About
In 2015 we opened a fully refurbished family restaurant, one of the oldest restaurants in Prague, which still holds it original name – U Mecenase, aka The Maecenas. Come and take a seat under the 16th century vaults. Jan Mydlar, the most famous executioner of Prague, used to sit here in the times of Rudolph II; the wall still bears his signature inscribed in 1626. The original 13th century Lesser Town fortification wall is still visible in the gothic cellars below the restaurant. A non-smoking restaurant with 200 seats in 4 halls, each of them with its specific atmosphere. A smaller private dining room with 25 seats is styled as an Austro-Hungarian imperial salon. Everybody finds their favourite

I have eaten here three times this week as I have enjoyed the quality and quantity of food offered and have no wish to be disappointed elsewhere. I have tried various local dishes. The meat has always been tender and plentiful and the accompaniments delicious....The staff are attentive and even when they were clearly busy made time and space for me to have a good table for my use as a single traveller. All to often a single traveller gets hived off into a dark corner but here I have been given the same consideration as others. When it is clearly busy things can take a little time to arrive but that is because it is cooked to order. The beer was great. A very pleasant experience well worth the extra few steps up the hill.More

We first stumbled across this restaurant when walking to the castle. There are several cafes/restaurants along the street but this one caught our eye. We had the beer and beef goulash and the roast duck and both were wonderful, we also had the beer of...the month, which was very nice and refreshing. All of the staff are wonderful and polite and as we were sat outside, the views were also lovely.More

One of our favorite meals on our trip. Delicious, traditional food with great service at a reasonable price. Family friendly with a location that was similarly exceptional. We dined twice during our trip and would highly recommend this excellent dining experience.

Super good - this was a perfect spot for a casual Czech cuisine dinner! The food was delicious - fresh, tasty and plentiful. The rustic sausages appetiser and bean and ham soup of the day were mouth-wateringly good! The pork knuckle shared by my husband...and daughter was giant, super tender and super tasty! My son had the goulash which also did not disappoint. Add a couple of beers for the grown ups and no one had room for desert. Service was super kind and efficient - and actually friendliest we experienced in Prague.More

Stayed in Mala Strana for four nights and this was our favourite restraunt. Great service and food and nice looking restraunt near Charles bridge. Great menu, loads to chose from and the drink is good. Sausage for starters and steak for mains, both delicious. Family...had pork schnitzel and other bits all good.More

We were so impressed with dinner the first night, we went back again 3 days later. Both nights they were full and only one waitress with one helper, yet the service was smooth and efficient. But go for the food. Grilled duck breast with bread...dumplings was as good as it gets, and my wife had a beautiful and tasty salad with grilled chicken. Good prices. Glad I tried the Czech Frankovka red wine, it was good.More

We love this restaurant! We had a 6 day trip and we visited this place twice. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside and out, it has a lovely Czech vibe. We had a lovely table in the front part of the restaurant with the murals...on the walls. They were very busy and still managed to be attentive, welcoming and friendly. My partner asked for a recommendation and they gave a few, explaining why they would be a good choice and what types of flavours and portion size. The food was delicious 10/10, I had the duck and my partner had the pork knuckle and both were amazing! Would recommend to everyone.More

We only stopped for a drink, two beers and a jug of iced water with lemon and lime, lovely and refreshing. Staff were really friendly and they had blankets on the back of the chairs as it was a bit chilly. We did not have...food but the other customers were eating and it looked really good. Went into the restaurant via the wash room and it was really busy and the kitchen area and the whole place was spotlessly clean.More
