Great food and service! I tried slow cooked "jehněčí koleno" with mashed potatoes and spinach. "House" unpasteurized beer was also good

I dropped in to the restaurant on my business travels home to Germany coming from the far east of the Czech Republic. Personal is speaking good English, menu is also available in English. As a beverage I had a house-made cherry Lemonade which was not...too sweet and tasted extraordinary. As main course I took road with a delicious sauce and some kind of gnocchi (?). The sauce was a “poem” - I definitely can recommend that dish! Before I left I then had an Espresso and a reeeeeally good cheesecake - would choose everything in the same every time again. You reach the restaurant in 8 minutes away from the highway which makes it a worthy stopover that has to be chosen over any “quick-food” places there are.More

We came across this restaurant by accident. We were surprised by superb quality of the food, cook must be an artist. We ate svickova, soup and dessert. All home made, well done, we will come again. And service was very attentive as well.

We went to the "Kastrol" for a St Martin's day dinner. Not in the main tourist areas, this restaurant is in a residential area of Prague. The restaurant has a lovely pub atmosphere and the service was really excellent. The waitress was kind, helpful and...positive. We started with the goose "kaldon" - a soup. It was really fantastic. The broth was thick and rich - and there was a good amount of goose! For the main course, I had the pancakes stuffed with goose, whereas my partner had a leg of goose with cabbage. Both were good, but the portions were too large. For dessert I had the pistacchio creme brulée which, although it looked fantastic, it lacked any taste of pistacchio. Wine by the glass was surprising good. Although a bit far out of our neck of the woods, it is a place I would like to revisit to taste the regular menu!More

The food is of high standard and home-made. We chose from the daily menu Tagliatelle with mushroom , roast pork loin with cream sauce, tasty but the pasta a bit over cooked, boar ragu with fried gnocchi flawless. Interior cozy and bright. One objection is...for a little bit pushy service.More

We have been visiting this restaurant for 5 years with mixed results. Sometime its amazing food poor service, ok food great service but last visit was only ok food and terrible service. Our friends came over from US and we were excited to share all...our favorite restaurants with them but Kastrol was a real embarrassment. The duck was dry, over cooked, and the steak was not tender. To top it off the waiter refused to split our bill into 2 checks, one for each couple. We have been all over Europe and never had a waiter refuse that request - not sure we will ever come back.More

First time with a group of 15 colleagues sitting inside at a big wooden table, second time with my girlfriend sitting outside in the garden, both visits were great in terms of culinary experience and home-like atmosphere:) Staff were stressed and impolite on our first...(group) visit, on the second (couple) visit, purely female service was a little hesitant but kind in all ways! On both occasions, the restaurant was not too busy. All in all, the meals were excellent, which is something you should definitely try even though they will be served by a bit nervous personnel..:)More

You do not reinvent the wheel with local cuisine, ingradients are always the same. Here they have revisited them making the experience somehow good. Food is prepared well and served in the Czech classic style, you don’t expect a smile and you don’t get it....The place is quite nice, in the middle of other homes somehow in the middle of nowhere in prague 6, not that easy to reach. Quite nice terrace outside, very lively. prices from reasonable to med-high, considering the place.More

Nice servers, wonderful cuisine! I would recommend the duck, it was simply perfect. Although the seats were not that comfortable, the place is cozy!

I live very near this place and love coming there, it is a family friendly restaurant and the staff has always been really nice to us. The price of the food is really affordable compared to other restaurants and the ingredients are fresh and well-prepared....My partner is Czech and says their home-made beer is his favorite!More

Before our trip to Europe, we read several restaurant recommendations by locals and this one got a very good review. We showed up and the owners seemed surprised to see Chinese customers (probably we are the first there haha). The restaurant is very cozy and...service is excellent. We ordered two soups for starters. For entrees, we ordered the pork ribs and confit duck at first but the rib was sold out and the owner highly recommended the national dish of Czech. This dish is normally cooked with beef but at Kastrol they cooked with deer meat. One of the owner even hunted this very deer himself! One thing to be careful about is that the portion is enormous. I couldn't finish my dish even though it's terrific. As for dessert, they recommended the white chocolate cheese cake and ravioli. We ordered one ravioli to share because we are too full. They also give us a big slice of traditional Czech pastry called Buchta, which is also good. If you are a fun of wine, try their local spirit. The turns out to be 815 CZK, which is extremely cheap considering the quality of food. The owners and staffs here are very very friendly and we would come again if we visit Prague.More
