The interior and the look of the dishes is really great, however there is 2 improvements that could be done. We ordered Zurek, steak and burger. I have lived in Sokolka for many years and the food scene was, to put it lightly, poor. Karczma changes that, a bold move, karczma advanced from simple bar food to fine dining, we will see if it pays off. The food was good, traditional...with a modern twist, fresh ingredients. I have ordered a rib eye steak medium. The steak arrived rare, very very rare, I overlooked that fact since the meat quality was good, but I have to take one "star" away. This visit was a great surprise, especially given that we got there quite accidentally. The food was so good that we ended up visiting two or three times during our prolonged weekend in the vicinity of Sokolka. I gave this restaurant 5 stars which I...might not give if it were in Warsaw, but, well, it's not. In Warsaw it'd be 41/2 stars. The highlights of our visits were zurek (sour rye soup) which is certainly one of the best I've ever had (and I've had a few), pielemieni (with lamb, which is not eals to find in Poland) and duck dumplings. The last dish could be served by any fancy restaurant anywhere and get great reviews. I was charmed in particular by beets with orange and burnt butter that accompanied the dumplings. A true delicacy. As a pielemieni fan (by the way: pielemieni, for those of you who are not Slavic, are East European dumplings stuffed with raw meat which gets cooked inside the dumpling and are typically served with sour cream) I taste them pretty much everywhere I fund them and these were excellent (on par with the ones served in Starowka restaurant in Hajnowka). We also had duck broth, sagan (a one pot meat dish) and kartacze (meat stuffed potato noodles) - all of which were really good. I were to indicate shortcomings I would probably point at two: first, zurek should be served a bit hotter. Second, pielemieni tasted a bit different every time we visited. But, to be frank, the different tastes ranged from very, very good to absolutely excellent, so I believe this variation in quality is acceptable. So much in terms of food. In terms of service it's ok, as well as decor etc. We had no wine and no desserts so cannot comment on it. The restaurant also surprised us when it came to paying - the check for a family of three was always in the vicinity of PLN 80 (€20) which, given the quality of food, is not much.More

We decided to visit this restaurant during our journey. We have tried to find a tasty regional cuisine, specific for this region of Poland. We have ordered a veal sirloins with pickled beetroot and green asparagus and duck fillet with sweet potatoes puree and baked...young carrots. The dishes was excellent! Everything was fresh and so tasty, in spite of the dish was small on the big plate, it was enough to eat. The service was good and helpful. I truly reccommand this place!More

This place is not a typical place for foreigners - far away from touristic destinations. I was there for business and was invited to this resraurant for lunch. The menu of the day was told to be good but it was pork meat so I...preferred a rib eye steak. The meat was ok and above expectations compared to price - almost 10 euro. I liked the decoration of the restaurant most. Employees dont speak English. Fyi.More
