In Gokana we try to align Japanese culture with unique spirit of Ostrava. In our interior you can find details reflecting local region combined with modern minimalism and clear lines typical for Japanese Feng-Shui style. With us, you can not only enjoy a traditional Japanese cuisine such as sushi, but also experience modern, gourmet cuisine inspired by global trends. In order to serve you really good food, we place great emphasis on the freshness of our ingredients. Most of our fish and seafood is brought to Gokana overnight from fish market located in Hamburg. We really hope you will find the best of our menu and that you will enjoy your luxury dining experience with us. That way Gokana will live up to its name - as ,,gokana" means luxury in Japapanese.

I’ve been looking for a place to have unformal
business lunch, googled a bit and picked Gokana, as I’m very much into high quality japanese food ....
Great choice 🙏🙏🙏
Nice, relaxed place with friendly staff, perdext service and high standard quality food.
Not 100% japanese, but 100% european japanese style from preparation point of view as well as way of serving.
From my side - one of top 5 sushi bars in country 👍👍👍

Gokana was one of the few restaurants open between Christmas and New Year, and as a huge sushi fan, it was on my list of places to go.
I am going to start with the bad - the staff were all sick! Our waiter, who was very charming, was blowing his nose and sniffing, and then placing plates and food on our table. I also observed the chef at the sushi bar blow his nose and "wash" his hands (was a quick rinse) without soap and then wipe his hands dry on his pants. Consequently I have a cold now. I understand that it is probably hard to staff up during the holidays and lots of people are sick; but staff need to be more diligent about their hygiene (e.g.: wear a face mask to not breath on the food / wash hands properly / call in sick).
Now, the food was good, and the restaurant is cool, loved the vibe and the decor. Was lovely to have very good and fresh sushi - it did feel like eating in a nice restaurant in a major city. I did find it a little expensive for what it was though. Despite being sick, the staff were very friendly and helpful, making food recommendations and offering advice on the menu.

We come back after 2year happy and looking forward we know nice sushi place in Ostrava . Unfortunately quality went down and cost up. Still far above Ostrava average but not anymore preferred place to visit. Im sorry to have such experience and full of hope that next time it will go back with quality where it was once Gokana started few years ago.

The restaurant is very nice with great environment, especially the upstairs part is very nice. The staff is extremely friendly and we had good experience trying to figure out what is really gluten free and hence what our son can eat.
The hot Japanese food was great, the salads were perfect and sushi was very good (admittedly I'm not a sushi expert). The restaurant was pretty busy (but not completely full) and the waiting times for sushi (and only for the sushi) were really quite long. But that's the only our complaint.

Excellent, fresh, creative and tasty sushi in the heart of Ostrava. Reasonably priced but the quality rivals sushi from anywhere. Great value for the money with the finest ingredients and good service.

We came back a year later and had much the same experience. Great service. Good food. Nice drinks. Reasonably priced. Came here with our two little boys and our three year old is already a fan of sushi!

We have chosen Gokana as we got a Xmas gift - a Grand Restaurant festival voucher. As I am pescatarian it was one of the few places around to get fish main course, that what suited us... the starter was a Wagyu carpaccio and as I couldn’t have it we called the restaurant few times before to book the table and ask if it’s possible to change one of the starter for a non-meat option. We were insured 3 times, with 3 different people that it won’t be a problem, a quote ‘we love vegetarians here’ was even said by one of the waitresses of the phone. When we arrived I have been informed by the server - not in the nicest way, that changing the starter is not possible as it’s pre-paid and they need to serve it anyway. I needed to ask if at least I can order from a la carte menu as I don’t eat meat and if so, I will pay for extra starter for myself. I have ordered the sea weed salad with sesame, which was delicious, nevertheless the salad arrived some time after we have been served two wagyu carpaccio, one served for my husband and one served straight under my nose even if they knew I am a pescatarian. I found it unprofessional and little offensive. I understand the rules of taking part in food festival but I also require a high standard restaurant to be flexible and delicate in such situations, especially when it was confirmed on the phone before. Over all, I will probably not come back. Sushi was great, must say, interior very modern and spot on, but the service was what puts us off. Later on there was a group of foreigners next to our table, we have seen the way they have been served and how the waiters ignored them most of the time, then we heard loud complains about service. We don’t need to see or hear more.

Modern styled Japanese Restaurant with a twist. We had excellent carpaccio as starters whixh isnt really Japanese ;-) followed by some steamed dumplings in the typical Cantonese baskets with a scallion sauce sprinkled with hot pepper. After that sushi galore. I especially enjoyed the rolls with the cooked salmon inside with the fried outside. All accompanied with Czech beer and Korean soju. Thats globalization at its best 😉

We wanna say thank you for your great review. About our carpaccio, we realized that it's not really Japanese traditional food but we do use Japanese Wagyu beef filet steak as an ingredient , so we can tell there is sort of Japanese kitchen style. Anyway I would like to say thank you again and all Gokana member staff hope that we gonna see you in our restaurant very soon.

Many of stars is Gokana getting just for sushi last time i got not sushi menu which turned me to 5 stars, good work with grill, for me just less salmon more funny ingred. anyhow good to be back

Just a step short of excellent. Great ambiance and service. Food taste just a tiny step short of very good. Reasonably priced. Maybe my taste buds are spoiled by fresh fish/seafood fresh out of the sea...

My GF took me here to try out sushi there and it was spot on! Neat and cozy place, great food, had great service there too, our waitress did great job, look for a cute blond named Veronika, this place is worth visiting.
