Great local cuisine for cheap prices

Restaurant is focused on local soups, but you can get also a full meals, such as "kulebele" - dumplings filled with meat or "maczanka" - steak in ham with a sauce, all for very cheap price. We enjoed both meals, as well as kompot - glass of picled cherry juice. Much recommended!

Must visit for Polish cuisine

Zurownia is a great find for travelers on a budget looking for authentic Polish cuisine. We were greeted by very friendly staff who went out of their way to help us choose the best dishes for our wishes. The beer is amazing, the food portions are very big and it tastes so good! For tourists the prices are very small, so we left a big tip and I hope more tourists will. We highly recommend this experience to all travelers to Katowice. Loved it!

Good kitchen at affordable price

The place is pretty popular, there was a queue for ca. 10 minutes, when we arrived for lunch (when leaving, the queue was longer…). There is no wonder so many people visit this restaurant. Very nice interior, industrial climate fitting to Silesia, fantastic staff taking care for customers (really great to see young people working in very organized way with smile on faces), affordable prices and last but not least real Silesian cuisine. Food is stuffy, so watch out not to order to much. Soups are delicious, try also Braty (fried patatos with Polish becon, champignons, onion and cheese). We were a bit disappointed with vege Kulebele (Silesian patato dumpling stuffed with vegetables) and with dumplings with duck stiffing - not our taste.

Poor, tasteless food. I hoped that traditional silesian soup -żurek, will be the safe choice at the place called żurownia, but it was more like a water with some addition of bread sourdought. Borowikowa soup (boletus) was served cold. We tried maczanka as well. Generally very low and we would not come back there.

Disappointment

I honestly don't understand positive reviews. The staff barely allowed us to walk in, claiming they can't find seats for 9 persosn while there was a table for 8. Overall service needs improvement. Very limited dish offer and me and my colleague really didn't like the food, nothing special. I wouldn't visit again.

Good food, but long queue!

Very local food but a warning first - the queues can get very long. We came for an early dinner at around 16:00 and ended up waiting for just over an hour before we got our table. Even when we left, there was still a queue that extended the entire hallway. Make sure you have this amount of time available. The internal decor hints towards the mining past of the Katowice, the layout is also rather spacious. You would think they could try to squeeze in more tables but then perhaps the kitchen cannot keep up. Service was fine, staff were polite and despite the queues, did not try to rush anyone. The food was a true highlight. We ordered tow soups as starters - both were tasty but another warning, make sure you are very comfortable with the sour flavour first. For mains, we ordered the shredded potato with meat and large dumplings with meat set. This was a mistake as we underestimated the portion size - in retrospect, perhaps just one large dumpling as opposed to the full set would have sufficed. We ended up taking away however it was not just us, many locals also left with takeaway boxes. Overall, very good value (much cheaper than Krakow for example), just a little away from the main square.

Modern twist to local cuisine

We are from Silesia and well I haven’t expected to be surprised so much by the modern twist the restaurant has to offer in terms of our local dishes. Absolutely amazing food, good service. We will come back for sure!

Tasty and big meal

Friendly English speaking stuff, helping with the menu. Very big portions, very big! We ordered a traditional soup, some hot traditional dish (per person) and pancakes and we couldn’t manage to eat all of it together. I wish every restaurants had such portions :)

We were recommended this little place by our tour guide. He wasn’t wrong to recommend it either. The food was fantastic, hearty and very filling after a long day, it was that good we went back on the last night of our visit to Katowice.

Not to be missed!!

We made a special trip here as I had read the reviews. We were not disappointed!! Ok, we had to wait about 40 minutes for a table but it was late afternoon on a Saturday. The food was outstanding, super tasty, big portions, not expensive & the service was friendly and quick. Do not hesitate, come here and see for yourself!! You will love it. Great atmosphere too.
