We’ve just had a six night stay at the Hotel Occidental and this bar restaurant is just a few hundred metres away. We had a walk down as the reviews were good and we weren’t disappointed. We ended up dining there three times. The food was great and so was the beer as well as the staff. Would thoroughly recommend.

We were staying up the street and tired from a busy day, and not really hungry so we ventured out for a beer and light bite. The lady at the table next to me had the steak and I was sold. One of the best I've had...anywhere.
Husband pronounced the burger to be Good..high praise indeed.
A little noisy as it's a pub too, but worth the trip out from old town if you're there.

We went two times here in our trip to Prague. We liked so much the food and the prices, so we went the next day as well. Try their ribs! But first of all, you should order a pilsner!

Off the beaten path but right by our airbnb, this little pub has great Czech food, friendly staff, and CHEAP beer (I recommend the goulash with beef and dumplings and a kozel). If you end up in the area I highly suggest it. Plus if you're interested in seeing some of the taller Prague buildings they are right around here.

Looked in as traveling alone for business, friendly greeting my from staff and good service. The pork neck and mustard was delicious and cooked perfectly, and the pilsner beer was welcome! Good experience with nice outside area.

It may not have the looks but it sure has the genuine charm o a czech HOSPODA. Brilliant traditional food at a fair price and friendly staff.

Quite interesting place... Doesn't look like much at first sight, quite the contrary...
But they have some of the best chicken wings I had in the last couple of years...
Menu is in English too, and the staff speaks English.

They have draft Kofola what is great, goulash soup was also without the problem but than we chose the Beef cheeks in red wine, which cost about 170 CZK what i believe is not so cheap in this part of city. I was so happy for this options until I got it. Meat wasn't so good but the main fail in whole dish was they potato-(i believe)celery puree, which was made probably from the very old potatoes, not vary good prepard, was definitely like a glue (not only consistency but also the taste). Absolutely uneatable so we asked staff that we really dont want to pay for this, from the kitchen we got a notice that the food is absolutly without a problem so we said that its ok but we would like to have a discount when we realized we ate like "2 spoons" from our 2 plates - and they arrogantly said - NO WAY, the food is without a problem and we need to pay a full price. We had another guy with us (cook), he said that there is a problem with puree but they was like, it's only our problem we do not like it ... so, I think this restaurant is still alive only because there is no so many restaurants in the nearby, but for me, I will never go there again. This is definitely my first experience like this when restaurant did not want to solve the problem. Avoid this place

I had a Czech goulash with dumplings. It was great, although not the cheapest. I sat in the garden outside the restaurant, it's not very quiet or picturesque but still okay. The service was very good.

Ate here as recommended by hotel round corner. Lovely beef cheeks and cheap beer. Brought 35 people back the second night and they handled it amazing. We pre-ordered to make it easier for them and we took over the whole outside section which is open sided gazebo roofed and was brilliant.

I went on a Sat afternoon around 1pm before heading off to the airport so the place was a bit empty. Service was excellent as a result but based on the friendliness of the waiter and waitress service is probably pretty good anytime. The place has a bar area with dining and a covered (tented area) with family style tables, I sat in the tented area. Food was excellent I had an appetizer smoked salmon with asparagus and puree and it was excellent. I followed that with the pork knee which was also excellent and they de-bone it is you dont have to deal with the bone. Yes I also had Pilsner beer since you need to wash the pork down with something.

This restaurant is only 290 meters from my hotel and had only one review...IT WAS IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE.
I called and asked if I could speak in English, they hung up. I walked there and pulled and turned their door handle and it was locked but I could hear people inside. I walked all the way around the block and found a door to the kitchen. I asked the bewildered chef if this was Mattes and he said No! Went back around to front door only to find that the door was a push door...duh. I shall not be deterred from eating at MATTES.
I asked the waitress to bring me three different entrees...in smaller portions and they obliged. When it came...I was in heaven. Beef goulash, homemade bread and bacon dumplings with cabbage, and fried Eidam cheese with fries. WOW. Delicious. After dinner, the waiter said I MUST also have a traditional peppery CZECH SCHNAPPS....my entire meal with two large ales...about $18. I love Mattes.
