The best restaurant in Krakow for authentic food and value for money. Found this gem last year and revisited in May. Ate there 6 times during this visit and couldn’t praise the quality of food a staff enough. Gregor was magnificent

The location and restaurant itself was great, the service was also good but we didn’t rate our meal. We wont fault the starters they were good. We ordered the grilled chicken breast in cheese sauce and farmers style potatoes, there was no mention of sauerkraut...on the menu but it was on our plate in a big lump. The chicken was dry and the cheese sauce was not a cheese sauce it was just two slices of cheese on the chicken, as for the potatoes they weren’t hot and were burnt, we were very dissapointed after looking forward to coming hereMore
Felt like we were in Austria when came here - large restaurant and we were sat outside which was nice on a warm evening as view of park whereas inside did seemed quite noisy and more like a beerkeller. Service a little slow but they...were busy for midweek and staff polite and friendly. It is nice to sometimes linger and not be rushed on holiday. Portions were huge with good price point for being right near wawel castle. I had a carafe of red wine and husband had a 2 pint beer. My schnitzel was biggest ever had even though have been served this many times before when in Austria or Germany. Husband had mixed grill type platter which was also big portions and my son had a large steak. We enjoyed our meal here and the atmosphere.More
It felt like half of Krakow were enjoying themselves here this evening - the place was really buzzing and felt much like a German beer hall in atmosphere (and decor to some extent). Our server was a bit too prompt at times but friendly enough....Food arrived quickly and was fine if nothing outstanding; my meat stuffed cabbage was a bit bland in terms of the filling whilst my husband’s chicken tasted very much like a rolled up chicken schnitzel (and was very nice). Both our desserts were enormous and, again, tasted fine but not amazing by any means. But certainly a great place to come for local colour!More
Pod Wawelem is a little difficult to find - it's almost next to the castle, just off Bernardynska near Sw. Gertrudy. But it's worth persevering to find it because I thought this was the best value restaurant I used in Krakow. I rarely give 5...stars but Pod W deserves them all. It was recommended by a Krakow local who told me the portions are large - and he was right. See the photo - my schnitzel was so big I couldn't get everything into the picture until I'd eaten half of it. A huge well-cooked Weiner schnitzel, nice crispy coating but not burnt! - coming with chips, and a side salad of gherkin plus some tangy sauerkraut, plus 0.4 litres of beer and a glass of house white wine came to only 64 zloty (around £12, maybe 13 euros). I had this for a late lunch around 3 pm, and it took me a long time to finish it all - so I didn't need an evening meal after this lunch. My legs were well filled. The atmosphere is very like a traditional Austrian/German/Czech bier keller, so it's not fancy. The food was well cooked and service was swift. Dishes arriving at other tables were similar giant size portions and I'd like to have gone back to sample some of the other dishes on offer. However the schnitzel was such good value I had it again when I did go back. There is a covered terrace outside - just about looking onto the base of Wawel hill. Go if you're hungry!More
Cracking food with big portions. This is very popular with the locals and you can see why . You may have to wait to get a table, but it’s worth it .
Pub is great. Good location and nicely decorated. There were live music too. Food is mixed. I am ok with mine but friends weren't. It also looks like that it's a bit of a lucky dip... for the same dish, some got a better one...than the others.More
The best restaurant we visited whilst we were in Krakow! The food was immense and massive portions, and I mean massive! I think a main meal and 2 beers cost about £15. I would highly recommend this place, ideal for big groups and couples alike.
Me and two friends (all in our 30s) went to this restaurant on recommendation for good quality local polish food. On arrival it was not too busy and we were quickly seated with menus. We then were not approached by any of the staff for...20minutes. This is when my friend got up to request if we could order drinks/food. They told her they would be over in a few minutes. Staff proceeded to actively serve customers around us but ignored us. We asked two more times politely over a 10minute period which the final request was received with a patronising laugh and then stating they would be over I'm 2 minutes before disappearing. Eventually we left, by this point the restaurant was quiet but no one checked in with us or acknowledged us going. We are unsure whether us being tourists impacted their behaviour however very disheartened by the experience as we were so excited to try some local food. It genuinely felt that they had identified us as a group to target and purposely ignore as the staff were not over run by work, being able to serve other customers with no issue. I would avoid coming here as this is not an environment I would encourage anyone to be in, it was a very uncomfortable situation and I hope you try and explore other more welcoming restaurants before having to think about coming here.More
BIG portions - LOW prices. Great service. Good quality food. Will go back again next time in Krakow. Highly reccomended.
Worst service I have experienced . Terrible terrible service . Food is average. Staff are lost . Absolutely useless. Shocking management
Very good food for the price. Staff were wearing traditional clothes and recommended great food and beverage. The ambient was also beautiful
Great food, great service, wonderful location, in the center of the city, next to the old town. 5***
Great service and affordable prices! Beautiful interior, amazing food that was done in no time and over all a wonderful experience. Not to mention the location, right "under" the Wawel castle :)
We went for Saturday night dinner and the joint was jumping. It’s a huge room plus a substantial conservatory-type affair but pretty much every table was taken. A talented trio of musicians played mainly (I assume) Polish classics with gusto. We ate a huge, juicy...knuckle of pork with impeccably thin, crisp crackling; a whole, simple, baked trout with salad and fries; a traditional potato pancake filled with mushrooms, and a side of red cabbage. Everything was delicious. Wine, beer and soft drinks were all fine. The only dessert available was chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream which sounded boring but was good; the ice creams had strong, clear flavour and it was really a sundae with fruit, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Service, though friendly, was infuriatingly slow throughout. Everything in Kraków is a bargain compared with what you’d pay back home but this was exceptional; £61 for 4 of us! We’d willingly have paid slightly more if it enabled them to hire sufficient waiting staff, though!More
