Restaurant Pod Aniolami - Under the Angels" is an extraordinary place. Some people say there are indeed angels in its Gothic cellars... The Restaurant, a laureate of many 1 st awards and distinctions, invites you to original, unforgettable and unique banquets. The place is far-famed for its marinated meats, grilled over beech hardwood fire and other old Polish dishes. The restaurant's historical 13th century interiors and brilliant cuisine based on Polish culinary traditions will make you soak up the atmosphere of the Medieval Kings' City of Cracow. At "Under the Angels" time stood still and one can still find the ambience of old Cracow here. Beautiful interiors and excellent cuisine attract renowned guests from all over the world. On the 1st floor, we invite you to The Chamber of Wawel Castle's Comptroller where during private banquets one can admire 18th century polychromes. There is also a charming year-round open garden with a mosaic fountain to which one can always drop a coin wishing to come back to this unusual place. The restaurant is located in a 13th century building at The Royal Route, leading to Wawel King's Castle. For over three hundred years the building was the residence of Cracow's goldsmiths who also had their workshops there. Today, the Skarbiec Gallery, next to the restaurant, offers artistic jewellery made by leading Polish artists.

Fabulous restaurant in an easy to reach part of the Old Town. Great atmosphere and it felt very traditional. The choice of traditional food on the menu was fabulous and it was difficult to choose. When the food arrived, it was tasty, nicely presented and enjoyable. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We went at lunch time and had made a reservation. I would advise to make a reservation because it appeared lunch service is in a smaller part of the restaurant and some people were turned away.

A good suggestion for a good evening with delicious dishes. Was there 2 times in the same week, the first time wildly impressed, especially by the good service, the second time not so enthusiastic with too much lack of attention to the table. Bought, for example, a very expensive wine, but had to supply ourselves, even though the decanter was placed away from our immediate reach. For comparison, we also ate twice at the competitor across the street (Miad Malina), ordering food and wine in a comparable price range, and here there was much more conciseness in the service. a 7+ number on the 10 scale.

Very good experience Traditional cuisine you can only recommend. Very well prepared bigos, a lightly smoked trout grilled with homemade horseradish, both a treat. A good wine list and professional , very friendly service in a (slightly cheesy) but cozy ambience. Highly recommended!!

Very disappointing. I booked a table for two through our hotel who assured me that a table in the cellar had been arranged due to its interesting setting. However, on arrival the young lady who met us ignored my telling her we had a table booked in the cellar and instead showed us to a table on the ground floor near the kitchen. It was not acceptable and then we were offered an alternative table half way under a Christmas tree. When I again pointed out we had booked a cellar table I was told in a very dismissive way that they were all taken. I was surprised as it was only 19.30 and that all cellar tables were taken. When I commented on this I was ignored and the young woman walked away. I decided not to push it further. I chose a moment shortly afterwards to go into the cellar where I found many tables were not occupied. I spoke to a member of staff who told me that there were tables available. I chose not to pursue the matter but watched as other couples and groups were taken into the cellar. There was no atmosphere where we were sat but eventually other groups arrived, one couple I overheard were also disappointed and they had booked a table in the cellar. The atmosphere improved but sadly it that cannot be said for the food. I ordered beetroot borsch as a starter. The best way to describe it is this. Take a jar of pickled beetroot, throw away the beetroot and heat the remaining juice and serve. That was it. No substance and not even a slice of bread. For main dish I ordered steak. The sole on my leather shoe would have been softer and more tasty. I chose not to have a dessert. My wife prefers ordering wine by the glass and when it was served it was only half and inch. When I commented on this I was told "that was all that was allowed" Hmmm. I would not say do not go to this restaurant but in keeping with other reviews do not be too optimistic. The following two evenings of our stay we dined at Cafe Europejska in the main square. Excellent food, excellent service and a great setting.

We’ve been here a couple of times before and raved about it but not so this time - chefs and times change. On the positive side we had really excellent service and the place has a great ambience. Some of the food like the bigos and soups were good. The pierogi were pan fried, which was nice but really dry and bland. 2 of our main courses were strange - the wild boar came with chilled red cabbage, not pickled or warm, the deer was way over cooked served on a large slice of bread and with a very over sweet sticky sauce. Overall 6 of us were averagely happy until we came to settling the bill. We had asked for jugs of tap water and received them promptly but then out of a bill of PLN 1,600+ found a 72 charge for water, out of principle we asked for it to be removed. The restaurant argued it was mineral water with which they filled the jugs with, coming from a large container, our friend asked to see said container, they claimed it was too heavy! All nuts really, it was clearly tap and that’s what we had asked for. To make matters worse our friend who was settling the bill saw the manager rolling his finger around his temple suggesting we were a little crazy - totally unacceptable.

We booked to come here as our guide book recommended this restaurant. We were really looking forward to it . At the door we were hurriedly asked if we had booked , we said yes , so our name was scribbled out and the waitress just said to follow her ( in an irritated manor ) she walked at great speed it was hard to keep up , we were then shown to a table in the cellar area, only a few tables there so not much atmosphere. Our orders were taken , we were given complimentary bread which was a nice gesture . But my husband has not finished eating his bread when his plate was whisked away and the waiter said our mains were coming so no room for the side plates … we were quite surprised by this .. as seemed pretty rude . The main course was very nice , can not fault the food . After our plates were taken the waiter asked if we had asked for the bill , we said no ! We had been in the restaurant at a total of 30 minutes by then .. we felt very rushed throughout the meal . The food was good but sadly lacking nice service . There are so many lovely restaurants in Krakow and we went to some cracking ones but sadly the welcome and service lets this restaurant down .

I’m not sure how to describe our evening at this restaurant. The surroundings were nice but the service was robotic and the food was a mixed bag. This restaurant is relatively expensive when compared with other restaurants in the vicinity and the menu would lead you to believe you were going to enjoy a gastronomic experience. We were sat at a table with a wooden chair and a bench seat covered in a rug - not particularly comfortable. Starters were tasty (pierogi) but the mains were disappointing - wild boar was dry and tough and accompanied by cold red cabbage and bland potatoes. My noblemans kebab was tasteless and tough. Overall a disappointing experience only to end the evening with the waitress moaning that our 10% card tip wasn’t as welcome as if it had been in cash!! Would not recommend this restaurant due to the odd vibe.

We booked a table the day before and when we arrived there was a huge cue,; only after 25 minutes we sat down in our BOOKED table. We ordered and after almost 40 minutes we finally had our dishes ( we ordered the duck and the turkey and they both were extremely dry). Both the dishes came with potetoes and they didn’t put even a little bit of butter or oil or even salt on them. I don’t know what you tastes and favourit dishes are but I hope “medieval style” is not yours. And for all this experience we paid toooooo much. If you want to go here in your staying in Krakow, just dont.

Dear Madam, thank you for visiting our restaurant. We are sorry that you did not like the food, but I would like to confirm that we serve our guests Old Polish cuisine based on the oldest recipes. We have been running the restaurant for over 25 years and we have the pleasure of serving our guests with attention to the true flavors of our cuisine. It is a restaurant and the dishes take time to serve. I'm sorry that we didn't meet your tastes. We wish you all the best.

A charming place where the service is magnificent The simply spectacular food, is somewhat more expensive than the average restaurant in the area but worth 100% The bottom is the most beautiful but they only open it for dinner I recommend calling in advance, we did not book in time and it was impossible to go to dinner

We ate here on our last night in Krakov and were certainly saved the best until last! The food was traditional Polish fare with something for everyone's taste, the interior was very atmospheric and our waitress treated us a valued customers. Very good value for money and somewhere you must experience in Krakov. Very highly recommended.

Very poor experience. I can only give possitive points for design, tableware and one acceptable dish out of three. It is the "tourist trap" category what I explain below. It was cold in the interior. Duck was average but very expensive, cranberries seemed to be artificial in taste (not prepared the way you could expect in a good restaurant). Borscht (beetroot soup) was also rather average - not a real taste you would like to try when you are for a weekend in Poland. The worst however was the trout. Price is given for 100g and I asked the waiter how big fish should I expect. He evaluated it on circa 300g. Unfortunately I received something around 200g (even if!) with really limited meat on it and rather with no special taste. When it came to paying I noticed on the bill precisely 3*100g trout weigh! It is hardly possible to find perfeclty 300g heavy fish. I purchase fish almost every weekend in local shop and I know how big is circa 300g trout. I spoke to the waiter but he replied that I should have told him immediately. I did not as I had not known yet what i will see on the bill! I underline again - on the bill the fish was precisely 3*100g! During his response the waiter was rather rude. As I was with my family I prefered to leave without a discusion. To sum up - it was cheating. Avoid!

Disappointed the herring was unavailable however the mushroom soup was good but found the beetroot soup very sweet. Pork was very tasty with stir fried cabbage. Our waiter Jarek - was helpful and charming, recommended an excellent red Polish wine only £23 very good value and we bought 2 jars of their amazing smalec (pork fat) to take home. Thanks for a wonderful evening. Very atmospheric would recommend making a reservation.

Have really enjoyed trying this great Polish cuisine here in Krakow as a shashlik and really did not regret it in the least. Very courteous service, very tasty appetizers (typical, delicious Polish soups) and very tasty shaschlik whether from pork fillet or the chicken. The location is definitely worth seeing.

I made a reservation for a table in the cellar nearly a month in advance. My reservation/booking was confirmed by email from the restaurant manager. We arrived to find a queue of people but no member of staff. After several minutes a young man appeared. Everyone in front of us were turned away as they hadn’t made a reservation. When it was finally our turn I told the young man I had a reservation for the cellar only to be told that the cellar was closed due to staff shortages, as was their ‘charming year-round open garden with a mosaic fountain’, so the only bit open was their 1st floor (street level room). We were shown to a table, but the 1st floor was rather dull and boring with no particular interesting features. The whole point of booking this restaurant was to experience their cellar, so this was very disappointing. We don’t drink alcohol so ordered Coke Zero’s. They were the smallest soft drinks we have been served anywhere in the world ~ see photo, the drink hasn’t been touched that was the actually size of the measure!! Meal look 45 minutes to arrive even though there was only us and 2 other couples seated. By the time we had finished our meal the restaurant was full and people without reservations were being turned away. Food was ok, nothing to get excited about. This was our most expensive meal during our stay in Krakow and in my humble opinion not worth it.

Read menu on the street. Looked appetising and had a traditional Polish look. Had not reserved a table but the staff kindly found us a seat for two. Would recommend booking in advance. Rustic feel to the restaurant. We were given bread and a fat butter with bacon and herbs. Ordered spinach and mushroom cabbage dumplings. Looked very appetising as they had been browned off. We ordered the venison on rye bread sitting in a rich deep flavoured sauce and the tenderloin with apple and plum with raspberry crumble. Complimentary vodka shots at end. Exceptional meal. Great informative staff. We sat on upper level , below the seating looked interesting and maybe more intimate. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
