About
Restaurant Pod Aniolami - Under the Angels" is an extraordinary place. Some people say there are indeed angels in its Gothic cellars... The Restaurant, a laureate of many 1 st awards and distinctions, invites you to original, unforgettable and unique banquets. The place is far-famed for its marinated meats, grilled over beech hardwood fire and other old Polish dishes. The restaurant's historical 13th century interiors and brilliant cuisine based on Polish culinary traditions will make you soak up the atmosphere of the Medieval Kings' City of Cracow. At "Under the Angels" time stood still and one can still find the ambience of old Cracow here. Beautiful interiors and excellent cuisine attract renowned guests from all over the world. On the 1st floor, we invite you to The Chamber of Wawel Castle's Comptroller where during private banquets one can admire 18th century polychromes. There is also a charming year-round open garden with a mosaic fountain to which one can always drop a coin wishing to come back to this unusual place. The restaurant is located in a 13th century building at The Royal Route, leading to Wawel King's Castle. For over three hundred years the building was the residence of Cracow's goldsmiths who also had their workshops there. Today, the Skarbiec Gallery, next to the restaurant, offers artistic jewellery made by leading Polish artists.

My GF and I visited this on our last night in Kraków as we wanted to finish by eating style. The restaurant and waiters/chefs did not disappoint. We had a bottle of Red Wine (Valpolicella) and starters and main meals. My GF had a fish starter and I had a cold meat starter, very good choices. For the main we both opted for the ribeye steak which both were cooked as requested and both were hugely impressive to taste. Ambience of the restaurant was fantastic which was matched by the service … not the cheapest eatery in Kraków but you pay for what you get👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 Thanks all Mick and Rachel.

Great dinner with our sailing friends, we bumped into by chance visiting the beautiful city of Kraków. They squeezed us in and we enjoyed the set menu with the local Prosecco style aperitif then a couple of wines recommended by them. The food company and service was great thank you for making our evening

I went about a month ago with a friend. Amazing food and service. We had a waitress called Magdalena, she was really attentive and helped us choose a Polish vodka to have with our herring (which we learnt was traditional) and almost convinced us that vodka is nice, an impressive feat. She was also very patient with us even though we arrived quite late and kept asking loads of questions about Polish food. It was raining heavily that evening and there was a small water leak, which Magdalena apologised about but more impressively managed to navigate without slipping up, like a lightfooted ninja. Great staff, great place, would recommend. Thanks Magdalena!

For this price point I would expect much more. We made a reservation in advance yet were seated in an intensely lighted area next to a group of very loud tourist who made it impossible to us and two other couples to carry a conversation. The food was was very expensive and honestly we expected much more quality-wise. The service also seemed disinterested in their customers and in giving anyone good experience as they did not do something about the inconvenient situation despite us and other couples being visibly upset about the loud tourist. The most disappointing fact was that when we went to pay we noticed that there was another room with candle lights and a much nicer decor. Unsurprisingly no Polish locals came to this place. About the food: the pierogi were amazing. The 78 zł deer was unseasoned and mediocre. The cheesecake was good.

We came to the restaurant on Monday evening after reading good reviews and it was our first night in krakow so wanted to experience an authentic polish restaurant. We were greeted straight away and shown to our table. We both ordered the wine that we wanted and it arrived promptly and was very nice. We ordered the dumplings to start as well and the mushroom soup and shared them both. The dumplings were amazing and the soup was light and fresh tasting! We then ordered the salmon and the mountain trout which were both very well cooked and not dry at all! We then ordered the apple pie and the fresh strawberry sorbet and both were just beautiful! Would highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Krakow!

Following recommendations this was our second dinner in beautiful Krakow. Pod Aniolami is a very pleasant place, our table was in the erstwhile cellars and our waiter was extremely competent and polite. Piccola and I shared spinach and cheese pierogi which were ok but not superb. Conversely, Piccola's leg of chicken in broth was very good and I was extremely happy with my bigos, it's a complex meat stew which I could have had two or three helpings of! Polish wine by the glass was very good again as well as a little shot of vodka. Very very good value I must say. More to come...

We stumbled upon this historic venue while attempting to get into another restaurant that was full. We managed to sneak in without a reservation and were greeted with the most unexpected, beautiful venue, a sensational menu filled with traditional offerings and good service. I had the wild boar which was not really to my liking but hey, live and learn. The other food was great.

My partner and I took my parents here on our recent trip. The underground vault is fantastic and the staff are so attentive. I would recommend the dumplings here they were fantastic and the food is traditional and fresh. One of our favourite meals on our trip. The apple dessert is not to be missed. The digestif at the end was also so refreshing. It is probably slightly more expensive than other restaurants but it is well worth it and we will definitely return when we visit Krakow again.

Food was extremely tasty. Unique menu and very flavoursome. I had the Steak which was cooked exactly to my liking and well seasoned and my wife had the Pork Shashlik which was also very good. Great atmosphere and quirky Krakow style. Would recommend a visit to this restaurant whilst in Krakow. We will certainly come here again.

We went to this restaurant for my birthday and were taken down to a very old atmospheric cellar which was lovely. We both ordered the tasting menu but the courses came up too quick. We wanted a lovely leisurely meal but as we finished the first course they came up with the next one and the third course of soup arrived before we had finished the second course. We did ask them to slow down but to no avail. Although the first three courses were ok when the main course of duck for me and wild boar for my husband, he found the wild boar tough and dry and I did not enjoy the duck so we both left that course. We did not want a replacement course but we were not offered one and they did not seem concerned we had not enjoyed the meat course. The waitress then kept asking us if we wanted dessert despite us saying we wanted to enjoy our wine and wait. In the end we had to be quite firm we did not want dessert yet after she had asked us three times. Then she keep asking did we want tea or coffee with our dessert. We didnt want to decide on tea or coffee yet. The courses had come up so quick we still had half a bottle of wine left! We paid the full bill ofcourse but we did not leave a tip, unusual for us. It was a shame as the restaurant surroundings are very interesting and we had high hopes, I had even booked the restaurant from the UK to ensure we got a table on the Saturday night, although there were spare tables when we arrived. I wouldn't bother going there as there are plenty of lovely restaurants around.

Disappointed the herring was unavailable however the mushroom soup was good but found the beetroot soup very sweet. Pork was very tasty with stir fried cabbage. Our waiter Jarek - was helpful and charming, recommended an excellent red Polish wine only £23 very good value and we bought 2 jars of their amazing smalec (pork fat) to take home. Thanks for a wonderful evening. Very atmospheric would recommend making a reservation.

This was our favourite restaurant during our trip to Krakow. We had heard great things from others online & decided to book. We were sat on the lower floor in a little room, set out like a medieval castle area, low lighting and only a few seats with interesting murals and walls decor! Seemed like we were sat in ‘language speaking rooms’ but unsure. Unfortunately we were sat next to a very loud, large group of people - but this cannot be helped by the restaurant. Where to start?! The food and service were both magnificent. We both had dumplings to begin and they were delish! There is a wide ranging menu for food and drinks, but don’t let the vastness put you off. We then had a Royal Shashlik (pork tenderloin) and a Duck dish with a spinach side. They too were beautiful. We shared a hot apple cake for dessert. Washed down with a bottle of Sauvignon & complimentary vodka shots! It was a great evening and the girl who served us was fantastic. You must visit. Authentic, relaxed and delicious.

We happened upon this place by chance, a lady in the queue told us it was one of the best restaurants in Krakow and when we managed to get a table despite not having a reservation, we found that this was true. The surroundings and the staff were first class, and the food was truly delicious, as was the bottle of Polish Cabernet we sampled. It was so good we booked to go back two nights later, and can't wait to go back to Krakow to sample the excellent Polish food again.

During our one week vacation in Krakow, we had one of the best dinners here. The food of me (dumplings with several kinds of meati) and my companion was delicious, and although we gave our waitress a hard time during our choice of wine, she remained very friendly, calm and helpful. I would certainly recommend a visit here!

We went to this restaurant 28/03/2022 for a traditional polish meal experience and I cannot speak highly enough of this place. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Although the menu had items for vegetarians there was not much for vegans but that did not stop the restaurant making a custom meal for my daughter who is vegan. I had the traditional meat dumplings, beetroot soup and spinach with garlic and to be honest was the best meal I had in Krakow. It was my birthday that evening and the lovely waiter brought my cinnamon apple pie over with a candle and even sang Happy Birthday. If you want a traditional polish meal in a friendly, welcoming environment I strongly suggest you give this restaurant a try, they will go out of their way to make your evening special.
