, it emerged from the desire to promote food & wine pairing in Krakow. Here, the original dishes by chef Grzegorz Fic present both the beauty and riches of the Polish cuisine, and the versatility of southern Europe

We were visiting Poland for a friend's wedding, and as we were flying into Krakow and had some time to kill we decided to make a day of it. One of the group was given the pre-trip challenge of finding a decent restaurant; one of...the problems he'd had was finding a place that offered a half-decent vegetarian option, but Albertina were confident they could oblige. We arrived around 2pm to a very quiet restaurant. The staff were attentive and pleasant and their English was far better than our Polish! We'd chosen the seven-course tasting menu, and they'd said they could do a veggie version of that. The Amuse Bouche was cucumber ice cream with dill and parsley sauce; next came sliced scallops with asparagus mousse, then “deer tartare” (venison) served in a bone nestled in fried breadcrumbs. This was followed by paprika glazed prawns in a thick cabbage broth; then came Basque-style cheesecake with black truffle filling (anything that has “truffle” in gets my vote, and it was bloomin' lovely); then we had sturgeon sous-vided then pan fried with seared leeks and sorel granita. The penultimate course was hare with beetroot and fried beetroot leaves (which were amazing - first time I'd had hare and it was lovely) and a deep chicken sauce I'd happily eat with a spoon. Pudding was a sponge base lid with raspberry jus. And the veggie option? Marvellous - my wife was very happy with the non-meat elements of her lunch which included fried cauliflower and aubergine with a spicy salsa, and the chef had clearly made an excellent effort. One tends to find that the “veggie option” is peas cooked any number of ways, but there wasn’t a pea in sight and everything was very good and gladly accepted. (Ironically, when we came back home Mrs C went out with the girls for lunch and was faced with a multi-course onslaught of peas). The only negative element was the liquid portion of the meal, which we found a bit disappointing. The matched wines (which the men wen for) came in quantities of 75ml, which seemed stingy, and any hint at a top-up went unheeded. And the Sancerre the girls shared (we'd said "a nice white wine" and let them select one) turned out to be an eye-watering £130 for the bottle - which frankly I’d like to have been warned about. (Note to self: always check the wine list before accepting the suggested option). And when we were offered a digestif of Starka at the end of the meal (two of us accepted) we didn't expect it to be complimentary but we similarly didn't expect it to be 35 quid a shot. Again, our fault for not checking, but my view is that you shouldn't have to - the restaurant should be sensible and not punt for the top end without telling you. To be fair we were also plied with a glass of Golden Rose liqueur (which was really good) and a home-made equivalent produced by one of the staff (which was spectacular and had an uncanny Turkish Delight-esque aroma - he could make a fortune if he produced it commercially and sold it anywhere near where I live!). All in all the bill came to around £250 per head, which is a record for us - and given that we live in Jersey where the cost of living is pretty hefty, that's saying something. Do I blame them for the cost of the wine? Nah, not entirely - we could have checked and anyway it was a one-off, unique experience so on balance I'll forgive them. And the main reason I'll forgive them is because of the unbelievable food. Every course was exquisite, superbly cooked and well thought-out - and that applies to the veggie option as well, which was as good as any I've come across and was done properly. The staff explained everything superbly, they gave prompt service, and very importantly they were good fun and we had a laugh. The food was easily as good as the Michelin-starred restaurant in Jersey whose tasting menu we've had a few times, and the price was almost identical (and worth every penny). The matched wines were good (and, again, a similar price to what we're used to), but I'd have liked the occasional top-up as the quantities weren't huge and there were a couple of wines where we'd really have liked a drop more to enjoy. In short, then: excellent food, decent matched wines, both at sensible prices for the quality, but a shame that we felt the mickey was taken a little with the other drinks. But don't let that stop you going there - just make sure you check what you're being recommended :-)More

Great food, great service. Fresh oysters, thought through wine pairing for menu dining. Rather on the expensive side but certainly worth it.

What a fantastic experience. We were made very welcome with the most wonderful friendly waiter who together with the sommelier made the evening very special with lots of information about the both the food and wine pairing both of which were excellent. The food was...delicious. We had the tasting menu and wine flight. One course I was not keen on and it was no trouble to swap this with another delicious option when I mentioned I loved anything with cheese. Thank you so much definitely a restaurant not to miss in Krakow.More

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a recent dinner at Albertina. A friendly atmosphere, exceptional food - we truly enjoyed every plate on the tasting menu, which we found to be excellent value for money and the chef was able to adapt dishes to cater...for my pescatarian requirements. Highly recommended.More

This was a disappointing experience. Too expensive for what is served. Short on options. Drinks incredibly expensive. Service average. Decoration simplistic. Food was good (had a lovely meat) but still did not justify the price. It was almost empty when we were there and I...can’t say that surprises me, as I do not plan to repeat the experience.More
